Has Anyone Seen My Creative?
Most days I am chomping at the bit to work on a new post, or I even have to write down ideas for posts that pop into my head. It's like I can't write them fast enough. Except today. Today my brain has basically said "f*&% you".
I had to go sit in a CPR refresher course that took up my entire day...a fresher course! The entire time I'm sitting there, all I can think about is writing a new post. I'm done with school until next week, so I'm excited to dedicate the next 3 days towards the site and posts and promotional stuff. But as soon as I got home...it's like I put down my creative and left it on a shelf at the store or something!
I just sat there...looking at the blank "New Post" screen with nothing...nothing! I decided I would let myself rest a bit, maybe work on some social media and do some research for some more in depth posts, maybe even reach out to a few companies (I haven't heard back from the one company that emailed me the partnership offer...so I'm a little nervous about that. I figure I'd give it a week and send a "hello?" email).
Nope! Had no new ideas for even social media posts! It's like my brain just took the rest of the day off! So now...here I am...trying to use my brain and find my creative....and it sucks. I've given up now because I know if I force a post it won't be my best work and you can always tell if a person is passionate about their post or not...so I'll just work on it tomorrow. But it still sucks I lost an entire evening for a chance to do some work. I guess some days your brain and creative just need a break. (Yes..I know it's supposed to be "Where is my creativity" but that's part of the joke with my brain being taking a day off).

Mel is right Liz ... thankfully your brain knows best. You've been pushing yourself so ... just reeeeelaaax.
For me, writing ideas happen when I'm busy doing other things. Seems the busier I am the more creative I become ... go figure. Then there are other days ... sometimes WEEKS that I just 'don't got it' ... so, I'm forced to take a break.
That's when you can do other things ... housework, yard work, laundry, etc. ... those sort of chores. That way you won't feel like you're wasting time. :-))

It's the same with me! It seems as though every time I'm doing school work an idea pops in my head! Ah! I did take a break, though :) From school, from website, from everything! I took my dog out on a long hike and laid in the sun by a river. It's exactly what I needed. But good to know someone as experienced as you just "dont got it" sometimes, haha!

Liz, first of all, your website is great. Anyone would think you are a professional web designer. Discipline is good for work, however, our creative side hates discipline. In Tai Chi, we use the word play instead of practice. Try playing on your site and see if it nets you a bit more creativity.
Thank you so much, that compliment means a lot! I ended up taking a break, but I love the idea of word play! In English I've practiced "free writing" and I just write for 10 minutes non-stop on anything that pops in my head--I'm not sure why I didn't think of doing this for the website! Thank you!
