Alt Text 250 images to update

Hello wonderful WA family, I hope this finds you well?

I have got a mammoth task on my hands. I didn't really understand what to write in the Alt text box so I didn't write anything at all. Now I'm going through all of the posts and updating the alt text in each picture. The majority of posts have 3 or 4 images so a lot to do. This is one reason I have left it until now to do. Being off for 2 weeks will give me plenty of time to complete the task.

With the new site, I have made sure to do it from the beginning. A quick question, I'm assuming by adding the alt text to the images will change the rank of the posts, is that correct?

Think of me on Christmas day doing this task, once everybody has gone home :-)

Making mistakes is okay as long as you correct and learn from them.

Going to leave you with this quote :

A failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying.

Have a very enjoyable weekend.

Stay Safe.

Lisa :-)

Yep a big job that will definitely improve your ranking!

Can I make a suggestion!

When I produce an article/post and publish it, I set a review date for me to go back over it. At the moment this is usually 3 months ahead but it can be sooner or longer depending upon the content.

When I review the article, I take the opportunity of having a fresh set of eyes and check everything! Because I know that I will constantly review my posts at a later date, it makes me feel better about getting a non-perfect post published. i.e. get it out there to start ranking as long its decent enough.

When doing the review, you can take the opportunity of updating images (or alt texts), adding more internal links to newer posts etc, checking any affiliate links are still valid and ensure that the article is still relevant.

Good luck with your task ahead!

Good idea, thank you very much for sharing

Hi Lisa,

WOW, how unfortunate for you, I hope this daunting task does not reach over into Christmas day for you.

Obliviously, you missed Jayā€™s Friday Night Live training on alt text for images, and SEO tweaks:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/classes/wordpress-images-video-media-management

Jay goes into details as to why the alt text is very important for SEO and how by just filling in the alt text for all images can greatly increase your blog's SERP and your websiteā€™s overall ranking within the search engines.

Also inserting internal links on images is another great SEO practice if done with white hat (search engine acceptable) procedures! The links destination most align somehow with the image for this to help your SEO

Just remember that it is always best to do today what you donā€™t want to have to do tomorrow,

Calvin

Thanks Calvin. Jays trainings are 1am my time, so no I donā€™t stay up and see them often.

Hi Lisa,

I don't normally watch Jay's training live too much anymore: I prefer watching the recording when released normally within 24 hours of the actually class.

Same great benefit, same knowledge being conveyed. But this way if and when he discusses something and I just didn't grasp it completely.

I can rewatch that section over and over again until I fully understand what he is talking about. To me, this is a great time saver and is valuable to my continued learning cycle here on the WA platform.

Have a great day,

Calvin

Hi Calvin,
I do watch the replays when I get time and yes itā€™s good that we can keep going back over them.
Have a great day,
Lisa.

I am facing both Alt text and image size too small in September but completed updating in November. Yours is only the Alt text should be easier.
Our images are also our keywords to bring traffic to our website. It is worth to make it right.
Make sure your text is explaining your image correctly and match your content.

Thank you very much my friend, I will make sure šŸ„³

Early on, I went through the same thing...didn't know what to write in those alt text boxes. Now it's standard procedure to write the necessary text in my images when I first put them in my Social Media library and adding alt text to the post as part of the process of publishing it. It's amazing what we forget that we've learned.

I will get it done and on new posts Iā€™m making sure to do it. šŸ„³

I didn't know about this at first either, and still I think I have a bit too learn but definitely it's totally worth doing image SEO. Are you using Canva to create images as well? I started a bit late using this but don't know what I ever did without it.

Hi, no I'm just using the stock photos in the site content platform.
I still have a bit to learn as well.
Thanks for stopping by :-)
