I found a couple of discussions around this topic but not a lot... So I'd like to raise this question up again: is it necessary to use your real identity, or is it enough to us

I don't understand why you would not want to use your real name or why you don't want your family and your friends to realize your association with it ?
Are you spamming or even worse, are you embarrassed about your website and all of the work that you may or may not have put into it ?
I think that we should be somewhat proud of our accomplishments and hoping for the support that those that are closest to us can offer.

Gary

Hi Gary, no, I'm not planning to spam anyone :) And of course my family knows what I'm doing :) I just feel I have more freedom to write blogs if I have a different online persona. You see as a yoga teacher I'm kind of expected to have certain kind of views and opinions by default, and to have more freedom to write about any topics I may not want to reveal that I'm a yoga teacher in my real life. At the moment I'm not planning to do this for money but for fun and personal development :)

Hello Lizzu
I apologize if it seems like I jumped on you. I obviously didn't understand where you were coming from and now that you have explained why, it makes perfect sense. It's unfortunate though, that we sometimes have to hide ourselves because we are expected to uphold a certain image. Sometimes society sucks
I have an alias that I use and I also have email accounts that are linked to that alias. I do however ùse my rèal name and my true identity when I'm on here at WA blogging. My alias was originally put in place for a fun kinda' purpose.
Best of Luck Lizzu and have a Nice Week !!

Gary

Thanks Gary! :) I fully understand your first comment, no worries. As I didn't explain my reasons it may have appeared odd first... Yes you are very right, it's unfortunate that we can't always express our opinions or views with our real name... It's kind of funny that for example a yoga teacher couldn't discuss fast and expensive cars without getting some raised eyebrows ;) So that's why I feel I want to keep my freedom at least for the time being. Here at WA I use my real identity of course.
Have a great week Gary! :)

Hi - Yes, I use a "persona." I'm building a brand, under one "corporation," (that is not incorporated as yet.) Although, yes, I do identify myself on my "About Me" page, I am building a "brand" on purpose under a "Memorable name." Yes, it does separate your current job, or whatever, from your new blog persona. And, yes, it makes thing easier for those who want to keep "both" their identities.

I initially began my blog as an active Real Estate Broker and Insurance Rep., so, yes, it "could" become quite confusing to people, but I was also looking ahead. Many blogs that have sold, at some point in the future, are more easily sold using any other name. That's not to say that it's impossible to take over a blog and change it's name, but it takes more of a marketing effort, redirects, etc.

As for emails, etc., yes, Google wants to know the "real" you, and this is one of my little problems with WA regarding the whole DNS change. If we were allowed to change only the A zone to their IP address, we would be able to keep our "whatever@yourdomain.com" email address with our Registrar and then modify it to a "catch-all" account. I have a few "catch-all" email names.

Alternatively, you could also create a Google email address for your persona which I have also done. Google now realizes that many people use "personas" and that's fine as long as it's now under "one" account. When it wasn't fine with Google, I had to create many. I have a MsMoneyHoneyUSA gmail account... In fact, I believe I have three total... but they all identify me and my "main" email as the owner.

So, for Google, Twitter, Fb, and YouTube purposes, you can create your persona email from either a catch all account or use another gmail account, but using your "real name, and "main" email as the recovery email. These changes were implemented for security reasons. There are no more "anonymous" accounts... So, for instance, if I were some whacko, and wanted to threaten people... I'd get a knock on the door.. no wait, the SS and FBI doesn't knock... ok, nevermind, ...you get my point...

Seeing that I did mine a long while ago, I think your best bet would be to speak with a Google rep. I know things have changed since I set mine up, but, the bottom line is yes, you can do that.

Thank you so much for your thorough and kind answer! This is exactly what I was wondering! I don't need to stay anonymous, I just want to create a "brand name" that is different from my real life persona. Your answer clarifies so many things, thank you!!! :)

You're welcome... Good Luck with your new persona!

create a google site just for business name you can --- it is attached to your real identity but separate

Thanks for your reply, I was thinking about this, but is it of any use if I don't want to invite any friends/followers from my real life? Is it so important to give google your real identity?

Hiya!

We are warned not to use any duplicate (copied) content on our websites, but what about duplicate pictures?

This may seem like a really silly question, but I

"Google through their head of search spam, Matt Cutts, responded to that question that using stock photos (or even duplicating photos repeatedly on the same site) does not impact your search engine ranking, negatively or positively.

While this question was put in the context of stock photos, the implications for photographers and artists clearly go beyond that. For example, if an infringer copies and posts a copy of a photo on their site, it doesn’t hurt the ranking of the original photographer and their site."

Brilliant Cristina, thank you so much for the answer!! :)
