YouTube Monetization - Did I miss out on Earnings by not hooking up my Google Adsense account?

Last week right before I headed out of town I checked my YouTube channel and really started to take a look at it.

Last year on July 25th I had opted in to start Monetizing the videos by allowing the ads on the videos.

Every time I would log in I'd look at the Analytics and notice that my Total Estimated Earnings always sat at $0 but I just couldn't believe that after 27,000 views on one of my videos alone no one clicked on a single ad so I started investigating.

What I found is that I was suppose to hook up my Google Adsense account to my YouTube channel so I could see what my Estimated Earning would be. So I did this last Wed. and I'm now able to see my Estimated Earnings BUT...

One thing I had NEVER looked at was the Ad Performance button because I just figured since there was no estimated earnings then nobody was clicking so why bother. (I now know why this was so foolish, take a look at the screen shot below)

This is an All Time view of the Ad Performance.

So now my question is...Did I loose out on this money because I didn't have my Google Adsense Account hooked up?

I do know that the Playback based Gross Revenue is not what I would be making. This is just what the advertisers paid and then of course YouTube takes their cut of I think 45%

Since adding the Google Adsense to my YouTube channel I've already made over $4 and it hasn't even been a week. So I'm super excited about that but really concerned that I lost out on the money that was made prior to hooking up the accounts.

Any ideas on how this all works? Is there something else I need to do to get this pay out?

Thanks so much for any and all help!!!

Am so sorry to see you lost the income. Know exactly how you feel.

Amazing how coincidence happens. Just finished reading everywhere, when I saw your blog.

Am off to Google Academy. Google started the course on the 11th. I think a "G+ link training program" with GA, Adsense and YouTube is needed, and maybe best in that order. Then via Universal GA one can manage all three from one account for all your sites, including YouTube Analytics.

Hope to help again, when you ask. That's what WAers do. Right?^_~

Lynn,
I've heard of the Google Academy before. This is free correct? Is it to late to join you?
I think I need this course also. I have waaaaay to many accounts and I've never fully understood how all these apps and such work with Google.

Thank you so much for all the help. You confirmed everything I have been reading. It really bites but it's ok.
That's what it's all about right? Living and learning and not making that mistake again. ;)

Hopefully I can join you on this journey of learning all about Google.

Thanks again,
~ Audrey

Yes Audrey, it is free. The certificate is $50. I just want to go through the training. Started the 11th continuing to the 27th. There is a pre-test so was advised to do Fundamentals first, then follow with the beginner and advanced stuff.

What is great is that you can do it in your own time and if you miss the time period to finish, post-test and earn the certificate - we can find the videos in YouTube.

Everyday I learn something new to add or figure out why. Mistakes bite but the key is to find out how not to do them again.

I do want to join you, too! Maybe PM one another for questions or discussions.

Maybe plan to do the training module together? IDK got enough on my plate, but sure want to make sure no one has to take the bite.

Figure the WA programmer and IT advanced members will get it done before we finish. It happens to me all the time. Am happy they do, because when I read their training it reaffirms what I already know.

Had never imagined the income possible. The WA has made a difference in my life, am sure in yours too. Hope to see you again soon. ^_~

P.S. How did your high school presentation about the WA go?

Unfortunately I have not done the presentation yet. It's been put on hold however, it prompted me to write an ebook about the top 5 Legitimate ways young woman can make money online. When it's time to do the presentation I'll be ready. ;)

The Google Academy, is that the Analytics course that you are talking about? I've googled it and that is the only course that comes up starting March 11th.

Are you able to send me a link to the course. I'll join you for sure.

If you opted into monetization, this is done without linking. You just don't get the readout until you hook up.

When you are ready to, there are two ways - when you have one or you need to get approval.

The first 4 steps are the same - Opt in, go to Adsense page, select the option to choose the Google Account you want to use, enter your Google account password, accept - then you are redirected back to Youtube. This is the same way to follow to update.

To get approval for Adsense, after the 4 steps you confirm and add your billing information, then you are redirected. (Just incase none here in comments haven't gained approval)

You are supposed to get update information from Adsense after.

Think you can also transfer the $ into your Google wallet.

Hope this helps. ^_~.

Lynn,
If I've already done all 4 steps, have been approved and am getting the update information from Adsense does this mean that it will go back in time from the very beginning and pay me for the monetization they I did back in July of last year?

As you can see in the image from April through March 8th I had monetized the channel but never connected my Google Adsense account.

Also, where in my Google Adsense account do I go to see what revenue I've earned from YouTube? Because when I login to my Google Adsense account and go to Performance Account I don't see YouTube earnings in there at all.

Thank you for any help you can give. I'm trying to put all these puzzle pieces together.

Audrey love,
You may be instrumental in getting me to do my first training. OMG.

Yes, if you enabled monetization when you first opened your YouTube account. Then an application to create a new Adsense account should have been done. Once approved you link the account with your You Tube account. After a month and more than $100 earned you should be paid.

With that said, it is unlikely you will be paid from last year. Your earnings from April through March will not be paid until you link the accounts.

Upon approval of your Adsense application you should have accessed your Host account on the Home tab of your Adsense account. If you have a non-host website you need to submit another application for your URL, only if you want to monetize our website too. If you don't see the Host account you need to access and generate an Adsense ad code for your non-host site.

Performance reports do not include your YouTube earnings. You need to log in to your Adsense account, select payments on the left sidebar. Look for earnings for YouTube for each month.

To get your financial details you need to go to YouTube Analytics.

Back to the Home tab, from there you get an overview to see your earnings to date, unpaid, and most recent payment. Make sure you review your scorecard and performance to make changes to your settings, page and content. Make sure you save your reports from the Home tab. A request for unpaid earnings without an attached report will be denied.

Suggest you link your Adsense and Google Analytics then you can access everything from your Adsense Home tab.

You'd think Google would make it simple like the WA has, eh? LOL.

Hang in there. Hope I didn't confuse you. But learned the particulars the hard way. Which I hope you have not. ^_~

All I can say is congratulations on your earnings Audrey! I know nothing about YouTube other than watching the videos, LOL! Lydia.

Thank you so much Lydia. Of course I'm kinda sick to my stomach because I found out the answer to my question.
In order to get that money I had to have my Google Adsense Account set up this whole time. That's means I missed out on all that revenue. :(

You live and learn and help others not make the same mistake I did. :)

~ Audrey

Ouch! I can just imagine how upset you are Audrey! At least you caught it before it became thousands! Good luck for the future. Lydia.

I don´t know anything about Youtube and videos for earning but I´m sure someone here knows how it works :)

I sure hope so Thomas. :) How are things going?

~ Audrey

For the moment I fell good about my sell of the Bacc system but I also want to make videos to earn Money, do you happen to know how it works and how you can earn from it ?
Best regards
Thomas

Hey Thomas,
After finding my answer and realizing that not to many know about YouTube Optimization, I'm diving in and trying to learn everything I can about so I can make a training.
I did lose all that money so I'm going to make sure that others don't do the same mistake I've done.
As soon as I get the training up I'll be sure to let you know.

~Audrey

That´s great Audrey ;)

Audrey, I'm hopin' that you'll do a step by step training on this. I've been toying with this idea also and would really appreciate the detailed training that you would do. Sure hope that you're thinking about it!

Randy,
Yeppers, that's exactly what I plan on doing. As a matter of fact with this ooopsy I'm thinking about a new Category on my site. Avoid these Mistakes or something like that. Lord knows I've made plenty of them along the way. LOL
As soon as I have it up I'll let you know as well.
Hope things are going well.
~ Audrey

Thanks Audrey... looking forward to your training... it's gonna be awesome!
