Protect your work!
Good morning everyone!
I'd like to share some info that may be new to people that are, like me, new to Wealthy Affiliate and website building, design, and marketing. Yesterday I learned ALOT even tho I did not do ANY of the lessons in the progressive Certification Training! I guess I'll call this lesson for me:
Site Management
Up to now I've been following the lesson plans as they are laid out and was really pretty happy with the work I had gotten done to that point. So I submitted a request to get my sight Feedback (part of the lesson) and I also posted a request in a comments section asking for some feedback. I received the feedback that my site did not have the ability to leave Comments. So I set about trying to figure that out and ended up installing a Plugin as a way to allow visitors to leave comments. This is when the trouble began... It looked great on my site so I updated and logged out for a bit. Shortly after when I checked back in with my site I saw this where my beautiful, precious work of art had been:
Error message : No WordPress Website Installed
Instant sickening fear in the pit of my stomach!
So I contacted Site Support and they set about working to resolve the issue.
Unfortunately they were unable to recover my site to it's most recent condition after I had moved it to it's .com domain and I am left with rebuilding the siterubix work.
Some awareness for those interested:
- Search Backup in the WA training and educate yourself sooner rather than later on the different Backup options available. I believe this training comes a bit further along than where I happen to be right now.
- Always Backup prior to installing any plugins!!!
- Backup regularly and also whenever you have made significant changes to your site.
- Here is a valuable link to know that will let you look at your site in Google cache that may be able to give you a view of your site: (Thank you Marketeer1 for this info!)

Here are some tips from readers:
"A simple FTP backup will go a long way in protecting all those precious hours of work we put into our websites."
"open a test website for checking plugins before you install them. Using malicious scripts can wreck your website, open a test site"
Training by Marion: "How to Backup your website with Filezilla via FTP"
(FTP is NOT compatible with SiteRubix)
If anyone has more to add please do share!
I hope this is helpful for those of you that are new to this like I am,
Have a great day!
Lissa
