Site Comment Turned down from way back!
I just received a notification that my site comment was turned down.
The reason:
'Hi very sorry but I need to disapprove this comment because it isn't quite what I am looking for in this regard.'
No elaboration on what they are looking for.
Considering I cannot recall the last time I even wrote a site comment, this seems rather peculiar.
This means the person has not bothered to respond to their comments for months?
Is there a way to query this? To ask why, after all this time?
I just checked comments I have made and only 3 have been refused and all were from 2019.
I am shocked that there is not a time limit on refusing comments.
After a very busy and difficult year I have not even managed to get on this site very often.
Has this happened to you, old comments refused?
What do you think?
Great! Now have discovered there are set categories with no place for your own to be added. Is anything else restricted?

I usually wait for approving and replying with site comments for a few days, not months or years. When the site comment is not what am looking for usually edit or approve and just go directly to my website and delete the comment.
Thank you Jannette. I wouldn't expect every comment to be approved, especially when first learning.
I was surprised that it was from so long ago. I was interested to see whether it happened to anyone else.
When you're offering a comment for someone, they're in control of when they want those comments to be published. It's not for us to control at all. In this case if it was years since you last used the comments platform then more than likely it could be that circumstances had taken this member away from WA, and now they've returned. It's not always pure neglect.
Either way, it's really nothing to worry about. Most of the time if you want to leave a comment that will almost always be approved, just comment from the perspective of someone in that target audience who would have made a google search to find that article. Then choose a single point from the article and maybe ask a question from that perspective. :)
The most common comments that get rejected are the ones that start off with "well I've never heard of this before or even had much interest in this..." because the commenter immediately takes themselves out of the target audience's that the author is lookin for.
I hadn't thought of that possibility, thank you Eric.
I wondered if this was something others had had occur.
Hi Linda! Glad to see you here, and keep looking around, Im sure you'll see the new changes that came with the last WA update... and the OTHER category may just be the next best thing due to no longer being able to add your own categories..
Hope you are doing well, happy holidays!
Rudy
Hi Rudy, how are you doing? Real life keeps interfering with online life, lol.
I am doing well thank you.
Hope you had an amazing Christmas and New Year and that your business is going from strength to strength.
Must take the time to look around and catch up on the changes, thank you.
I experimented with the Site Comments shortly after coming. I noticed many of them took weeks for approval or in the one case, disapproval. I'm guessing that there is no time limit for the person requesting a comment to actually check for them and approve/disapprove. Probably (I'm guessing) because it's assumed since they want the comment they would likely be timely in it.
You can check in your dashboard under the "section comments offered" to see any comments that are still waiting to be accepted or rejected.
As for the rejection itself, I noticed in my own rejection comment it was quite detailed in why my comment sucked, basically stating that anyone who would have left a comment would have been an expert in the tech being discussed (it was on surround sound). That person waited a little over a week I believe to look at my comment as I had forgotten about it.
So I learned from that experience and have made a note to never offer a comment for that person regardless of site they need a comment on if I decide to ever do any more comments. I would advise perhaps you to also do the same, as well as adding any others you might still be waiting for them to accept/reject onto that same list.
My condolences on a difficult year. I do hope you find the new year to be smoother.
Regards,
Jason
Thank you for responding Jason, much appreciated.
Yes I did check the comments section. None waiting and only rejections from 2019.
I stopped even checking out site comments because of scam type comments on posts that were just a mix of letters.
Also blog posts that were a few lines long or just pictures did not leave much in the way of ideas for commenting.
It was just personal family stuff but thank you.

That does sound strange. It has to be a fluke coming about from the major update. Also, what Eric said below makes sense, someone cleaning house-- and not to worry.
Thank you, it did seem very odd.
I was curious whether anyone else had something like this occur.
