Protect Your Business From Any Google Updates

As an affiliate marketer even when you're doing things right, if you're building your business using organic traffic (SEO) and who isn't, you are not 100% in control of your business.

If you're building your business and when I say that, I mean building traffic to your website. Whether it's Google or third-party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. You are not 100% in control of your business.

And if you think you are, you're living in a dream world.

No matter what method you're using you will always be at the mercy of the search engines, and those third-party platforms.

And of course, I'm not suggesting not to use organic methods or those third-party platforms to build your business. Just understand you don't have 100% control of your business.

A Google update can wipe out your traffic and kill your business. Facebook can shut down your account without warning, and I've seen that happen plenty of times, and that includes me.

So what am I talking about?

What can protect your business from any updates from any platform or search engine?

I'm talking about building an asset you have 100% ownership and control of. An asset where it makes no difference what Google does or what any third-party platform does?

And I'm talking about your Email List.

One thing I've always been confused about is people here and in other communities tell people not to worry about building your mailing list when you're first starting. Worry about getting traffic first.

Well, that's the worst advice anyone could give you.

Yes, you need to focus on traffic, it's the lifeblood of any business. But give me one solid reason that you can't be building your making list from day 1. You can't.

You need to be building your mailing list from day 1.

Not only are you protecting your business from any updates from search engines or social platforms, but the numbers for having an email list speak for themselves.

Now I could give you a huge list of statistics that prove having an email list and why email marketing is so effective but here's one statistic that should make you sit up and take notice.

On average the ROI (return on investment) for email marketing is 3600% to 4200%. So for every $1 spent your return is $36-$42.

Your email list will be and is your most valuable asset.

Even in the darkest times when other revenue sources diminish or dry up altogether. Your email list can keep pumping steady revenue and keep your business alive.

And I know what I'm talking about. Every time Google or some social platform has made an update. The internet is flooded with people screaming that their traffic has dropped along with their income.

And the reason they do is these people are relying on traffic sources that they have zero control over.

But with an email list, it makes no difference what Google or any social platform does. Your email list will never be affected by these changes.

Even if everything was taken away from you. As long as you have your email list you'll be in great shape.

So here's my advice.

Good morning Leo,

Thank you for your very wise words, I know you are a man with lots of experience, so it's good to take your advice.

I remember when I first started researching Internet marketing 20 years ago; the email list appeared to be the biggest asset that you could have! It doesn't sound like much has changed in that respect.

Recently, I watched one of Jay's classes on email marketing, which was about nine months old. I was surprised that there were no comments about his class, which suggests that not many Wealthy Affiliate members are building a list, which surprised me!

So, "build your mailing list from day one and keep building it" sounds good to me!

But all you can do is remind people and hope they heed the advice. And I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but I fear the reality is most people won't.

I agree with all the idealogy and thinking.

But I believe and have always believed that the chances of getting people on the list vary between niches.

At least I tried it for a very long time without success. It is the same for me; some niches I read and read a lot. But I never get on the list.
Others I do.

You're right every niche is different, but a mailing list can be built no matter the niche.

Well, then, I have been doing all wrong in many years!

I am always adding to my email list. This is money in the bank stuff. Great article, great advice.

Totally agree Leo, as the saying goes "The money is in the list".
Even if the prospect doesn't buy, we still have them on a list so we can send them valuable information and many offers over time.
