Increased My Website Speed (With Free Image Resizer)

I've just managed to increase my website speed from the loading time of over 14 seconds to 8 seconds so I decided to share it with you.

Now and then I check the speed of my websites on GTMetrix. I can't remember when and where I've heard about this site but it's possible that someone on WA wrote a list of some tools and it was there.

It is free and it doesn't seem like something that tries to make you buy their services, at least to me it doesn't. Before I found out about this site, I used Neil Patel's Ubersuggest and didn't trust it much in this regard.

The website I'm talking about is https://gtmetrix.com/. You just insert your website name and it shows you a score. My websites hosted at WA are very well off but when I checked my old website (hosted elsewhere) yesterday, it was showing a score of F and D, loading time 14 s which is too much.

Apart from the score it also shows you what the main problems so you can mend them. In my case, the main problem were google adds and one image I have in my sign-up form.

So today I decided to take action and improve the speed. I looked at my adsense account and thought that the little money I've earned with them so far is not worth the slow speed so I removed the adds from my site. Then checked the speed again and it was better but still not good enough.

GTMetrix was saying if I resize the image in the sign-up form, I could save 1,2 MB which is a lot so I decided to do that.

The tool for image resizing I use is https://picresize.com/. It's free and easy to use, you can just upload the image you want to resize from your computer or directly from your website.

When I resized the image in question and re-tested the speed, my site shows a score of B and C and loading time 8 s. I'm happy with that. I'm not going to resize all images as it would take too much time. Don't need to have the highest score, I just wanted to increase the speed to a reasonable loading time.

The speed depends on many factors and if you have hosting at WA and use a good theme, you don't need to worry about it. But you can always test it on GTMetrix and see how it is.

Hope you are all having a serendipitious Saturday

Love
Lenka

Hello LenkaSophie congratulation for your work and achievements. I saw you built alreday 3 websites , can i ask you how it is going the business if you don't mind. Actually im still doing the course and i can't wait to see results so, a good information about this maybe be push me even further in what i'm doing .

Hello Riccardo, yes I've built three websites but only two of them are active. I started my first website in 2015, that was before WA. It's about language learning and it gets me new English students (I teach English on skype).
My second website is on hold, I started it when I joined WA and it was meant to be an MMO site but I'm not passionate about this topic so I stopped writing there.
My third site was started on 1.1.2020 and it's about health and beauty. It's a long process and I don't expect big results immediately but there is some traffic and small commissions from that site.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hey Lenka thanks for your replay . I know nothing come from nothing and it will take time for see good results . If i find myself stuck with something related to the course i will ask you, thanks again and i wish you all the best .

Hi Lenka, thanks for this info. How would you like your website loading occur within 2 seconds?

As Site Support to migrate your websites to the new WA server. Its in Beta form but they will do this on request. I did and the speed increase is amazing. Even on mobile.

Hope this helps.

Edwin

Hi Edwin, thanks for the suggestion, I was considering it when I joined WA but then I decided to leave it as it was for a couple of reasons.
I believe the slow speed is not caused by hosting but it's because I have many png images there and the site is cluttered with plugins so I'm going to solve that and see how it goes.

That is great news Lenka😃Way to go!

GTMetrix is one of my tools as well for optimizing my websites. Good advice on the online picture resize service.

I normally use the built in graphics tools on my MAcbook Air for resizing pictures. But i will test out the tool you have found. It is on my tool list now as well.

See, I have a MAC too and still don't know how to use all the features :) But I always find my way. There are instructions for everything nowadays.
Thanks for reading and taking time to comment Roy, much appreciated.

You are welcome Lenka😊 I enjoy your posts very much.

Thank you Roy, that's nice to hear!

14 was slow Lenka. Too slow for this game.
I did read about gtmetrix on a copywriting blog a while back, It was an encouraging review. I never took any action on it though.

My speeds are ok now. My overall site seo is now around 87. I can live with that.
One other thing that will slow a site is using photos as png.

Your site and google will like you more using jpegs.
Really there is not much difference in the appearance hardly noticeable actually.

Neil Patels Ubersuggest, is extreme pedantic I'm sure.

Michael.

Thank you Michael, it's nice to hear your speeds are ok, as well as the site SEO. I'll make sure not using png anymore. The culprit image was a png.

Thanks for the tips Lenka
I'll definitely take a look!

Dave

You're welcome, Dave. Worth checking. It's an unpleasant surprise to find out your site is not as fast as you thought but the resizing really helps.
