Increased My Website Speed (With Free Image Resizer)

I've just managed to increase my website speed from the loading time of over 14 seconds to 8 seconds so I decided to share it with you.

Now and then I check the speed of my websites on GTMetrix. I can't remember when and where I've heard about this site but it's possible that someone on WA wrote a list of some tools and it was there.

It is free and it doesn't seem like something that tries to make you buy their services, at least to me it doesn't. Before I found out about this site, I used Neil Patel's Ubersuggest and didn't trust it much in this regard.

The website I'm talking about is https://gtmetrix.com/. You just insert your website name and it shows you a score. My websites hosted at WA are very well off but when I checked my old website (hosted elsewhere) yesterday, it was showing a score of F and D, loading time 14 s which is too much.

Apart from the score it also shows you what the main problems so you can mend them. In my case, the main problem were google adds and one image I have in my sign-up form.

So today I decided to take action and improve the speed. I looked at my adsense account and thought that the little money I've earned with them so far is not worth the slow speed so I removed the adds from my site. Then checked the speed again and it was better but still not good enough.

GTMetrix was saying if I resize the image in the sign-up form, I could save 1,2 MB which is a lot so I decided to do that.

The tool for image resizing I use is https://picresize.com/. It's free and easy to use, you can just upload the image you want to resize from your computer or directly from your website.

When I resized the image in question and re-tested the speed, my site shows a score of B and C and loading time 8 s. I'm happy with that. I'm not going to resize all images as it would take too much time. Don't need to have the highest score, I just wanted to increase the speed to a reasonable loading time.

The speed depends on many factors and if you have hosting at WA and use a good theme, you don't need to worry about it. But you can always test it on GTMetrix and see how it is.

Hope you are all having a serendipitious Saturday

Love
Lenka
