My FaceBook Was Hacked

Hello Everyone.

A quick post to let you know that someone has created an account identical to mine, They are trying to scam my FaceBook friends with a lottery scheme. As you can see in the screenshot below, it has my name and it says that the account was just created and that it is different from your Facebook friend. That is your warning sign and is something that you now know to look for in any message. Kudos for that Facebook.

It isn't me. There are only a couple members that I message on Facebook. An awesome member here Brooklyn2008 spotted the scam and let me know about it. She has reported it as well.

I am really thinking that I am no longer accepting friends on my FaceBook business page. I am not saying that this was someone from here,

but, I have never had this issue before. This is one of the reasons I wouldn't use my personal FB profile.

If anyone receives a message on FB, and you see my name and picture, do not respond. REPORT it.

Who ever it is that has done this, just tried to scam an awesome young lady who JUST lost her father. How ignorant and messed up this individual is.

If you friend request me on FaceBook, I will not accept unless I know you.

Please do not take it personal, but if we have not had personal contact with each other here, to the point that I KNOW you, I will not accept.

I don't want anyone using my name or account to try to scam innocent good people who know how to earn money legitimately.

I really hope that this post will help to make sure no one falls for this. If they are using my account, chances are they are using others as well.

Keep that in mind when you receive messages of FaceBook.

Now I am going back to working on my REAL blog for WA.

Thank you and as always I would love to hear if this has happened to you or if you know of other signs that members can look for.

All comments are accepted and will be responded to

Wishing you all the best in all you do

Facebook should only allow one account.

This is a security flaw and should not allow double accounts with similar or same names, so that identity theft cannot even take place!

Facebook, the multi billion dollar corporation can program 2 AI's chatting with each other and getting self aware so they had to shut them down, but cannot even have photos compared used with face recognition to see that it is a fake account? How about the names, even simpler.

Why is Facebook not acting against these methods???

And for the users, why do you even accept unknown invitations??? That is the first step to be scammed, no matter if the person is connected to you or not!

Don't, never accept such requests!

I agree with you 100%.
I am actually considering just deleting it all together.

It is doing me more harm than good.
They are really showing where their priorities lye.

Thank you my friend

Hey Lee Ann, I'm really sorry you're having this bother. This happens to so many people, good thing you had a friend contact you so soon!

It's not really a hack per se, but an instance of 'facebook cloning'. Some people clone accounts as a prank, while others set up mirror profiles to scam those on your friends list, using your reputation to gain their confidence. The scamming won't always happen by private messenger, either. See here for a post from back in 2013 which describes a duplication then a block to set up shop on your page:

https://www.news24.com/MyNews24/Facebook-cloning-How-its-done-and-how-to-prevent-it-20130530

It might be time to take a look at your account settings and see if there are any more restrictive settings you can apply, without losing the functionality and reach you'd like.

Your scammer needn't be from WA, btw. Without knowing how you've set up your page I'm wondering: is your profile picture and friends list visible to the public?

Also, I hope you'll be super generous with that 100K you just got, and remember to shout everyone here a drink. ;)

Thank you. This information is perfect. I will be making changes with out a doubt. I will also tag the link for future reference and to share with others if need be.
Very much appreciated.

Lol. If only it were me : )
Actually that would be Nicki that recieved the message and she was kind enough to let me know about it.
I don't think that would even be enough to buy EVERYONE here a drink.

Sorry that these incidents exist, I understand you being cautious. Also thank you for the heads up.

Hi Lee Ann,
Thanks for sharing the info.
