A Very Strange Affiliate Program

I write about DIY electric guitar kits. While visiting a site, I saw a link for their Affiliate Program at the bottom of their pages. When I clicked the link, the page mentioned an "Affiliate Program to generate new revenue from your content while helping the GTS Sale grow better" and gave an email address where I could get more information.

Of course, I sent the email. Then I received this reply:

That didn't make sense to me, so I asked for clarification and got this response:

That's the silliest thing I've found for an "Affiliate Program" since I started doing this. Has anyone else encountered such nonsense???

The kit arrived from China today, actually much sooner than I expected. And from my initial inspection, it looks like this is very good quality stuff. Now I have to explain to them what an Affiliate Program really is and try to convince them that they need one.

Hi, Larry

Haha - That's ridiculous, in my view!

I would definitely steer clear of them. 😎

What do you think of the quality of their kits?

Frank 🎸

I took the plunge and ordered a kit, but haven't received it yet. I imagine, like all the other Chinese kits (which is more than 99% of them) there will be some quality issues but I've got a few of these under my belt and think I can handle it. I hope.

Looks like very cheap materials stinky quality, you will find that out the hard way, good luck.

What are you talking about that looks like very cheap materials stinky quality? The picture?

That’s great, Larry.

It’s one of the best ways to make an objective assessment of their kit’s quality, assembly difficulty, playability, and sound.

You need to know if the kit is priced right to sell effectively.

Please let me know how you make out.

Frank 😎🎸

No, I am talking about the DIY kit from China, usually cheap and not very good quality. My electrical wheel chair’s parts are a dud. Made in China, that why it's falling apart. Parts ordered from where, China. Who Makes the parts? China, everything today manufacturing from there. That is what I am talking about.

Almost all of these kits are made in China. If they were made in the USA, no one could afford them. The difference is whether you order them direct, wait, and hope you don't have to send something back or get replacement parts, or whether you order it from a domestic supplier (who got it from China) and get a more limited selection a little faster and at a higher price.

I've built a bunch of them, including the one in the picture which came from China - mahogany body, maple neck and fingerboard, very good quality and above average electronics. I'm sure I will encounter something with the one I ordered from this place, but I can handle it. That's why I write about it.

I doubt, though, that I will attempt to promote this particular brand. I'll still write about the assembly process.

Ok. Yes, you are correct. Everything is made from there. I just don't like it. I understand what you are doing. Thanks for explaining more in-depth. That was helpful for me to understand what you do in your DYI guitar niche.

Larry, it's a Chinese affiliate program hence the language issue. I would be wary of this. I am not sure how trustworthy this GTS program is, yes, it's strange. I wouldn't do this if I was in your shoes.

Looks to me like a great way to get banned from Facebook groups!

I agree. Just stay away, the consensus from WA members here says so.

Sure seems strange to me, my friend!

Jeff

Like nothing I've ever seen before. It isn't really an "affiliate program." Maybe a rewards program.

I haven't seen anything like that before either, Larry! Take it from Frank! He is a guitar expert, and he says steet clear! I agee!

Jeff

This is a bit suspicious to me. I hope you get an answer from someone higher up to clarify.

Kevin and Son

Not yet sure how to get anyone higher up, or if it is even worth pursuing.
