If you don't hear back from affiliate programs.
Follow up with them. There have been several that I applied with, both through affiliate networks and individually and never heard back from (and some still haven't even after following up). I even contacted CJ and asked if there was a possibility that they didn't get my request and they said nope, they probably just don't keep up with their affiliate program.
Why a business wouldn't want to keep up with it I don't know...
There have been a couple that have accepted my application because I followed up.
So, for you newbies like me, if you don't hear from an affiliate program don't be afraid to send them an e-mail!

The corollary to that is, if you don't keep trying then you are very much not at all serious.
There is a very good reason they don't follow up. 99% of applications are a waste of time. By ignoring them they can spend more time with the 1% that demonstrate their persistence by chasing up.

Thank you for the encouragement. My thoughts are along these lines: It was suggested to us to apply for these programs as a way to spur us onward. Maybe prematurely. I feel that in my case my site was not ready for scrutiny from these programs. It wasn't ready. I will go back and apply again, but not until I have completed more lessons.
Affiliate programs were something of a mystery to most of us when we were starting out.
The only way to learn something new is to give it a go. The first few attempts in any endeavour, will always be failure. That's precisely HOW we learn.
