Just a quick reminder that online success isn't always linear. Building an online business can be fraught with challenges, setbacks, mistakes, triumphs, and all the emotions that go along with those. Here's how to ride the emotional rollercoaster.

Building an Online Business _ How to Ride the Emotional Rollercoaster

Some seasons, you'll be creating content like a machine. Doing all the things: blog posts, videos, social media posts, podcasts, reels, pins, funnels, you name it.

Other seasons, life will get in the way. Inspiration will dry up. You'll be drowning in tech set-up.

These last couple of weeks have been like that for me. It took me a whole week to set up a payment gateway on my site, only to find it still didn't display my pricing in dollars.

Then I got cracking on an email nurture sequence, while also doing a 5-Day Group-Your-FB-Group Challenge.

By Thursday last week, I was saying under my breath, "I give up, I surrender."

Friday morning, I won a $500 prize - the first month in a program I've been keen on joining for a good couple of years.

And that's how it goes. You're about to throw in a towel, and then someone throws you a bone. And you're baaack!

The thing is: Feeling like you want to give up is NORMAL. It's part of the process. It doesn't mean you’ve failed - and it most certainly doesn't mean you're a failure.

If you just keep keeping on, if you just keep taking action in your business, there will come a day when it all falls into place, when it all starts making sense and Dollars and cents.

How to Ride the Emotional Rollercoaster Like a Pro

Here are a few tools and mindset shifts that have helped me stay on track, even when the track was upside down and my stomach was churning from the ride.

1. Anchor Your Why

Your why is your seatbelt.

When everything feels shaky, come back to your reason for starting.

Maybe it was time freedom. Maybe it was making an impact, making a difference, leaving a legacy. Maybe it was simply proving to yourself (or someone else) that you CAN.

Whatever your why is, write it down. Look at it often. Keep it top of mind. And let it fuel your next steps.

2. Celebrate the Small Stuff

  • That first post you publish.
  • That one comment from someone who gets you.
  • That feeling when you figure out how to embed a YouTube video on your site.
  • Your first sale on Amazon - even if you only made a few cents.

These are all signs of growth and are all worth celebrating. Celebrate every single one.

Because every small action you take, even reading a blog post, commenting, or watching a training, is a step forward. And those steps add up over time.

3. Stop the Comparison Spiral

You are not behind. You are not late to the party. You are exactly where you're meant to be.

Don’t let someone else’s highlight reel make you doubt your path.

Don’t compare your chapter 2 to someone else's chapter 22.

Trust your timeline.

Some people go viral overnight. Others build brick by brick.

Stay in your lane and keep building your version of success.

4. Don’t Cling to the Highs

Yes, the wins feel amazing. When you finally have a post go VIRAL. When you finally earn that big commission.

When you finally nail that perfect launch. But the wins come and go.

When you're in a growth spurt, enjoy it, be proud, celebrate like mad, but stay humble.

These moments are part of the ride, not the whole ride.

5. Rest, Don’t Quit

There will be days when it feels like it's all too much. Burnout is real. If you're feeling overwhelmed, pause.

Step away from your desk. Breathe. Take a walk in nature. Do something that fills your cup.

Your business (and that thing you're grappling with) will still be here when you return. But you'll come back to your desk feeling refreshed and be able to take a look at it with fresh eyes.

Burnout isn’t the badge of a serious entrepreneur. Ease, joy, and flow is.

To keep your passion up, you need to take time out - and take things a bit lighter. Keep your sense of humour. Everything's going to be okay. It'll all work out. Breathe. You've got this.

6. Focus on Process, Not Just Results

You can’t control how many clicks, sales, or likes you get — but you can control your actions.

You can control your effort, your attitude, your consistency, your ability to bounce back from setbacks, your willingness to tackle challenges and learn from your mistakes.

Success is the sum of tiny, consistent (often boring) actions.

Process = Power = Progress

7. Lean into the Community

Plug into this community. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. We’re here.

Ask the question. Share the struggle. Celebrate that win. This wonderful community has got your back.

You’ll be surprised how much lighter the ride feels when you’re not riding solo.

Final Thoughts

Wherever you are on the rollercoaster, climbing, coasting, looping, or free-falling, just know this:

You’re doing better than you think.
Every step forward counts.
Even the messy ones.

So stay in the game.
Keep learning.
Keep building.
And when you need to scream or celebrate, come here. We get it.

Over to you:
What part of the rollercoaster are you riding right now? What's your big WHY?
Let’s share our ride together in the comments.

Hi, what a wonderful article. I've been guilty of comparing where I'm at to others on the same journey. Thanks for the reminder that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be in this moment.

Yesterday, I felt like I was in the looping stage. Today I was climbing. Tomorrow, I think I'll be coasting and back on track.

Yes! You are exactly where you are supposed to be, Jarie Lyn, riding that rollercoaster like a boss!

Love how you describe your own journey these padst few days using the rollercoaster analogy.

What's your big why? Whats driving you?

I want my life back.

My health issues caused a tremendous amount of debt, and my husband (and myself) deserve to have some fun--to live our lives stress free, Time-freedom is the goal. My why.

Aw, sorry to hear about your health issues. Are they resolved now? Radiant health, getting your life back, time freedom, and FUN are fabulous goals to work towards. I love your why.
