Really? Is This For Real?

Hello, WA members.

This post will be short, and I will try to make it to the point. Because REALLY? I mean is this for real?

I requested comments on a post last night. I am writing reasonably complicated information about DNA coding and genetics to promote a product I am selling.

But before I go into this, I want to say that for two years, I have supported site comments. I have changed the wording to fit my needs. I have edited each one in grammar (which I pay for.) I have overlooked poorly understood comments and rewritten them.

My excuses were, people won't leave perfect comments on my posts, so I shouldn't expect this from site comments. Not everyone speaks English as the first language. Some are in a hurry, and I can help them out a bit.

I have written blogs on here giving suggestions on how to improve comments.

But this time is the worst I have ever seen it. I just disapproved 4 out of 7 comments. None of the disapprovals fit into my list of excuses.

My reasons for disapproval are

  1. The grammar and spelling were so bad I could not begin to understand what the person was trying to say.
  2. One person read the title and commented on that and about how they were so excited to see this post and to buy it.
  3. Another person talked about something other than DNA, coding, and athletic ability. It didn't even come close to what the article said.
  4. And the other person talked about how heredity can help you choose a career.

I am going to thank the three people who took the time to read the article before commenting.

BUT GIVE ME A BREAK ON THE OTHER 4!!!!

My site is vital to me. I pay for the comments. The comments are an extension of my google rankings, my word count, my integrity, and my income.

Hi Laura,

It's really disappointing if people just write generic comments without reading the full post.

We really take time to write our posts so we expect our readers to give good, relevant comments.

Like you, I do edit comments as well for the readers to understand them better.

Marita

Hello, So good to see you. Hope you are healthy and safe. I am torn as to what to do. I really want to get comments but it is so much work to edit all. I may try it again soon. We shall see.

Good afternoon Laura,

I understand your disappointment and frustration very well.
I would like to ask you if you have gone to the WA profile of these people? See when they signed up and who is the mentor, or even the mentor of the mentor?
I have been doing that for quite some time now and whenever I discover "things" I dully report it to SiteSupport with screenshots included.
I am waiting for a new WA rule. You cannot start your journey at WA by making comments. A prudent time has to pass before that is allowed. Let us see what happens.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

This is a great idea. But I tried this before and could not find the person in WA. Their Avatar and their WA profile are different. What are your ways of finding them in WA? And what do you do with the info of who their mentor is?

I mean, I have only heard from or had a reply from my mentor maybe 3 or 4 times in 2 years. So what can a mentor do to stop this?

I would love to hear more about how you do this so I can use this if I decide to ever use comments again.

Good evening Laura,

If I do not know the person who leaves a comment on SiteComments I click on that little picture top left. There I can see if the person is the same as the Gravatar. The photo might be a female and the Gravatar is a male.
If I find the whole thing a tic suspicious, I will go to notifications and hover over the little photo, see screenshot.
Then I can click on their profile to have a look.
You see the date when somebody becomes a member of WA.
You click on their network and after Kyle and Carson the 3e person is the mentor.
If it still is not clear you click on the mentor, look at their profile and find their mentor. One can discover quite a few things like that and you start feeling like Sherlock Holmes.
Always send screenshots of all this to SiteSupport.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

Perfect. Thank you for this reply. I will follow this process in the future if I start requesting comments again.

Hi Laura, I have read your blog and comments from other members and although I have never asked for comments I don't think I will be in the future. I will just take my chances.
I am also of the opinion that they don't all read the article before they comment.
Good Luck..
Wilson

Wilson, I do understand this comment.

I dont think many people do read it Laura. I stopped using it for this reason. They want the money only.
Site feedback is getting the same. I have even had feedback that suggests adding things I already have.
I am hoping that some of the changes will be there, in the site comments and feedback.

Somehow I feel it is more than the money they want. I have some ideas but will not go into that. I too am hoping for changes.

Laura

It has been suggested by Kyle to disapprove all comments that aren't up to standards. This will help weed out the people who are writing comments strictly for cash.

I believe they are trying to fix Site Comments, so that it works better for members.

I've had a few doozies too, and have started disapproving everything that isn't a real comment.

I do hope they are working on a fix now. It has been an issue for a long time and has only gotten worse.
