The Use of PLR Articles
I've seen WA members asking about the use of PLR (Private Label Rights) articles. Whether or not they should use them, if it will hurt the SEO of their websites, etc., so I thought I would put in my 2 cents.
I'm not sure who is actually writing these articles but if you read through them they are usually poorly written. Besides the grammatical errors, the information does not flow very well.
However, rather than staring at a blank screen for hours on end, a PLR article can give you a place to start. You can modify these articles as much as you want. You can change the title, delete portions, add portions, work it in with your niche, add your images and links and so on. By the time you're finished with it, it is your own work.
I do recommend that if the article is about a subject that you're not really familiar with, that you fact check it. Some of these articles can be outdated so do your research.
Sometimes modifying an existing piece of work is easier than starting from scratch.
Just an idea.

I've stepped in the PLR doo before. Thankfully that experience is long ago in the rear view mirror. As you said, Laura, the articles are generally poor.
They give a beginner false hope. In fact, it would not surprise me if PLR articles are responsible for many false starts.
With the time it takes to double check the facts in these, one could have researched an interesting topic that he or she will actually enjoy covering.
Writing about what one knows, is passionate about, and fully understands is the best way to go, I think. Start small. Get a feel for the audience. Then we can actually help others. :)

I am under the impression that PLR is good only when creating an ebook or other free give away for joining a list. Never for a blog or website. Google will never sees it.
my suggestion would be to create unique content...the problem buying PLR articles is that you don't know how many times they have been sold..
That is correct but as I indicated, by the time it is properly modified it's not the same article. If done properly, by the time you're finished with it, it is unique content. It's just being used as starting place.

Laura, you've eased my mind, been wondering if I could do that on occasion....thanks for the info!

Using PLR content on your website is never a good idea, in particular if you plan on getting ranked in Google.
Also, if you "rewrite" PLR content, it will always end up causing issues as well. Google is very good at finding this sort of content and definitely will punish folks that have any copied content on their sites.
Often times it takes MUCH longer to rewrite and rework an article than it does to write a brand new and completely unique article.
If you are looking for writing ideas, I highly recommend that you consider using Google, it will become your best friend. Pair that with some keyword research and market research, you can get just about anything you need to utilize to build out the framework of any post.
Thanks for writing this in time, Kyle, one is tempted to get careless if not reminded of the essentials......
Yeah, happy to offer some insight here. There were many years that PLR content was very popular and people were using it across their networks of sites with OK results, but Google quickly caught on and starting punishing people.
It is something I have never condoned because your website should be YOUR unique content or content that you are paying someone else to write (that is unique). Duplicate content will do nothing but hurt your rankings and often times, your credibility.
Yes!
It wouldn't make us happy anyway....
Creativity will.
Duly Noted.

Thanks so much. But no worries. I know how it was meant.
And there's so much in all of us that wants to get out.
It's incredible how that changes a person's whole lot in life, I speak from experience and learned it late.......
Kind Regards
Therese
Thank you, Kyle. Precious insight.
