I have put the code in the sidebar and the homepage and have had nothing appear from adsense. Need some direction. Thanks!

Have you asked to be approved by Google? Did you inform them you have placed the code? Did you receive an email about it? It took me 2 weeks to get approval!

How do I inform them I have placed the code?

On the Google Ads website where you applied for the program...and got the code...

Of course Lainey, that's how most of us get information :)

It is ok, as long as you are not just rephrasing everything sentence by sentence. ;)

No matter what we write about, I am pretty sure it has been written by someone else before.
So, doing research is what everybody does and has to do.

I would call it more like "getting inspiration".

You absolutely can quote something, but then you need to reference and link to the source.

Just be aware to use your own style and words, to create original, unique content. Maybe make it personal....stuff like that.
