So i have been trying to figure out how to use images from the site sxc.hu as recommended by Kyle. I figured out how to find images I can use royalty free. But my issue now is whenever I go to download the images or save them they have a text image of Istock embedded into the image. Does anyone know how to get those images without the Istock in the picture?
When you grab an image that's copyrighted, it's going to have that watermark on it - shutterstock, iStock, etc. You have to follow their process for securing the images, not just a right-click, save-as.
Try wikimedia for free images, too. But snapping them out of a magazine is going to result in really, really poor quality pics, and probably moire patterns from the printing process.
very true. I will check out wikimedia today as well. I figured snapping them out of a magazine may be a bad idea. Was sort of a desperate reach in my mind to find images I really want. lol. I'm sure Ill get the hang of it. hopefully
But you still have to follow their process and pay the one-time license on that site. You don't have to pay ongoing royalties, but you have to pay for the pic.
I am a member of the sxc.hu and have never had to pay. When I download them also I don't get an istock image mark on the photo. I am also a member of istock photo where I have paid for pictures. Are you sure you are looking at the right page? I just double checked and downloaded a picture with no problem.
definately looking at the right page. Maybe I am doing something wrong? I have signed up for the site and tried using images that are royalty free. when ever I download them they still have the Istock mark on them.. -_-
When I view it from my computer the premium photos have the istock photo and the free ones don't. Strange! I just downloaded a pic of a cat and one of lettuce to double check lol.
I just thought of what might be the issue. Sometimes on the site if what you're searching for has no free options then only premium pictures will be displayed. And those all have the istock photo watermark.
Here are some sites and training I have bookmarked.

That last one is a training by Beverley. Hope that this list helps you to find what you need.
thank you for those I am going to take the time to check each and every one of your links out today. I really need to get a move on with my site but I want and need at least an image or 2 per page I have created. So that will be my task for today. :)
thanks guys., I understand the copy write laws and stuff. I was just brainstorming ideas on where to get images I really want from. I have watched the tutorials on how to get images and stuff. I just haven't been able to find anything i wanted to use. everything seems to cost money. I guess ill just carry my camera around and snap pictures randomly.. seems to be the best way to get my own images.
It's not just the images Kyndra! It contravenes copyright laws to copy anything from magazines and books. We do it all the time when we photocopy an article for a friend to read. However, doing it for the world to see may cause big problems. Always best to take your own original pics or find a suitable pic from the many free online. Wishing you much success.
With pictures, Sometimes tricky,If you look at my site Creative Marbles,And go to the photo gallery. You will see my company name across the pictures. A book or magazine,Companies own the pictures.
And can sometime end up with a law site. However send me a PM to what you want.Maybe I can help,Or give you a very good direction.Ken
It depends on who owns the images. If the photos are credited to a photographer, you need their express permission. If the photos belong to the magazine, you need their permission. Old books may be a different story. Check with the library on those. Good Luck!
There is a training on where to acquire royalty free stock photos. We shouldn't take them from other sources because they could be copyrighted. You don't want to get in trouble!
