Is social media really worth time?

Simple question. Don't over think it.

Using social media does not take a lot of time. It does take some time to set up your account and get things started but after the first week or so....it takes maybe 10 minutes of attention a week.

10 minutes! That is less time than it takes me to shower. Post something every few days, only include a link for every 4th post.

Social media is worth the time if you choose the right networks and if your target audience is actually using social media.

If your target audience is not using social media on a regular basis then do not waste the time trying to get targeted traffic. Social media can be seen as a waste of time because if you are not chasing targeted traffic then the traffic you get will not turn into conversions.

How do you know where your target audience is? Research...don't be lazy, head to Google and look for some stats.

Do not assume that Facebook is the go to spot for traffic.

Before I go further with social networks....do you have a targeted audience? If not, you should find one. This is important, you want to know the people you are reaching out to.

Back to social networks.

Where is your audience? I am going to use an example from the top of my head. Teens! Teens are probably the biggest social media users, young adults as well.

Facebook is not where they are!

Although studies show that over 90% of teens and young adults have Facebook. Studies also show that less than half of them actually use their Facebook accounts.

Twitter, Instagram, Vine, and Pinterest are getting more and more popular. Twitter is the second largest social network!

If you plan on using social media marketing, do you research. Make sure that your target audience is actually going to be where you are marketing.

Stop thinking about the popular social networks of the past and start thinking of tomorrows popular networks. What is trending right now can be out within weeks. Think of tomorrow. Think of what's new. Think outside of the box.

What are your thoughts on social media marketing?

Don't have any social media on my site yet. Since I simply stalled out at the money making part of the courses, have to go backwards and get traffic. Amazon cancelled me due to lack of traffic. I'm in a highly competitive market, so getting this site scottybdj.com will take extra effort in the content arena. Scotty B

Wath about Google +?

There are lots of social media networks that I did mention. G+ I think helps rank.

I am new to all this and have no facebook account. I opened a google+ account per the training. I noticed you didnt say anything about google+. Do you think that is out too? or am I on the right track. Should I open a facebook account? In your opinion.
Have a great day!

I have no idea what your niche or target audience is. I think that you should try finding stats about them. Find out what they are using. G+ I think helps rank

I've been thinking about this too. My Facebook audience is definitely not my target. I'm just using it to market and hope my "friends" will share my postings and then potentially find a member of my audience. I have a Twitter account set up but don't use it as of yet. No Pintrest - although it may be in my best interest ... ha. No Instragram either. The latter two would probably do me good.

Good blog.

Instagram....that really depends on the niche. I think it would be great for food blogs!

Excellent and informative!

Good advice, Kylie, and thanks. Again, as an older person unaccustomed to social media, it's taking some getting used to. And it may not take much time to do the posts, it's hard (for me) not to get sucked in...all of a sudden hours have evaporated before my eyes!

Kylie, Thank you so much for your post. It is most enlightening and timely as I am just seriously getting involved in social media marketing.

Great post Kyle! Being an older person that grew my first business out of the yellow pages I agree that social media is a big key. While you can have some success just falling into the social media scene, having a plan if how to go about it is much more efficient...and necessary.

This is an area I will need to tackle in the near future for sure. Besides a rarely used personal Facebook acct., a hardly ever used twitter acct. that I still do not understand how to hashattack post on, lol, and a new google+ acct. thanks to the training here, I have very little experience with it.

But I can see where it is going to be a very real help in this field so I need to get used to it, just as you say, thanks for the post!

Jack :)

First, do some research to see if your target audience is using social media. Go from there(: I think using g+ will help rank though! There are posts that may help you with twitter here on WA

Well said Kylie. Take care and be well,
Andre
