Why Does Everybody Want to be an Influencer? (most make no money)
I know we tend to look up to those that we view as public figures, and that is the case with influencers now on social media. There is a problem though. We perceive these folks through a much different lens than who they actually are, and we also perceive these folks with "followings" to be much more successful than they are.
There is a type of influencer though, a "niche influencer" that are the highest earning influencers, and that is someone offering "niche" content. Someone with a woodworking channel, or someone helping others with advice on coaching baseball, or someone that is offering gardening tips.
These influencers have "marketable" value to a company, as companies in that niche can effectively promote products/services to that influencers followers.
Niche influencers get niche companies wanting them to promote their products and services, whereas generalized “look at me” influencers are dime a dozen and don’t succeed.
So if you are "doing social" for the sake of trying to create a following, and not for the purposes of helping people in a particular niche, you are wasting your time and energy.
...Energy that can be much better served building an actual business, which starts with a website which is the foundational building block of any successful brand online.

Hi Kyle I am so glad I found this great video of yours here today. That is a lit for one dark gap on my progress, reassuring me that my detour through social media is not totally lost. I had reactivated it. My posts are created within the niche personal development, which I need to keep on. with my other WA promotion website. It seems too broad and crazy, however I am connecting my dots and you as usual master your teachings. Thanks you so much! I appreciate it!
My brother, my brother I hear you loud and clear and I agree with all of my heart. It's one thing that wealthy affiliate has taught me over the years, since 2018, and that is, never look at anyone as a dollar sign, never promote anything you wouldn't use yourself. Always try to help people solve their problems, and the money will always follow. On any of the social media platforms, we must see the outcome of the success that one talks about before we can even begin to embrace, I want to do what he or she does. As always Kyle, love what you say, now please have that righteous and wonderful Wednesday.
Great video Kyle
It’s a complicated world out there and unfortunately social media has such a mind grip on younger generations especially. They really do look up to these influencers. And they do think these people must be rolling in the dollars. But , as you say , generally people do not know the actual business side of it all.
Very interesting.👌
It really does, and it isn't just the younger generation. It is most people. The thing is, we follow and listen to those that are actually helping us with something, or continually providing us with value. Outside of entertainment and people wanting to "be like" someone simply because of the life they are portraying, there is some real value in offering value based niche content.
If that is the direction one is going to head, I recommend really offering value to your niche...that is when the clout will matter and pay dividends.
I totally agree Kyle.
And I must admit I have been "sucked" into one or two on the likes of Youtube to but I do tend to find that its something that has caught my eye, or been placed through cookie recommendations, and they don't hold my attention for long.
So Yes, like you say, better to create valued content in your niche.
Good morning Great Leaders and. ...WA... Community ...well clarified My Leader Kyle...To be that Kind of Influencer it's Fruitful less to me and it's destroying the proper way to grow especially on our youth....I just Thank. ...WA...Home for giving us a chance to do Good us and Community.

I know this is an old post, but I just saw it now. I was thinking about how people build personal brands and how that would help them pivot into other niches. I still think it's best to focus on a specific niche. My favorite influencer is probably Greg Doucette, a Canadian like you. I notice he focuses very heavily on bodybuilding, however he is first and foremost Greg Doucette. I notice he seems to be pivoting into other niches and it is easy for him to do that as he has a huge following. What do you think of his approach? He's very straight up and authentic I think.
Yeah, influencers that are niche focused gain a lot more traction and have a bigger and more useful following. The problem comes down to time/value trade off, to build this following is fine, but if that is all you have, you potentially wont' get much reach within any singular social channel.
I know people with 500K-1MM followers within instagram (and that is all they have) that don't make enough to each.
So it comes down to investing your time and energy in the right places. If he has a website, and is getting "sponsored" through brands, then he is aligned nicely with a niche. Those that are just looking for followers, without a specific and engaged audience don't have much value.
