Did Elon Musk Pull the Trigger on Twitter's Blue Bird?

Hey everyone!

We are all at the edge of our seats, because today we're diving headfirst into the latest evolution within "Muskland", primarily with a focus on where Twitter is headed.

Has Elon Musk gone off the deep end and shot the blue bird out of the sky? Don't get your feathers ruffled just yet, I'm not talking about a real bird. lol

I'm chatting about our dear friend, the Twitter bird. The symbolic bird that we have associated with Tweeting for the past decade+, that now may become obsolete and replaced with a new brand, new logo, and new vision.

Let's crack this egg and see what's inside, shall we?

So Long, Twitter: Rise of the X-Men (and Women)

When you fired up your good ol' Twitter today, did you think you'd entered the Twilight Zone? I did.

The famous, blue bird has flown the coop, and in its place, a sleek white 'X' on a black canvas. No, this isn't some kind of practical joke...it's the real deal!

See for yourself below..

Elon Musk, never one to shy away from shaking things up, has reinvented Twitter (or should I say 'X'?) as part of his plan to turn it into an "everything app." Sounds like a bit of an outlandish venture doesn't it. But hey, if anyone can pull this off, it is likely going to be Elon.

Twitter's Extreme Makeover: A Masterstroke or a Fowl Play?

Opinions on this dramatic switcheroo have been flying around faster than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Some folks are baffled... without the bird, what on earth do we call our tweets now? X-pressions? X-claims? X-weets?

There's also a bit of worry in the air... what about all those years of brand recognition that Twitter worked so hard for. Was this all just thrown out with the new rebranding, and it is going to lead to an awkward stage in the company.

I must confess, I'm a little taken aback myself... the new logo seems a lot colder, and a lot less fun than the blue bird, but it certainly exudes "the future".

So, why did Musk chuck out the Twitter bird and slap a big 'X' on the front door? Well, that's a million-dollar question.

For starters, it's clear that Musk, is not a run-of-the-mill kinda guy. He's always got his fingers in a lot of pies, and he's not afraid to stir the pot... electric cars, intergalactic travel, solar roofs, you name it. And now he's poking his nose into social media, and certainly has come into this world without any regard to "convention".

Convention doesn't lead to innovation or evolution though. So I can appreciate why he is taking a tried model, and looking to make it better and evolve it.

His first mission after getting his mitts on Twitter, is to give it a complete facelift. Now, some folks reckon this is just Musk being Musk, leaving his mark on his shiny new toy.

Musk's like a knight who's just seized a castle, and he's eager to hoist his flag up high for all to see. In layman's terms, with his wealthy and his apparent desire to be in the news, he just wants to claim his stake in the industry.

Secondly, Musk's got this big idea to morph Twitter into a 'jack of all trades' app. He's hoping to follow in the footsteps of China's WeChat, and turn 'X' into a one-stop-shop for everything digital. It's a mighty ambitious goal, but hey, as they say, go big or go home, right?

Everything to everyone? I don't know how achievable that is, but I am not going to put anything past Musk and his capabilities (and his foresight).

That said, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. By turning Twitter inside out, Musk could be biting off more than he can chew. Let's face it, folks loved Twitter for its simplicity. Now with Musk at the wheel, there's a chance he could alienate some of his long time users if things get too complicated.

Finally, you've gotta consider that Musk might be cooking up a master plan. He's got a knack for sprinkling the 'X' factor around his ventures.

His rocket company? SpaceX.

That old startup of his that turned into PayPal? That was initially called, X.com.

The 'X' in these cases stands for something extraordinary. So, who knows? Maybe he's trying to spin a web around this 'X' brand and make it a household name.

In a nutshell, Musk's Twitter makeover is a real wild card. Will it be a stroke of genius, or a complete shot in the dark. One thing's for sure, though, Musk is not one to follow the crowd. He never has been and that is something that I like about him, and his approach to business.

Whatever you think of his personality, you can't take away from him the fact that he is an innovative genius and a proven winner. He breathes and sleeps (literally) inside the walls of his projects and that is the personality trait that leads to success.

And with him at the helm, you can bet your bottom dollar 'X' (or Twitter, for the old-school folks) is in for one heck of a ride.

What's Next on the Horizon?

But hang on...Musk isn't done yet. There's talk about adding all sorts of bells and whistles like audio, video, messaging, and even banking. It may be the town square of the world, and the app of all apps...or not. Only time will tell.

Did Musk kill the bird? Maybe. Was it the RIGHT move?

What are your thoughts on the latest twist to Twitter, and do you think that X is going to thrive, or alienate long time users?

I tweeted or X'd an original post just two days ago with a link to a video I was referring to. The next morning, I was astonished to see that I had over 1,000 views, over 100 likes, several comments and also a few shares. That has never happened to me on Twitter before. Or should I say X?

Wow, that is the thing. You can get some good reach on X, if you are active and you post content that gets picked up by others.

Thank you for your interesting blog post, Kyle; it's appreciated.

I believe that Elon Musk has a great plan for Twitter, he's not afraid to ruffle a few feathers! If it was anyone else making the same decision, I might have my doubts, but I believe this man knows what he's doing. He's very unique!

I must admit that I preferred the old logo, not that logos do a huge amount for me, but it was a bit brighter on the eyes!

I believe he really knows what he's doing and he has something absolutely massive up his sleeve! I think he's probably going to be a competitor to YouTube eventually. He could well add a free speech video side to the platform. He probably knows that some people are fed up with YouTube not allowing free speech.

I think that X is going to thrive!

Have a great weekend.

He certainly isn't afraid to ruffle feathers, and he had a much bigger plan with twitter than most people can even imagine before he purchased it. He didn't do it so he could tweet and get 50M views per tweet (though that might have been part of it lol), he wants to use this engaged user base to disrupt other industries.

Time will tell how this materializes and where he takes X, but I am not going to assume failure...quite the opposite.

Sadly, many people seem to like to knock people's plans when they are doing something big! Thankfully, it's not like this on the Wealthy Affiliate platform, which is great!

Yes, I think he knows how to compete with the competition and he will probably do an excellent job. I'm with you, I'm expecting to see some amazing and probably quite unique things happen with X!

It's because they don't "get it". He thinks much bigger than 99.9999% of people, and that is why he is the richest person on the planet, with probably the biggest trail of big idea execution out of anyone in the past 100 years.

Yes, I hear you and I'm with you on that, Kyle! A very interesting character indeed who has some amazing ideas!

It would be interesting to come back to this post in a couple of years and see how Twitter has changed.

A very happy Sunday to you and your family.

Thank you, Kyle, for this information post. I'm not a social media fan least of all Twitter. My first encounter with the platform was through the WA course when I opened a Twitter account.

We will only realize the full impact of technology as it unfolds. So, there is still much to be seen and we will continue to be baffled by the outcome.

I will not be impacted by changes to Twitter since I have no sentiments toward it whatsoever. However, I may begin to use the platform going forward as I'm working on finishing up the Bootcamp course here and expanding my business.

There's good and evil in the world and people will choose to display what drives them the most. That, too, is left to be seen as technology continues to develop. We all need to give an account for the actions we take as there will always be consequences.

I have actually seen Twitter improve drastically since Elon has taken over. Nobody likes change, and he has made some changes that I feel are for the better...though the community gets in an uproar with any shift. We see it too, any design evolution people tend to hate at first, then they come to love it (as it is done with a purpose).

Let's see how this rolls out here though, I think he is really going to tackle some big ideas and aim to break conventional industries up (like banking) with X.

You are so right, Mr. Musk has a thing for the Letter X. He founded the financial platform "X.com" which was renamed Paypal. He started the SpaceX platform, It is rumored his child is named X.
He is a brilliant wizard, an innovator, and a little bent in some of his dealings.
For the general public, the X at the end of a text means a kiss. Perhaps he is paying homage to Malcolm X?
Whatever X means to Elon it does not bode well for people who love the blue bird. Good or Bad...The online social media world will never be the same and X marks the spot.

1

I think he tried to name one of his kids, starting wth the X character but it was disallowed as it had bizarre characters and numbers within it. lol

But he does seem fixated on X, and the idea of being everything to everyone. That is a pretty broad scope project, and one that I imagine could have the potential for all sorts of scope creep.

Elon Musk is a goof and that's putting it lightly. I never had a Twitter account. With that being said people really need to look at this guy from both a moral and theological perspective. He sees humans as meir data points and his belief in baal is most disturbing. He also sees man as a burden on the planet. His take on AI is pure Satanic. Anyone look into the mother of his children and how she engages in body mutilation. Elon thinks its fascinating.

3

He is an interesting guy indeed, but I don't think he is as sinister with his motives as you think. If you ever catch him in a candid interview, I think you will view him from a different light.

Generally speaking though, we have all become "data", and we are all being used by every technology company from Google, to Meta, to Twitter, to Apple, to LinkedIn, etc. It is the commodity that they are able to trade with advertisers to build billions in profits.
