Reviewing my earlier successes

As I move forward, I'm reconsidering some things I did in the past that WORKED! The one thing that was probably my greatest success in terms of getting visitors was a quiz: "Are you addicted to TV?" Forums liked it and people sent it to their friends and compared scores. There were times that I had more traffic to that than my main page, which I was heavily targeting with article marketing.

I know things have changed, but I suspect "quizzes" are still a good marketing tool if they are done well. The other secret I learned is to always find a way to inject a little humor, even a little quirkiness. It's easy to take this writing business way too seriously, especially since we are trained in school to be stiff and formal and crap.

There was one article I wrote many years back that quickly became my most shared article on Ezine Articles: http://ezinearticles.com/?Family-Time:-How-You-Can-Give-Your-Family-the-Gift-of-Time-this-Christmas&id=97767 The thing about this article is that I wrote it super quick. I just thought, "Oh, this would be fun to write!" and pumped it out in less than an hour or so. I didn't think it would be successful, but it was. After that I really tried to interject more humor into my work.
