4 Early Lessons on Becoming a Wealthy Affiliate
Spring, the season of rebirth and new beginnings. It's very apropos that I should start my affiliate marketing journey now.
Since I've been writing for my website, I've done very little journalling. This could be a problem long term because I find journalling necessary for productivity. It keeps my head on straight.. I mention it here because you may find this post to be more like a journal entry.
Yes, it's the name of my website. I had hoped it would be a website focused on living a healthy & fulfilling life after 50, with a focus on beginning & trying new things. A fairly quick keyword research session showed that most of the over 50 crowd aren't looking for that kind of info, so I pivoted to knitting.
I had been avoiding knitting as a niche because I thought there was too much competition. Some engrained, and wrongheaded, childhood programming contributed to my avoidance of the knitting niche as well. Affiliate marketing as healing?? It's possible.
Rituals & My Daily Routine/Schedule
Rituals aren't necessarily religious or spiritual. In the past, I've had morning and nighttime rituals that helped me to be more productive, organized and, at night, helped me to sleep better. I gave up those rituals a long time ago, and so far, going back to them doesn't seem to fit.
My life is very different now. Do I need different rituals? Those long ago rituals developed piece by piece, according to my (then) needs. Perhaps I need to be patient and see what will develop this time.
Persistence & Pacing
As tempting as it's been to plow full steam ahead through the training, my goal is a long term one. Burning out in a month or two or three is NOT part of the plan. So, I've taken days off. I plan on continuing to take days off.
One of my goals it to work only 20 hours/week, or less. Even with the days off, I believe I'm well over 20 hours. That's ok. I'm paying attention to my energy levels, making sure I'm not procrastinating (too much), or over-exerting myself. I am the tortoise.
Perfectionism
Did you know that procrastination is a symptom of perfectionism? It took me a while to see the connection. Now I do.
I've published 4 or 5 posts on my site, but have yet to ask for site feedback because I want to go back & re-write my posts. I've edited them several times, but they're just not right yet.
In case you haven't figured it out, they'll never be quite right. I'm going to have to accept "good enough," sooner or later. Still working on that one...
If you took the time to read this, thank you. I hope you got something out of it.
Cheers!
Karen
