About KimWatson
Joined April 2015
My career experience has been in the field of retail management in the grocery industry. I am up for a challenge and am excited about venturing into something new. My dream is to pursue a writing career without starving to death in the process. I have a great interest in travel, being a travel writer would be ideal. I'm also an avid reader and enjoy writing poetry and fiction.

Sharing my great state of Alaska is another of my online passions. I love to share pictures of Alaska's natural beauty with friends and family, or anyone really. In winter I love to follow Alaska Nanook Hockey and in summer my family loves to camp and fish. I also volunteer for many charitable causes.

OK, what comes next?

Nice to meet you, Kim. I love finding fellow writers on WA! I see that you participated in NaNo this year. How did it go? I'm sure you wrote more than you ever have in such a short amount of time - I know I did when I participated last year. You have some interesting subject matter to explore; Alaska is a beautiful state, I have always wanted to visit!
Reply

Hi! Nice to meet you, too. I made it a two-fold challenge and entered my NaNo piece into another contest, too. I fell short in my word count (ended up in the 37,000 range, not quite to 50,000) My contest piece only had to be 30,000 words. I qualified for that, but didn't win. It was a great experience though, and really showed me where I need to apply myself to the task daily. My trouble was not being able to just write and not revise (as they recommend) I just couldn't leave it alone lol How did you do when you participated?
Reply
RushingBee Premium
I understand, I used to struggle with the inclination to edit, too. I say 'used to' because I have basically gone in the opposite direction lately; I write and write and then never go back to read it again, lol!

NaNo was sort of a bittersweet experience for me. I did complete 50,000 words (partly because I had already been practicing a daily freewriting routine, so I just had to expand my ramblings) but what I ended up with was a whole lot of nothing.

It did help me discover that my problem does not seem to be the number of words I'm getting onto a page... It's more that I'm not developing any kind of plot with the scenes I write.
More than a year and a half later, I am just getting to the point where I can go back to read those scenes and see if there is anything meaningful to be salvaged. Maybe I will find a new sense of direction for it.
I will keep putting down words and moving forward - that's what writing is all about, after all! If only I could convince my characters of that... :/

Hi Kim,

How exciting. I see so many things you can do with your interests and passion.

My hubby and I have our first book up on Amazon Kindle:

"From Airplanes To Burnishers: The Story of One Family's Transition from the Airline Industry to Janitorial Entrepreneurship, With Hints, Tips, and Instructions"

.. it won't make the New York Times Best Seller List, because it is for a very specific market, but putting it together was a great learning experience. I plan to put up a little training on how I did it... I went through a lot of needless information to finally realize it wasn't as hard as some of my sources made it sound. And Amazon never kicked it back at me to make any formatting changes!

So you could write, as you mentioned, you could create photo essays, or write a poem with pictures, and you will do great with creating your online ventures. So many things you have to work with. I am excited for you.

I wish you MUCH happiness and success!

Your friend on this wonderful journey,

Eileen

Hi Kim, so nice of you to add me to your team. I can see you're well on your way with WA in the picture.

Since you're interested in Writing, perhaps you might join some online writer's guild. My son is an aspiring writer and belongs to a few writer's guild himself. He gets his work critiqued and even has fans.

But I think for you fanstory.com might also be useful. They're free to join for life, or be paid members (very affordable) for more useful advantages. God bless you and I pray success for you in all your dreams....

One of the sites he posts to is fanfiction.com. A publisher had actually contacted him and offered to publish his book when he's ready. I suppose these publishers scroll through sites like these for potentials.

Thank you for your interest dear Kim. Blessings.......

HaHaHa! That's for your closing! Adieu, Indeed!

Now something (somewhat) of merit. I enjoyed your "soliloguy" for April! It was REALLY GOOD! But I was surprised that you didn't give a passing nod to dear Emily! Dickenson, I mean. And I've never read anything by ANY of the Bronte sisters, so I know nothing of any poetry, by any of them. I'll had to check that out! So you've managed to add ONE MORE THING to an already overburdened schedule!

And, NO! I'm completely SURPRISED that anybody deigned to assign a month to poetry! I know NOTHING about any poetry celebration! Pray, tell me, is there something that poets DO, to acclaim the month? What you wrote has given me the impression that there's some "subject" that all worthy poets are to apply their craft to? Am I off base? And, if NOT, what IS that subject? But poetry is, for me, very much a solitary pursuit, so I'm not involved with any literary groups, or individuals who travel in those circles.

And, are you a disciple of e. e. cummings? I ask, because of your "failure" to use any capitalization, in your Haiku? As you can tell, from my messages, I have NO GRUDGE against capitals, or capitalization! And it has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with "EGO", as I suspect it did, in his case. But that was nice, TOO! I think you have acquired MORE than your FAIR SHARE, of ability!

And, since somebody has turned on their musical device - loud enough for me to hear, but I WILL FORGIVE THEM, as they are playing "At Last"! And NOT the sister come lately, Beyounce's version, but THE ORIGINAL, Etta James' version! I have an ingrained disdain for "followers", in that sense. Very rarely do I ENJOY somebody's REMAKE of some other's worthy work. I know that sounds snobbish of me. And it is! I'll admit! But, if the new individual creates an ENTIRELY NEW INTERPRETATION of the earlier work, then, I AM prepared to accept the NEW creation. And, since I'm on music, I'll give you two examples from the music category. Earth, Wind, & Fire'd version of the Beatle's song, "Got To Get You Into My Life"! Actually, I PREFER Earth, Wind, & Fire's version, to the Beatle's version! And then, there's The Door's song, "Light My Fire". I like their ORIGINAL version (it was written by one of the members of the group) very much. But Another singer/guitarist did another accoustic interpretation of that song, that I DO LIKE better than the original. His name is Jose Faliciano, and, if you get the RIGHT VERSION of his interpretation, it's in a class by itself! But I've also heard OTHER recorded renditions of his, of that song, that, as far as I'm concerned, he shouldn't have squandered his recording time on! But, if you get the RIGHT VERSION, he lifts that song into a COMPLETELY NEW emotional level. So do you have any "RELATION" to music? I mean SOMETHING MORE than a "pleasant bachgroud" noise? If so, that CAN provide a whole OTHER TOPIC we can SHARE!

But, back to poetry (well, songs ARE poems, come to think about it), I see you ARE familiar with "The Jabberwocky", as I suspected you would be! And, thank you, for reminding me who wrote it, AS WELL AS correcting my spelling, of the name. Actually, I suspect you were familiar with every poem I mentioned, except McCauley's "Lays Of Ancient Rome" (The verse "For how can men die better; Than when facing fearful odds; For the ashes of their fathers; And the temples of their Gods). It's NOT really a "feminine" work. (If a poem can be said to appeal to one sex, over the other.) It's not something that many people read, these days. The only one I thought you MIGHT NOT know, was Rudyard Kipling's "If". And that's why I calles him "Mr. Kipling" when I referred to that poem, later on, in my message. (I didn't want to use his first name, as I used it for a reference/clue, in my opening question. And, just in case you don't know, and are curious about it, Kipling wrote a story entitled "Kim", which is the ORIGIN of my question. "KIM" was modeled on a REAL LIFE person. He was a native Indian (NOT American aborigine, but a native of India), who was used as a spy, by the English, while Kipling was involved, doing the "Queen's Business", there, in the mid 1800's. And, because he was a spy, and therefore the "BEARER" of much esoteric knowledge, and bore YOUR NAME, I picked him, and crafted my question from THAT knowledge. Most people are familiar with him, because of "The Jungle Book", (which was a compulation of Indian "Folk Stories/Mythology") which Walt Disney's made into an animated movie. But I can't think of a person I know, other than myself, who has EVER READ any of his works. Which brings up ANOTHER possible topic! Are you a reader, as well as a poet? We could talk books as well! I used to have a friend that said that he'd NEVER SEEN ME - WITHOUT a book in my hand! I don't read as much as I used to. I just don't have the time, any more. And, so much is available, on the net, today, that I'm likely to go there, first.

Oh! I haven't mentioned your rewrite of Frost! I'm IMPRESSED! The only time I've EVER tried to adapt someone else's work, was when I re-wrote "T'was The Night Before Christmas" for a VERY SMALL, and EXCLUSIVE " newspaper (if it can be called that). And I was amused to find out years later, by accident, that they WERE STILL using it, in their Christmas edition. I don't have a copy of that one, any more. Maybe I can contact them, and recover a copy of it? I'm inclined to believe that imposing SOMEONE ELSE"S form, on YOUR poem, would be more difficult, than writing your own. But, from my experience with "T'was The Night Before Christmas", I have no basis for that belief. But Frost's rhyme scheme, in "The RoadNot Taken" is NOT a simple one! Like I said, I'm IMPRESSED! But I noticed you didn't mention "Sleigh Ride On A Snowy Evening". If that's because you're not familiar with it, I CAN'T recomend it enough! As I said, it opened up my "CONCEPT" of poetry! What it COULD BE! How language could be MANIPULATED, in ways that will TRANSCENDED the words!

And, since you're a poet, I'm going to tell you a story (that I probaly shouldn't), so you'll be able to understand what follows.

Many years back, I got myself sentenced to prison (It was drug related, and I haven't done any drugs in 7 years, now, but I DID do some prison time for it) And, having been in the drug world, for many years PRIOR to that, I DIDN'T have a cadre of "friends" that would stand by me, during that time. So it was a very lonesome time, for me. So, I reached out to various people, through the ald of some other prisoners. But you know, not many people are writers (letter writers, not poets or story tellers), so I thought about how I should present myself, to people who DIDN'T KNOW ME, and had ABSOLITELY NO REASON to take time from THEIR LIVES, to write to SOME "PRISONER". And, since I grew up as a fisherman, I'll use a "FISHING" analogy. HOW was I going to HOOK, these people? What kind of "BAIT" should I use, if I hoped to HOOK those FISH? Well, my thoughts turned to, "I've GOT TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF BAIT, that STANDS OUT, in that person's mind. Something that SIEZES THEIR ATTENTION, and makes them "THINK", "Hey! This guy is INTERESTING!" Without THAT, I figured I was dead in the water. Now, I like to think that I have SOME ABILITY with the English language! But, no matter HOW WELL CRAFTED, a letter WAS, it was STILL only a letter! And letters just WEREN'T something that "GRABBED" a person. So, my OTHER alternative, was to write them a poem. It's NOT EVERYDAY you get a poem! And even rarer to get one written TO YOU, and witten FOR YOU! So, I decided that the only way I'd have any LUCK on this fishing exposition, was to have a very SPECIAL POEM, for my bait. And it had to be a poem TO THE PERSON, SPECIFICALLY! But, AT THE SAME TIME, it had to be a poem TO EVERYBODY! Because I didn't want to have to write A BRAND NEW POEM, any time I talked one of the guys into setting me up to write someone! AND, since I wouldn't KNOW ANYTHING about the person I was writing, and it was ME, that I wanted to be The HOOK, that GOT STUCK in THEIR MIND, I needed to MAKE MYSELF an IRRISISTABLE LURE to them, in this poem. So, those were the parameters I was working with. Well, as you've already seen, I CAN BE quite loquacious, at times. And I just DIDN'T THINK some kind of "Roses Are red. Violets are blue" kind of poetry was going to do, for bait. And, what does EVERYBODY KNOW, about prisoners? They're BORED out of their minds! Somebody tells them when to get up! When to go to bed! When to eat! When to wash their clorhes! What clothes to wear! WHEN! Ad nauseum! And, that was "The REASON" I was writing the letter, ANYWAY! So, I had my starting point! But, how do you make BORED OUT OF YOUR MIND, into something that would GRAB somebody's attention? Hell of a delemma! So, what you're about to see, is MY ANSWER to THAT problem! But, before you get to read, there's SOMETHING ELSE I need to tell you. REMEMBER, I'm in prison! So, there AREN'T any computers AVAILABLE, for me to type this poem into, and just copy and paste it, like I can with you. This was ALL going to have to be written out LONG HAND! So, now, you get to read the FIRST ITERATION of "The POEM!" (And, maybe I should tell you that I've UPDATED it, now, with a COMPUTER email, in place of the LETTER! But you're getting the "LETTER" version. And, I should probably ALSO tell you, that I DEAL WITH EVERYTHING in my life, from a PHILOSOPHICAL perspective, so don't let the ending throw you!)

Looking For You

It's just
Another passing day
Perhaps you too
Feel just this way
In boredom's thrall
Our lives march on
And as the days
Have come and gone
Dissatisfaction's
Been out lot
With what we have
And haven't got
And
While we wait
We'll breathe a sigh
And
Sitting there
We'll wonder why
Now
If my little rhyme rings true
I'll tell you, friend
Here's what you do
Just grab your pen
And take some time
To write some words
There on the line
Then send them off
Right here to me
And pretty soon
You're bound to see
The mailman
Coming at your door
With words of cheer
And so much more
Adventure waits
Upon your note
And you will be
So glad you wrote
So
If you'd like to change your fate
I tell you, friend
Don't hesitate
Just take the time
To write to me
Then just sit back
And soon you'll see
That everyday
As dawn breaks through
You'll have a sense
Of wonder, too
In all the minutes
Of your day
And joy
In all you do and say
You'll find you laugh
When you recall
Some line I wrote
About some fall
I took
When I was just a lad
And how
Though I was hurting bad
The only thought
That filled my brain
Was
How would I
That fall, explain
Could I get down
On bended knee
And tell my mom
"It wasn't me!"
No ma'am", I'd say
"The Martians came!
I fought the off!
But now I'm lame!
And so
You shouldn't punish me!
It's not my fault
I hope you see!
You ought to blame
The President!
It was for him
That they were sent!
I didn't ask
To have that fight!
I tell you, mom
It's just not right!"
I'll tell you tales
And swear they're true
About
How I lived in a zoo
With monkeys
Pigs
And Grizzly Bear
I SWEAR IT'S TRUE
I STILL live there
I'll make you laugh
I'll touch your heart
And that
My friend
Is just the start
You see
I'm NOT your average guy
I dare to dream
I laugh
I cry
I don't put on a face
You see
To be someone
Who isn't me
So
What you see
Is
What you get
So
Now I ask
"You ain't wrote yet?
Get on your job!
You loafer, you!
Write out a page
Or maybe two!
Then send them off
To where I'm at!
You think that you
Can handle that?"
So as my rhyme
Comes to an end
There's just one thing
My new found friend
That I will say
Before I go
There's one last thing
For you to know
If you should die
Before you wake
Well then
My friend
'twould be too late
If you don't write
And take this chance
If you don't try
To learn this dance
Your life
Will surely pass you by
And when it comes
Your turn to die
Your mind will be
Filled with regret
For all you hadn't done
As yet
But while you live
It's not too late
Today
Is just the starting gate
So live your life
As if today
Was your last chance
To laugh and play
Come on
My friend
Let's sing a song
For here's your chance
To dance along
To live your life
In such a way
That you'll enjoy
Most everyday
Then
When it comes your turn to die
You won't think back
And wonder why
You didn't take
The chance you had
And so
My friend
You won't be sad
You'll smile
And say
"You know, my friend
We had some times
Once
Way back when
I still recall
The times we had
And friend
You know
Life ain't half bad
As long as it's
Filled up with friends
The joy of life
It never ends
I'm glad I took
The time to write
You know
Those times were out of sight
I'm glad
For all the times we've shared
For all those times
When you were there
For all those things
That you did give
That made my life
A joy to live
And
As this life comes to an end
For all those things
I thank you
Friend !"

Okay! THAT was MY IDEA of making myself INTERESTING, to someone who had never even laid eyes on me. But, as I said, this was all WRITTEN OUT LONG HAND! So, after having to write this whole thing out 4 or 5 TIMES! I decided that, "Nobody's interested in PHILOSOPHY, ANYWAY!" And, to make writing it out, MANAGEABLE, I lopped the whole philosophical ending off! And, it mutated into this.

Looking For You

It's

My new found friend!
Just send a note
Right here to me
That's all it takes
To set me free!

The SECOND iteration! MUCH SHORTER to have to write out, long hand! RIGHT? Well, after having out THIS VERSION, another 4 or 5 times, I decided that THIS ONE was TOO MUCH to have to keep writing out, TOO! (It's shorter, but DEFINITELY NOT short!) So I said to myself, "$^%# this! I've GOT TO TRASH THIS POEM! And write one that's SHORT, ABOVE ALL ELSE!" So, I set myself the task of writing one that was MANAGEABLE - to REwrite out, long hand! So, now you get to see how THAT turned out! And, actually, when you see all three together, like you're seeing them, you'll realize that ALL THREE are the VERY SAME POEM! The two you've just read, you could tell that they were the same poem, if you read them years apart! But this LAST (I hope) version is such a RADICAL REWRITE, that if you DON'T see them all together, you'd never think that they were related, in anything other than topic! It's SO DIFFERENT, I decided it needed a NEW name! But, again, if you look at ALL THREE, you'll find that EVERYTHING in this THIRD iteration, can be found in the other two versions! Even the first line! Which is the ONLY THING that might give someone a clue that all three are, IN FACT, the same poem!

Let's Have Some "Fun"!

It's just
Another passing day.
I swear
Sometimes, I feel that way.
I feel my life's
A waste of time.
My hours spent
Just writing rhyme.
I sit here, now
In boredom's thrall.
And ask myself
"Can this be all?"
I wonder if
It might be true
That others
Have this feeling, too
If so
Might they be looking for
Some way
To make their lives mean more
Well,
If this strikes a chord in you
Then friend
There's just one thing to do
If you
Would like to change your fate
Just contact me
Don't hesitate
And soon
We'll start to have some fun
For two
Can do much more than one!

So, whadaya think? THAT ONE, I can write out! But, being a poet, yourself, and BEING ABLE TO SEE ALL THREE TOGETHER, makes it easy to see that they're ALL the very same poem. And, it's because I thought that you, as a poet, might enjoy seeing the caterpillar turn into a butterfly, that I've sent you all three variations of this poem. If it was TOO MUCH, I'm sorry. I just thought that you'd "APPRECIATE" seeing the "EVOLUTION" of the poem. From "CONCEPT" (which is why I told you the story BEHIND the poem), to HOPEFULLY, the LAST version!

Well, Kim, before I hi-jack your WHOLE DAY, let me say "Adieu": -)

And, if you find some time tomorrow, or in the next few days, stop by my page. I've installed a new poem, there. The one I WAS going to send you, today. But, you message interdicted that plan. But, believe me, I DO write SHORT poems, SOMETIMES! I'll try to kep them to a minimum, from now on. : -) J

I actually sent you this same message, as a response to your most recent message, and poems! But I get frustrated that when I insert a poem in my letter, on my page. Everything gets shoved over to the lift hand margin, which DESTROYS "MY" format, for the poem. So I came here, to send it to you from her, in the hope that doing so, will retain MY formating. So, PLEASE, let me know if it's all over on the left hand margin, or not, OKAY?

You are correct, I may need a whole day to digest all this. The metamorphosis was excellent in your poetry. I appreciate you sharing the entire story with me. I think our past can be important, because it influences who we have become, but certainly it is never an insurmountable thing or something to be judged.

I actually DID know of Rudyard Kipling's story, "Kim". :) One of his works that has always stayed with me is, "Riki Tiki Tavi." Are you familiar? And, of course, I know, "The Jungle Book."

Ok, you asked about Emily... dear Emily, I feel like she is an old friend. (Insert poem here lol) Ok, let me go to my portfolio for that. In the meantime, you should check this out... http://www.napowrimo.net/
That will acquaint you with National Poetry Month. :)

Quoting Emily Dickinson's "There Is No Frigate Like A Book" and "Dear March - Come in"

Conversing with Emily

"There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry -
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll -
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul."

Within today's economy
Vacation is a luxury
Many will ill afford;
When pressures of the day to day
I find a need to melt away
And seek a just reward,
To steal away to sunny nook
Lost in the pages of a book
I see the world anew,
Transported there by poetry,
I've spent the day with Emily,
Enraptured by her view.

"Who knocks? That April -
Lock the Door -
I will not be pursued -
He stayed away a Year to call
When I am occupied -
But trifles look so trivial
As soon as you have come"

A quirk that now we celebrate
The April that had come too late
To call on Emily,
Spark lights the fuse, itself imbues,
Let daily write nourish the muse,
Inspire poetry.

Can you do confessions in Poetry? lol :) You did, and so will I. Especially since you asked about music... so I chose this one, let me tell you why. I wrote this a very long time ago, and fancied it a song. I actually wrote it in my head while on a several mile walk across town, singing it over and over to myself, to get the words right with the melody in my head. It is the one and only song I've ever tried to write. I'm not even sure it is good lol I'll let you be the judge of that. So, I wrote it for someone very famous, an actor who is also the member of a band called, Dogstar, because it was what I envisioned he needed (by way of what you read in the media) in his life at the time, and I tried to write it from his perspective. Is that too much? lol It seems a bit silly now, but I was very serious about it at the time. I wrote it around his birthday, and actually submitted it to his band, via a website address that I found. Of course, I never heard anything from that, but for me, it was enough to share what I had written, on the remote chance that he might see it and it could change his day. Presumptuous? Maybe, but looking back, I think I'm happier with that decision based on the fact that I mustered up the courage to send it in the first place. Ok, without further delay...

Elusive

Sometimes, when the world's been too much,
and I feel so all alone.
I sit on the couch, staring out the window,
wishing you were home.

I gaze into the darkness,
afraid of what I'll find.
Afraid to close my eyes at night,
as you trespass in my mind.
Dancing to that haunting song,
that only we can hear.
I kiss the smile upon your lips,
and whisper in your ear.
Why must you elude me,
when I plead with you to stay?
Why must dreams fade to reality,
when touched by light of day?

Sometimes, when the world's been too much,
and I feel so all alone.
I sit on the couch, staring out the window,
wishing you were home.

One day I'll get to hold you,
and break this lonely spell.
Your pledge of love will warm my heart,
and release me from my Hell.
I know this now, without a doubt,
you're the one I'm searching for.
The window's closed, the couch is gone,
I'm walking out that door.
Come, my elusive one,
step from the shadows of the night.
Together, hand in hand,
we'll walk into the light.

What else were we discussing? Oh yes... Google Emily Bronte, her most famous work, of course, is Wuthering Heights, however, she was also a poet in her own right. Her sense of setting and tone give her writing qualities few may ever surpass. If you get the time to check her out, tell me what you think.

You mentioned The Doors... I will imagine that means that you are aware that Jim Morrison was also a poet? More confessions... I was adopted when I was only 3 days old. As a teen with an overactive imagination, I managed to make up a scenario in my head that I could possibly have been the daughter of Jim Morrison lol Ever read the book, "No One Here Gets Out Alive?" It was my fancy of the time.

Oh, the mention of haiku, as an aside to the conversation. Traditional haiku has no capitalizations and tends not to even have elements such as names of places that would normally be capitalized. (No ee cummings syndrome here lol)

Ok, back to music. My ideal "writing music" is the Soundtrack for "The Last of the Mohicans." (The Daniel Day Lewis version of the movie.) If you have never seen it, I must insist that you do. :) Perhaps because I am a woman, this has great impact for me. Intertwined in this movie are two separate love stories, along with the traditional plot. The first is obvious enough, the second is done entirely through the music. I cannot begin to tell you what an impact that was for me. If I can ever convey that in my writing, it will be the epitome for my accomplishments. Ever watch something in a movie you wish you had written? That is a moment for me. I have others, but will save that for another time. I can also write with almost any 80's rock playing in the background, so go figure. :) I was an 80's teen!

I will end with Mr. Frost. I love poetry, but have only a handful of anthologies of complete works or semi complete works. Upon my bookshelf you will find the works of Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare, Robert Service, Emily Bronte, and Louisa Mae Alcott. I have four favorites by Frost, almost too hard to make a distinction. "Nature's First Green Is Gold," "Birches," "The Road Not Taken," and "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening."

I don't mind the long conversations on our profile pages, but it may not really be of interest to the rest of the community. If you would rather send these replies by way of private messages instead, that is permissible.

I think bedtime has come and gone now, so I will bid you goodnight. If I missed any of the topics in your reply, chalk it up to the late hour. I think I've just spent an hour typing this reply, and am very happy to have spent my hour in such a manner.

Good night,

Kim

Hi Kim

Reading your messages, has ALREADY become a "Highlight" of my days!

You'll have to forgive me, but THIS is going to be a "Shotgun" shot, and NOT a dagger's thrust! I haven't even FINISHED your litter, YET!
But something said DEMANDED a response! So, HEADLONG, let me CHARGE INTO THE FUTURE!

In your paragraph AFTER Emily, were you're talking about a "song" you wrote (We''ll get to THAT - in DUE TIME!), you make the statement,

"It is the one and only song I've ever tried to write. I'm not even sure it is good lol I'll let you be the judge of that."

Here's MY RESPONSE, to THAT! I REALLY don't know a thing about "WHO" you are! HOW you "SEE" life! Your DREAMS, or your REGRETS. And I KNOW, and ACCEPT, that "I" will NEVER BE any John Q, Public! (If you EVER want to insult ME! Call me "NORMAL"!)
So THIS is what "I" tell YOU, about what YOU WROTE!

I'd rather TRY, and FAIL! Than FAIL to TRY!

MY "OPINION", of ANYTHING "YOU" DO! Is "RELEVANT" to NOTHING! The ONLY opinion, that MATTERS, that is RELEVANT, to ANYTHING "YOU" DO! Is YOURS! Here's ANOTHER "INKLING" of "MY" thoughts! The ONLY person I'm EVER in "COMPETITION" WITH - is the "ME" - of YESTERDAY!

Oay. I'm off my soap box. Let me go back, and finish reading your message!

OPPS! I'M BACK! In the SAME paragraph, you say,

"Presumptuous? Maybe . . ."

It's the "PRESUMPTUOUS", that DARE!
And it's those who DARE - that TRIUMPTH!
And it's those who TRIUMPTH - that enter HUMAN MYTHOLOGY!

I have ALWAYS, as a "Human", felt that it was MY RIGHT - to PRESUME! Good ol' Tom (as in JEFFERSON) may have said that my rights were "Life, Liberty, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS"! But I've ALWAYS "PRESUMED" that MY "PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" - GAVE ME THE "RIGHT" TO PRESUME! PLEASE! Don't EVER "PRESUME", that "PRESUMPTUOUSNESS" is a "BAD" QUALITY to have. Don't EVER think you don't have the "RIGHT" to "swing the bat", at ANY PITCH "YOU" THINK you can hit! You may NOT hit it! You MAY strike out! But DON'T EVER LET THAT STOP YOU - from going up to bat - NEXT INNING! AGAIN,

The PRESUMPTUOUS - DARE!
Those who DARE - TRIUMPTH!
Those who triumpth - AFFECT ALL HUMANITY!
And, GOOD, or BAD, THEY are the ones WE REMEMBER!

Now, DON'T THINK that all who dare - triumpth! But ALL WHO TRIUMPTH - DARE!

I only have ONE "Pet Peeve"! And THAT "Pet Peeve" is "People", who "I" call the "Willfully Ignorant"! What is a "Willfully Ignorant" person? I'm GLAD you asked! The "Willfully Ignorant" are those people who "Don't Know" - NOT - because they CAN'T LEARN! It's those who "Don't Know" - because they DON'T "WANT TO LEARN"!!!!!! It might upset their week in Tahiti! Or, they might have to give up their Bemmer! Or, give up their Hummer, in favor of a Prius, for the "GOOD" of the world! Who cares about the world, in twenty years, ANYWAY? "I" won't be here! Let somebody ELSE worry about that "STUFF"! One of the "Trademarks" of the "Willfully Ignorant", is what "I" call - The "I, ME, MINE syndrome"!

Boy, Kim, you've caught me in "Rare From", today! ALL this, is NOT something that I USUALLY "Share" with anybody! MY "OPINIONS" - of ANY THING/PERSON - has NO RELEVANCE - to ANYBODY - EXCEPT me! So I don't usually say anything about ANY of this stuff. To anybody! Maybe, because of your poetry, I "FEEL" a KINDRED SPIRIT, in you! Please, forgive me these "outbursts". It's "PRESUMPTUOUS" of ME, to tell you ANY of this. Everything I've said, SO FAR, "MATTERS" - ONLY to me.

I'll try to stick to your letter.

Alright, "Elusive"!

PLEASE, as one poet, to another, allow me some "Poetic License". I REALLY LIKE some of your imagery! But, maybe, you'll get a clearer "picture" of me, from reading HOW "I" would write YOUR poem!

Elusive

Sometimes
When the world's been much too much
And I start to feel alone
I'll sit on my couch
I'll look out my window
And I'll wish
That you were home

I'll gaze into the darkness
Afraid of what I'll find
I'm afraid to close my eyes at night
And let you tresspass
Through my mind

Dancing
To that haunting song
That only we can hear
I'll kiss the smile upon your lips
And I'll whisper
In your ear

Why must you always leave me
When I plead with you
To stay
Why must dreams
Fade from reality
When touched
By the light of day

Sometimes
When the world's been much too much
And I start to feel alone
I'll sit on my couch
I'll look out my window
And I'll wish
That you were home

One day
I'll get to hold you
One day
I'll break this lonely spell
And you
Will pledge to love me
Releasing me
From hell

I know this
Now
And I am sure
Beyond the shadow of a doubt
You ARE the one
I'm searching for
You're what my life's about

But
Even though I love you
I can't take this
Any more
So my window's closed
And my couch is gone
And I'm walking out my door

Come here
To me
My elusive one
Step from the depths of night
Come
Join me now
And let us walk
Together
Into the morning's light

Now THAT, was "presumptuous"! And I'm NOT "Satisfied" with it, the way it stands. But WHO KNOWS how long it would take me, before I was TRULY "SATISFIED" with MY version. And I want to finish with your message, BEFORE next year! And, of course, I'd put it in MY format! But I can't do that, here. The computer just shoves everything against the lefthand margin! As much as possible, I tried to keep YOUR words, but that's a quick "Once over", of how "I" would phrase YOUR phrases. But I REALLY LIKE your imagery! Especially "I gaze into the darkness; Afraid of what I'll find; Afraid to close my eyes at night; As you tresspass in my mind". I know! I changed it! But that's what poets do! Fiddle with their phrases! And I REALLY DO think it would be "BETTER", if you changed "As you tresspass in my mind", to "And let you tresspass in my mind", or "And let you tresspass through my mind". But it's NOT "MY" poem! It's YOURS! So don't change ANYTHING!

But let me tell you what I meant, when I said "We'll get to THAT!", when I was commenting (ranting) on YOUR coment about letting ME decide whether "I" thought your "SONG" was any good.

I've had this "fragment" laying around, for years! I was thinking about a certain aspect nof MY LIFE, and THIS popped out!

I'm just a good ol' country boy
Who's been all around the world
And now I've found that all I want
Is a good ol' country girl

Who'll help me move my life along
Who'll help me sing my wayward song
Who'll help me otil my life's all gone
Then I'll be on my own

Now, it was, and IS, true, as applied to me (I told you MY POETRY is ALMOST always "personal"). But I couldn't "GET" any more! And, because of the second "verse", it WASN'T my idea of, a "poem". But, while I was studying it, trying to work out some more, it occured to me, that what I had, with the second verse, was A CHORUS! And THAT took me aback! I'd NEVER written a "SONG", before! I'd thought about it, and tried writing a song, before! But I'd NEVER been able to "WORK OUT" a chorus! A REPEATING "VERSE", before! So I was SHOCKED to "SEE" it, as a chorus! But the realization that the second verse was actually a CHORUS, turned me to looking at it as SONG! But I STILL couldn't work any MORE, out of it. I LIKED what it said, because it WAS what I FELT! But, after a coupleof days of NOTHING, I tossed it in my "scrap" heap. And, over the next 4 or 5 years, I happen upon this scrap, and tried to work out some more of it. But I just COULDN'T GO anywhere with it! But, a couple of days ago, I went to this woman's profile page, to write read her profile, and write her a "Happy to meet you! And, thanks for following me!" blurb. And, right there, in her profile, she was saying SHE WAS a "Country Girl"! Well, having this scrap in the recesses of my mind, up it popped! And I thought, "What the hell! Why not?" So, I tossed this scrap, into my message to her. And said that "If anything occured to her, write and tell me. I didn't expect anything to come of it! But, hell, who knows? You take "flyers" like that, when you can't do anything with something. Well, she wrote me back, but she said she couldn't think of anything, either! But she liked what I had. Now, the only reason I'm telling you all this, Kim, is that THIS is the ONLY EXPLANATION I can think of, why this scrap was floating around in my mind! Anyway, for WHATEVER REASON, as I turned off my lights, and crawled into bed, this fragment started to flop around, in my head! And, how, or why, I'll NEVER KNOW, but VERSES, NOT phrases, but WHOLE LINES started coming to me! And those "lines" were turning into verses! Which startled the you know what out of me! So, in less than 10 minutes AFTER I turned out the lights, I was turning them back on! Grabing pen and paper, I started writing things down, as fast as I could! And, in a span of 10 monutes, or so, I had 4 more verses roughed out! I had scrawl spread all over front AND BACK, of a college lined notebook page! Now, I've had some DISDAIN, for song lyrics, because the writers OFTEN, don't really RHYME all their lines! And they often let the music overcome their lack of meter, as well! Now, with Free Verse, none of that matters! But, with RHYMING poetry, it's of the upmost importance! At least, it is, to MY concept of rhyming poetry! Which is why I came to disdain LYRICS, and LYRIC writers! But THIS is my basic 5 verses, to this SONG! As a poem, it's nowhere NEAR, being good! The rhymes are so - so. But the meter flops around like a dying fish! So, as a POEM, I think it STINKS! But it's NOT A POEM! It's a SONG! And I can let THE MUSIC handle the meter! So, YOU, talking to ME, about your ONLY SONG, TODAY, SCREAMS "SYNCRONICITY" and "SERENDIPITY", to me! So I want to share it WITH YOU! Now, like I said, it's ROUGH around the edges! But I INVITE YOU! Do ANYTHING with what I have! Say ANYTHING about what I have! I'm prepared to HEAR ANYTHING, about this "SONG", just to get the thing out of my SCRAP HEAP! And out of MY MIND! This thing's been laying around FOR AGES! I'm MORE THAN READY to be done, with this "THING"! So, here's what I've got!

I'm just a good ol' country boy
Who's been all around the world
And now I find that all I want
Is a good ol' country girl

To help me move my life along
To help me sing my wayward song
To be with me, 'til my lifes all gone
Then I'll be on my own

Don't want a girl who can't bait her hook
Don't want a girl who never learned to cook
Don't want a girl who can't read my look
And know me, like she wrote the book

Who'll help me move my life along
Who'll help me sing my wayward song
Who'll be with me, 'til my life's all gone
Then I'll be on my own

I just want a girl who'll hold my hand
Who'll share my life, and understand
She'll be my wife, and I'll be her man
Just us together, and the world be damned

She'll help me move my life along
She'll help me sing my wayward song
She'll be with me, 'til my life's all gone
Then I'll be on my own

We'll share sunsets, sitting in our front porch swing
We'll share the chirping song, that the crickets sing
We'll share kisses 'til I'm hearing church bells ring
We'll share all of these, and other things

She'll help me move my life along
She'll help me sing my wayward song
She'll be with me, 'til my life's all gone
Then I'll be on my own

We'll share all that comes on our life's tides
And when the Angels call me to the other side
I'll be waiting there with my arms held wide
For the girl that I asked to become my bride

She'll help me move my life along
She'll help me sing my wayward song
She'll share my life, 'til my life's all gone
Then I'll be on my own

Of course, it IS a"Country" song! COULDN'T "BE" anything else! So, LOOK IT OVER! WORK IT OVER! DO anything you want! SAY anything you want! And ship the whole shabang back, when YOU'RE as feed up with working on it, as "I" AM! So! Now you KNOW why I said "We'll get to THAT, in moment!"

And you've given me a Soft, Chuckling Smile! I just FINALLY finished READING ALL of your letter! Your first line, of your LAST paragraph says, "I think bedtime has come, and gone, now . . ." That's the one thay gave me the chuckle! As I read that, I glanced at my computer's clock! It reads 1:50 - AM! So, YES! I AGREE! BEDTIME has DEFINITELY "Come! And GONE!" But I want to get this ALL in one message, so you'll have my WHOLE REPLY to your message, in one piece. Like YOUR message is.

But I WILL try to cover the rest - QUICKLY!

About Bronte, if I can ever find the time, I will! I ALREADY respect YOU! And your POETRY! And am WILLING TO CONCEDE to your opinion, concerning whether a poem, or poet, has merit!

The "Doors"! Yes! I KNOW about Jim Morrison! And his poetry! But HE'S NOT responsible for ALL "The Doors" lyrics! And he's WAS NEVER the "musical" leader of the group! And the first song, that brought them any notice, in the musical world, "Light My Fire", was penned by Ray Manzeric (sp?), the organist of the band! And, "No One Here Gets Out Alive", sets off some awareness bells! So, I'm SURE I know OF it, but I DON'T recall reading it, specifically.

And, THANK YOU, for the info, about Haiku! I WASN'T aware of that!

I HAVE seen "The Last Of The Mohicans", but I DON'T know who's version it was. But I DO have a MUSICAL SONG that I WISH "I" had written! It's from the play, musical "The Man From La Mancha"! It's the song that Don Quixote sings, when he's tells this SCOFFER wonders WHY Don Quixote is doing what he's doing! The songs name is "The Impossible Dream". If you're NOT familiar with the song, take a couple of minutes, and go to youtube, and enter "The Impossible Dream" in their search window, and you'll bepresented with a MULTITUDE of choices, to listen to. But the ORIGINAL version, is on the "Man From La Mancha" soundtrack album! But the song that had the BIGGEST impact, on me, and my life, dates back to the 50's! The name of the song, is "Take 5", and it was played/recorded by "The Dave Brubeck Quartet" (it's a jazz instrumental, no words). Give THAT ONE a listen, too! It's old, but it sounds just as new and fresh, today, as when it first recorded.

And I applaud your choice of poets! I was VERY HAPPY that you included America's PREEMINENT Wordsmith, Mr. Poe, among your choices! And that you include BOTH of my Robert Frost poems, among you favorites!

Whose woods are these
I think I know
His house is in the village, though . . .

And you might be right, about confining our messages to PRIVATE messags! But, I'm NOT SURE how to do that.

And, YES! It IS time for bed! But I DO enjoy your poetry, and your knowledge of things! And hope there are MANY MORE conversations, to enjoy!

But, let me leave, with a poem. And, since you sent me, what is basically a love poem, let me return the favor! I THINK my romantic poetry is a little to "STERILE", for most people. It's too "Intellectual".NOt as "Emotional". But it is, what it is. So, as a woman, would you give me an idea how, or if, a woman would respond to this?

YOU

All my life
I've hoped
And hunted
For that special someone
That would fulfill my life

That complimenary person
Who would make me feel
Complete
A unified whole

I've dreamed of
And desired
That person
A million times

I've imagined
What they would look like
Sound like

How they would be

Until I finally despaired
Of ever really meeting them

Todays
Came and went

Tomorrows
Became yesterdays

And all my hopes
Became as dust
Blown away
By the winds of time

I stopped looking
Stopped hoping
Let go of all my dreams

And walked listlessly
Through a gray world
Dull days
Of an unfulling life

I wondered
Could this be all there is
To life

Then
I met you

And I don't know exactly why
Or how

What you did
Or what you said

But suddenly
There was color in my world
Again

Joy
In waking up

Anticipation
Of the moments
Of a no longer dull day

I hoped
And I dreamed
Desire was reborn
In my mind
And in my heart

My hopes
My dreams
My desires
All these things
Were centered on you

I don't know
That I can explain it
I'm not sure
That I want to try

I don't think
That it really matters

What matters
Is you

You're the key
That starts my motor
You're the reason
For my living each day

I wake up
To thoughts of you

And sleeping
You fill my dreams

And I just thought
I ought to tell you

That you
Might like to know

I LOVE YOU

Welll Kim,there you have one of MY attempts at to write a Love Letter.

And I got so tired, looking for it, list night, that I ended up going to sleep, and noe it's Tuesday afternoon. So, now that I've found and added the poem, let me get it iff to you, anf maybe I'll be able to actually so a little work towards building my website.

Bye now! Take care, and God bless you, and yours!

Hi :) I have all sorts of things in the works today, and need to run out the door. So, you are getting a quick reply, to promise a real reply later! lol See the envelope at the top of your screen, next to the airplane, people, world, pen, rank, and profile image? That envelope is how you send a private message. :) I will talk to you soon!

Hi Kim

No problem, about not being able to send me a complete reply! If ANYONE can understand not having all the time you need to get everything done, that needs doing, it's ME! And, as you see, I've managed to figure out that I can reach you by clicking on your icon. But I still haven't figured out how I supposed to address PRIVATE mail, to anybody. So you're going to have to explain THAT ONE! So, bye, for now! Hope you're having a fun day watching the polar bears amble through the flowers! : -) And MAYBE, just MAYBE, I can actually get something done, towards building a website, today!

Ok, I got it now! lol My Dad watches that show. :) One of the shows I enjoy the most about Alaska is called, "Buying Alaska", where a family is shown three properties by a realtor and they choose one to buy. You get to some very unique properties and some amazing homes, along with other tidbits about the area where they are looking to buy their homes.

Let's Have Some Fun!

It's just
Another passing day.
I swear
Sometimes, I feel that way.
I feel my life's
A waste of time.
My hours spent
Just writing rhyme.
I sit here, now
In boredom's thrall.
And ask myself
"Can this be all?"
I wonder if
It might be true
That others
Have this feeling, too
If so
Might they be looking for
Some way
To make their lives mean more
Well,
If this strikes a chord in you
Then friend
There's just one thing to do
If you
Would like to change your fate
Just contact me
Don't hesitate
And soon
We'll start to have some fun
For two
Can do much more than one!

Hidden secrets for success ??? Hmmmm.

Oh, oh, I know, I know ... send me money !!!

I've been a webmaster since 2004 and what took a couple of years to accomplish you will do in months. WA wasn't around back then so I learned everything from scratch. Lots of trial and error. LOTS of error. If there was a wrong thing to do then I could find it. Had WA been around when I started then I'd be living in my new villa in Greece sipping on Margaritas right now. (I don't even know if I like Margaritas)

My first year selling online in 2005, I made $6,000.00 and my second year I made $30,000.00, got the tax returns to prove it.

My point is that they say Rome wasn't built in a day and you will not be a success overnight. It takes patience and persistence to make it in any endeavor. I have the Internet scars and bruises to prove it.

Latch on to your online dreams like a pit bull and never let go. Those are the people who make it.

That is great advice, Mike! Just to know that it is possible to make this work is very encouraging. I'm looking forward to the journey. I appreciate your help, thanks!!
