Success is a beautiful thing if there wouldn't be that one thing, called FEAR

Fear is never good and yet, it is a part of our human existence and we also shouldn't damn it altogether because it also can help us to survive.

So what should we then do?

First and foremost, understand where Fear is coming from. Our evolution is a long one and before our big, "reasoning" brain got developed there was "just" our reptilian brain with only one big function to survive no matter what the cause.

We still have this mode, even though, we won't think of it consciously because when it gets activated it does its "thing" automatically, without our consent.

The medical world has a name for it "Fight/Flight" response. We still will go through it when tragedy occurs. Here is a story from an experience I was involved with.

"As a young nurse student, I was required to do 10 hours of Paramedic hours, meaning, driving to emergency calls. The first 8 hours were mostly house-calls including one major heart attack. What I like to say, it was a bit boring to me, a young nurse student just 19 years old.

I guess my disappointment or lack of action was heard and delivered me what I "really" wanted. Well, the last 2 hours of driving with 2 experienced paramedics were just that, action pure.

A major accident on an Autobahn/, in Germany, called for almost all paramedics surrounding the area, and we were in it. There was a pileup of cars and one huge truck in the middle of all. We all got our instructions over the radio what to do when the car door of one of the involved cars sprung open and a young man got out screaming and started to run like crazy towards the fields alongside the highway.

One of the paramedics said to me: Get out Sylvia and run after him he is in shock and when we won't stop him he even can die of it. What can I tell you two of us ran like hell to catch up with him and eventually we did. It took us strength, almost force, to calm him down and get him into our ER vehicle and into the hospital."

This was the first time when I heard of this "Fight/Flight" response and why that is.

Of course, something like this won't happen to most of us but just watching the daily news and see what some humans are going through in war zones makes me think of it lately even more.

Although, we do live in a peaceful and safe environment (I should say still?), and yet, in our modern civilization this response is still active just in a different way.

Who is familiar, at least with one, of these statements?

  • Financial Fear (not enough income to pay all the dues the mortgage, the car)
  • Health Fear (battling a chronic illness and perhaps not enough money to get a better treatment)
  • Business/Work Fear (layoffs are possible, getting ill but can't afford to, need 2-3 jobs to make Ends meet, economy, in general, is bad for business)

As you can see these 3 statements are very familiar to most of us and in one way or another some of us do know very well how they felt when stuck in one of that situation.

Our Fight/Flight response is still active and we can't stop thinking about the issue and do try desperately to find a solution.

The results are something like this:

  • Insomnia (can't sleep anymore because the brain won't shut up)
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cortisol Level (This is the stress hormone which is on high alert 24/7 and this is absolutely not good)
  • Heart Palpitation
  • Digestive problems and the list can go on

When you experience one of these conditions while being under one of the above-mentioned "Fear Attacks" you are in a "Fight/Flight" mode without even knowing it and being in this constant mode is a huge road block to achieving Success.

There are no immediate solutions for these modern "Fear Attacks" but become more and more aware of it and start to deal with these issues with a more conscious mindset.

Finding real help, relax more etc. knowing that the "Fight/Flight" response still exists and is the reason for the Fear we feel and experience in our daily life.

Wishing you all the best

Love

Hi Sylvia, I like how you related this to your personal experience. Fear encompasses all areas but there is help. Thanks for sharing.
Jerome

You are welcome, Jerome :)

I think that anything that pushes us from the status quo is okay as long as we survive it. Maybe that guy you chased changed his travel habits for the better once he recovered.

Thanks, Jim for taking the time to comment. :)

Yes Sylvia, it is a negative motivator but it is a motivator!

Yes, Michel one way or the other it is a motivator. :)

Great post..... sadly fear is very easily given into

True, but now you know where it comes from and being aware of the issue you certainly can do something to transform the fear factor. :)

Fear is the foundation of those that make a plain for success.

Yes, Tom but only if the person is consciously aware of it and know how to transform to reach success.
Thanks for your comment. :)
