Who Has Time to Write?!?!?!?!?

We have established that Wealthy Affiliates is the absolute most valuable tool any online entreprenuer could ever hope for.The training is immeasurable and the encouragement and direction from the community is priceless.

That being said, why do we struggle with writing the blogs? It is the only thing that is left up to us to do. It is our job and we get to the computer and have nothing to say.

I take the thought that I have a lot of plans and ideas rolling around in my head and it is hard to pick a place to begin. Typically, if I can stay focused, the writing will flow once I begin. BUT IT IS HARD TO BEGIN!! Forgive the shout, but there are many people that feel this stress.

Here are some things that I am implementing in my own blog and website.

  1. Several times a day I add to one centralized list of great ideas - Once the idea is on paper or in One Note, then I can forget about it. This frees space in my working memory to focus on the task at hand.
  2. Define the task at hand and associate a measurable goal with the task - For example, I am sitting at the computer from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. to write the article I brainstormed last night. Now, I do a pretty good job of freestyling in my writing, but if you need structure add structure to your planning. For instance, I am sitting in my bed from 10 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. to jot down some quick ideas about the writing I am going to complete tomorrow. Then, I am sitting at the computer from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. to research and outline the article I brainstormed last night. Next, I am sitting at the computer from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to write the article I brainstormed last night. Lastly, I am sitting at the computer from 5 p.m. to 7 pm. to revise and publish the article I brainstormed last night.
  3. Learn to sloppy copy or quick write - In the education field, students are taught not to think about what they are writing on the first draft. Instead, just start writing and see what comes out. In this prewriting method, spelling, punctuation and grammar are irrelevant. The most important thing is getting the idea on paper. During the next draft, all of the writing can be fixed and tweaked. You will have a solid base in which you can add more details.
  4. My preferred method is outlining and dictating - In this method, I make an outline that follows the WA Website Template: Intro, 4-7 discussion points and a summation. Then, I use the transcriber feature in my phone to talk about my important points in the logical order that I brainstormed earlier. When the transcriber program finishes writing everything, I can go back and begin to revise and edit and make sense of the words that were in my head. Again the benefit is there is a strong base of words on the page that might be rough but is a great start.
  5. Another method is to enlist help - Using paid writers is costly but an option. A better option for those that truly want to write but need a kickstart is to solicit the help of a friend or a social media post. Put your question or introduction of a topic out there and see what the world has to say. For example, I'm thinking about taking a trip. Where would be the best place to vacation for a week? Social media and friends will love giving there opinion. It will keep your social media account fresh and active. And it will give you a wonderful list of responses to build on. I would take that example and write a "10 Best Places to Vacation in 2018" type of blog.

Go Ahead and Write

I hope this helps some one to move past the writer's block.

If you have any writer's block ideas, horror stories or success stories, would you please post them? I will be sure to include your ideas in an upcoming blog.

Yep ... a the EOD, writing and posting quality content is where the rubber meets the road. I think it's fair to say that this may be the most challenging piece of the success puzzle.

But you know the more you do it the easier it will become. I love your recommendation #3 ... sloppy copy. It avoids the angst that can build if you try to make your copy perfect right out of the box.

Great ideas! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, very helpful tips.
