Twenty-Seventh Month of WA - Blogging More

Another exciting month passes by. I have had many significant developments in October, and I'm looking to do even more in November. Unfortunately, I did not meet my $10,000 goal that month. My plan to do that wasn't very well-researched and collapsed when it came to running Facebook ads. So, I had to create a new plan. Additionally, even though I'm making almost $1,000 per month when combining my online businesses and my part-time job, it is better to factor out the part-time job and focus on 10Xing my online businesses. Instead of jumping from $1,000 to $10,000, jumping from $100 to $1,000 is a much better goal.

Let's talk a little bit more about what has happened in October and what will happen in November. Make sure to check out my post on the Twenty-Sixth Month of WA - Back To School if you haven't already.

The Change of Plans

Initially, my plan to make $10,000 in October revolved heavily around funnels and paid advertisements. Basically, I would make a simple landing page linked to a product I am an affiliate with, drive a ton of traffic to it from Facebook, and build up a list. Then I was going to promote other affiliate offers to that list.

The plan failed when it came to running Facebook ads. Facebook didn't like that my landing page went straight to an affiliate offer. I researched affiliate bridge pages and tried to look for other people running ads to affiliate bridge pages and realized that no one was doing it.

I had to make a change of plans.

I also thought about the realism of making $10,000 per month for me. Most of my income comes from a part-time minimum wage job. It is impossible to scale my part-time minimum wage job into $10,000. My employers do not offer more work hours nor increases in wages.

The highest I've earned online profitably in one month was a hundred bucks. Although I have made a thousand dollars online before, I had to spend two thousand to get that result, and I didn't like the type of business I was running.

So let's focus on the $100 I have made before. This $100 came from blogging on Medium. I put an affiliate link in the blog post to a course that costs around $300. Actually, a few people bought through the link (let's use the number $100 for simplicity's sake).

I can definitely scale this up, but maybe not to $10,000 just yet.

The simplest way to grow this $100 from blogging is to write more. With the low amount of posts I'm writing right now, it is definitely possible to 10X my effort on writing. But it would be very difficult to 100X my effort.

To go from $100 to $1,000 is still very challenging. Suppose I focus on Medium (one of the platforms I blog on). In that case, I know that each blog post I publish will earn approximately $1.00 from the Medium Partner Program. I'll have to write 1000 blog posts on Medium in November to make $1,000, which is absolutely crazy.

Luckily, $1.00 is on the low-end. If I can get my blog posts into larger publications or write a blog post that catches the attention of many people, you're more likely to see higher numbers. As I publish more, more people will notice me, and my average earnings per post will increase.

But to make $1,000 on Medium in November, it'll really have to bank on my affiliate offers.

$21.20 From Google Adsense

The most exciting thing that happened in October, however, was Google Adsense. In my last post, Twenty-Sixth Month of WA - Back To School, I talked about how I implemented Google Auto Ads to capitalize on mobile users.

It has been gratifying. $21.20 on Google Adsense is the most I have ever gotten in one month. The previous record for me was around $5, so this was 4 times that amount.

Just yesterday, my badminton website also brought around $7 in one day, which is the largest amount of money I earned in one day from Google Adsense.

In November, I will break my badminton writing hiatus and get back onto the content grind.

It's perfect timing, too, as just a few days ago, I started training competitively again. For November and December, I plan to train with the group once per week and do other exercises by myself. This means I finally have more content to write about.

By January, I plan to train three-five times per week at different clubs depending on the COVID-19 situation and if my blogs can earn a few thousand dollars by then. So I definitely have to put the work in to achieve my goals.

The Road To $1,000

I have been thinking about my list of priorities, what I want to accomplish, and how my actions relate to my vision and action list.

My goals have always been about reaching financial freedom and playing badminton at the highest level of competition. Instead of doing things that generate income or make me better at badminton, I spent a lot of time doing something like working on school assignments, playing games, and watching random YouTube videos.

To reach my goals, I need to align my actions with my list of priorities. There are five things I need to focus on this month. Everything else comes after.

  1. Blogging (Financial freedom)
  2. Other business growth activities (Financial freedom)
  3. Mindvalley Quests (Changing mindset, improving focus, and increasing energy to allow me to reach goals in both business and badminton)
  4. Studying pro badminton players and visualization training (Improving badminton skill)
  5. Physically training (Improving badminton skill)

Playing games and other activities can only come in after I finish these tasks. Now that I got my personal priorities down, it's time to talk about the relevant stuff for these Wealthy Affiliate posts - how I'm going to grow my blogs.

The first step is the general addition of content:

  • Get Good At Badminton blog post ~1 per week
  • Medium blog post ~4 per week (some Medium blog posts will also double as a post in my website in the MMO niche using canonical URLs)

The second step involves promoting content and increasing earnings:

  • Social media posting for my Get Good At Badminton blog. Traditionally, I only posted something on social media when I posted a blog. I plan to post stuff like motivational quotes and quick tips about 5 times per week on all social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest).
  • Creating affiliate bridge pages for various offers. Having a list is very powerful, and I plan to build one from Medium and, if possible, continue to make affiliate sales.

The plan is straightforward. All that's left is to take action.
