Twenty-Sixth Month of WA - Back To School

September came and I went back to school. I'm in university now and I didn't quite accomplish what I set out to to two years ago. My goal was to make a sustainable income online before I graduated from high school, but I didn't quite meet that goal.

But, I learned so much. After reflecting a little bit, I realized I have everything it takes to make a lot of money online and earn that money quickly. You probably have all the skills needed too. In my last post, Twenty-Fifth Month of WA - Returning To My Roots?, I said I'll make September 2020 one of my most exciting months yet.

And it certainly was... but not in the way I anticipated.

Student Grants And Scholarships Here To Fuel My Businesses

I used to bash university a lot. I believed and still believe that university is a waste of money for most people. If you don't have a blinding passion for something like medicine, engineering, or law, university probably isn't for you.

Most people just want a nice, stable life. They go to university thinking they will get a nice paying job and life wil be great. Most of my classmates are like this.

For me, after looking at the lives my close and extended family, I felt like university wasn't going to guarantee me anything. My family consisted of a doctor, a nurse, an English professor, an archaeologist, an architect, a data engineer, an electrical engineer, and more.

None of us have financial freedom. We all live average lives, but I wasn't going to be an average person.

That's why I was super against going to university. University costs a lot of money. Money I could use to fuel my business endeavours.

Then I realized that for me, going to university actually gave me more money than I had to spend. The University of Calgary's tuition fees weren't the highest in the world and my mom was able to cut my entire tuition by almost half since she worked at the university, I was only spending about $2,000 per semester.

I found out the Canadian government offered benefits for going to university. First, there was a scholarship I qualified for which put $2,500 in my pockets. Then another $1,500 in student grants that I got every semester. And finally, student loans of up to $10,000 per year that did not accumulate interest until I graduated.

And because I don't have to move nor spend much money on essential needs, I had a few extra thousand dollars I could put into my online businesses or other investments.

A Quick Adjustment Can Help Me Break Even

I was sitting in class one day. I was bored and got distracted. But it was a good distraction. I was looking through my emails and the Google Adsense email about my revenue dropping caught my eye.

I opened up Google Adsense and saw that my badminton site (the first blog I started here at Wealthy Affiliate) was making pretty much nothing. It was between $0.01 and $0.02 per day. Yeah I figured, I haven't posted anything since March. Of course, the income is lower.

But then I thought about it a little. Maybe I should check Google Analytics as well to see if my traffic is lower as well. To my surprise, I had more traffic. I was consistently getting over 200 visitors every day.

So I was super confused. When I was only getting 100 visitors a day, I still managed to get at least $0.10 per day on Adsense. Why was it so low now?

I opened up my blog and voila, I realized my sidebar completely disappeared. Oh my god, of course my Adsense income is negligible. There are basically no ads on the site!

So I rebuilt my sidebars and added Adsense back in. Instantly better. I was making between $0.10 and $0.20 per day again.

I wasn't satisfied, however. With 200 visitors on my site every day, I should be making way more than $0.10. After digging around, I found that most of my visitors were mobile users while most of my income was from desktop users. Mobile users almost never saw the sidebar ads which was what I focused on.

When I turned to Google Adsense, though, I didn't have an easy strategy for monetizing on mobile. I decided to turn auto ads back on because I was lazy.

And another instant improvement happened. The earnings went from an average of $0.10 to $0.50. And looking at the last couple of days in October, the ads have been earning about $1.00 per day.

If my website can keep this up, then all my Wealthy Affiliate fees will be fully paid for since I'm on the Black Friday Yearly subscription. And that's absolutely amazing.

In November, I actually plan to go back to badminton training and that will also equal more content which will lead to more traffic and finally into more money. Things are getting super exciting!

My Limits Have Been Tested

I worked very hard in September. Along with my university courses, I have been taking a few self-development quests from Mindvalley that include improving brain ability, reading speed, and breaking limitations.

What I have realized while taking these Mindvalley quests was that I dabble a lot. If you read a lot of my posts, you'll realize that there's this trend. In one month, I set out to do something. Then in the next month I say that I didn't do any of that and I'm setting out to do something else. It becomes an endless cycle of how I talk about how much I'm going to get done and then I never get it done.

During those posts I always talk about limits and about how giving myself a lot different projects will allow myself to see those limits. Unfortunately, because I never execute on those projects, I never see my own limits.

Going to university, taking Mindvalley quests, and working a part-time job has shown me what I am capable of. I'm the opposite of most people. I'm thinking too big and not being realistic with what I can really handle and accomplish at my current stage.

Managing more than 10 profitable blogs and businesses in different niches is something I will be able to do eventually. After experiencing the workload of university courses, plus Mindvalley quests, and plus a part-time job has shown me how much time I really have and what kind of work I can get done.

Currently, I don't have the time or resources to create more than 10 profitable blogs and businesses. I have identified what I really want and need to do. In October, I need to start making money. I need to drastically shift my income upwards over 30 days.

Looking at all my income sources combined, I'm only making about $1,000 per month. In the next 30 days, I'm going to 10X that and make $10,000.

  • I want to 10X my income.
  • I will 10X my income.
  • I am 10Xing my income.

To do this, I need to focus and focusing is what I am going to do.

Focusing On One Objective

To make $10,000 in the next month, I've broken it down to a target of 200 affiliate sales of a software product that costs $97 per month. With a 40% commission rate, I get about $40 per month per sale which equals about $8,000 per month. The leftover $2,000 will be generated from other affiliate commissions related to the software (e.g. some people will upgrade the software to a higher plan, buy books related to using the software, other software to complement the original software, courses, etc.).

My niche is the make money online niche and I will focus on a sub-niche inside the main niche, blogging.

In the next month, no more badminton blogs, e-commerce stores, or random other blogs/businesses I created. It's time to hit my goals.

That being said, there are still things that I have to do in addition with my business. Here are my three main focuses for October.

  1. Making $10,000 in MMO niche
  2. University courses
  3. Mindvalley quests

It's time for me to start planning my strategy. Let's go!

Nice, Kevin! Your goals are attainable with your methodical planning! Well done!

Jeff

Thanks!

You're welcome!

You can never learn too much or have too many qualifications. It is easily carried and there when you need it.

Yep definitely agree. Lifelong learning!

No new words for that if you believe you can achieve
Mike

100% agree. Thanks for the comment!

I agree with you about university, that it doesn't guarantee success after you graduate. I did it as an adult because I love to learn and thought it would ramp up my income. It didn't but I learned how to write better, I learned how to research (biggest thing!) and I learned a lot about things in the world. So I guess it was worth it.

Nice job on reviewing things and see a concrete way to increase your website income. :) Good luck with school!

Paula

Thank you!
