Updated

It's been a busy week that I'm quite pleased with.

I've continued trundling along to meet the goals for the SAC and I've been amazed at what I've produced.

[EDIT] I managed to get another 1700 word article written this morning so I've updated this post accordingly.

The short version

  • I wrote a new 1,579 word article
  • I wrote a new 1,934 word article
  • I wrote a new 1,678 word article
  • I posted both articles to my site's social media accounts (Facebook & Twitter)
  • I created a reusable Gutenberg blog to place my affiliate disclaimer on each page
  • I wrote a new WA blog post about why many people aren't making money at WA
  • I wrote a new WA blog post compiling some of my favourite inspirational training and blogs from other members here at WA
  • I've somehow risen in rank from 129 to 61 on WA. I didn't think I'd really helped that much.

Writing like crazy

After not really doing much of anything due to home and work pressures for the first four months of this year, joining the SAC has turned that around and I've written 9,209 words this week. That's pretty awesome, considering how little time I thought I had.

Coming up with a subject to write about is something that I still struggle with (even after coming up with a juicy list of keywords). It's one thing having a list of keywords but it's another thing to choose one that inspires 1,500 words.

The cool thing is that already, I'm finding it much easier to write 1,500 words once I get going. It's quite remarkable how quickly my brain is adapting to writing long posts. I'm even starting to enjoy it.

If I can just master the art of picking topics to write about, I believe I could easily increase my output to three or four posts a week. That would really be something to see

If I get nothing else out of the SAC, I'll have finally learned how to find and choose keywords and the joy of producing long content.

What amazes me the most is that I hit my goal of writing three articles a week and I went over my 9,000 word goal for the two weeks too.

I have no idea what it means to have a writing level of 5/5 but it's the first time I've had it and it made me feel nice. :)

The joy of Gutenberg

One of my personal goals when I started the SAC was to really get to grips with the new Gutenberg editor and I'm really, really, starting to enjoy using it.

I write my content in the Site Content tool (being careful to occasionally select all and copy in case things go wrong) and then, once I've published it to my website, I edit it.

The first thing I do is move my mouse over the block of text that Site Content imported and click on the three dots on the top-right and select Convert To Blocks.

That turns each paragraph into its own Gutenberg block so I can insert images as additional blocks more easily. I don't like inserting images in the Site Content editor because I don't like to get distracted while I'm writing.

I then insert my affiliate disclaimer block at the top (just below the title) using a reusable block and my "what do you think" block at the bottom - another reusable block that invites people to leave a comment with a button that jumps them to the comment form.

The benefits of having a 'study buddy'

I'd feel remiss if I didn't give a big shout out to my study buddy @PaulREvans57. Thanks Paul!

We agreed to support each other during the SAC2019 and at some points during the last two weeks, he's really kept me focused and going.

I've been amazed at the progress I've made and I've really appreciated having someone to bounce ideas off and encourage me when I've needed it.

I'm hoping I'm able to do the same for him too.

This has made such a noticable difference in my progress that I encourage all of you to look to someone that you talk to regularly here and see if you can come to a reciprocal arrangement to push each other to achieve your goals.

Goals for the coming week

I didn't think I was going to get three written over the last week but I managed to publish one this morning, hitting my goal of six before the end of today.

My aim was to publish three articles a week in the SAC and although I didn't think I'd achieve it - I did! I am so over the moon. :)

It's made me feel pretty awesome, getting that done.

I've really pushed myself to hit the goals for the first month of the SAC and somehow, I've done it. I'm really looking forward to seeing the impact of my efforts in the coming months.

Anyway, this week's goals:

  • Publish three more over the course of the week
  • Get to grips with keyword research and actually plan 12 articles for the coming month
  • Create my first YouTube video for my site's new channel (two-week goal)
  • I have no idea what's coming in today's SAC update for month 2 so... watch this space

That's awesome!

Thanks, Dianne!

Hi Phil, WOW I'm very impressed with all that you have accomplished in such a short time. You've showed us what we can accomplish if we put our minds to it. Thanks for sharing. Frank :-)

Thanks, Frank, I'm impressed too! :-p

I just hope I can keep it up for the next twelve months! :)

Well done, Phil. Great Effort all around. I couldn’t have done it without you either. It hard and emotionally draining.

I couldn’t get away with only five hours of sleep every night. Like you, I was determined to get my last post published for today!

I’ll be writing my WA SAC blog tonight.

It's been a rough road but amazing at the same time. I can't wait for month #2 (partly so I'm starting at the same time as everyone else).

I look forward to reading your WA SAC blog post. :)

So impressed with your progress, Phil. Keep it up!

Best wishes
Hazel

Thanks, Hazel.
I feel like I'm starting to gain momentum and my site looks way better for the additional content.

Great comeback Kettei, you did it! Onward and Upward!

Thanks, Kaju.

I'm excited about this challenge. It's already pushed me to do things I didn't think I could.

Good on ya! Nice progress.

Thanks, Fran. I'm impressed how much I've got done over the last two weeks!

Doing awesome!

So far, so good. Eleven months to go. :)
