Put it out there - The Value of Social Media esp Facebook
Value of Social Media
Okay, so I've been a bit slack with social media, as I'm still learning about how to post on pinterest, and haven't even started with Twitter or Linked in, but I've come to realise how powerful and valuable facebook is with increasing my traffic. Facebook has been my least favorite social media platforms thus far, due to it's limiting algorythms and restrictive traffic unless you pay for a 'boost of my post'. Which is something that doesn't sit right for me.
You see, in addition to that, I'm not comfortable with writing in the first place, but blogging feels safer because I'm not known to anyone personally (yet). But when it comes to facebook, it's more personal. Finally, after 6 months, I took the plunge and put it up on my personal facebook page that I've been blogging (it was almost like a confession lol). But in true friendship style, I've received great support, comments, and increased traffic! It proves word of mouth definitely can help with boosting your business and getting your brand or website out there and known.
It's definitly a learning curve for me. I had initially invited people to like my page but this was more about who I felt comfortable personally sharing my page with. Which was a bit presumptuous really. I didn't realise how easy it would be to simply create one status update with my website and facebook page so that those who might be interested could choose to go and like my page instead of me inviting them.
So don't let fear or assumptions hold you back. Once you've created your page, have a few blogs on your site, utilise word of mouth through your own network to help build your brand. You don't know who of your friends will want to know what you're doing, or want to support you. Put it out there!

Thanks for the advice Kathleen! I'm not a big social media person either b/c I have had very little time to spend on it in past years. However, for purposes of generating traffic, I plan to engage more. Once I have more posts on FB, I will consider sharing my info and letting people choose what they want to do. Thanks for the post! :)

Great advice, Kathleen. It really, really does work. You've proven that taking that step out of your comfort zone is beneficial.
I wish you all the best,
Sue
