The (War) Art of Moving Forward

Even 1% is progress. And here it is inching into a new stage of my artful WA life.

Is that saying "new level, new devil" what to expect as the (internal) war of the WA online world unfolding?

How can writing be so challenging? The words in my head sound so poetic and artistic when I sit to write and I get some cheesy crap rolling off the tips of my fingers. My fantasy leans in to crunch the screen into a ball and toss in the trash again and again. Command X will have to do, albeit less satisfying to watch words, lines, and paragraphs disappear.

I was recently sitting in my therapist office talking about the excruciating pain and agony I have endured writing CONTENT!! He suggested I take a writing break and read a book. (Exactly what I paid the pretty grande hourly rate to hear)

So I read the book - in a few hours, while soaking in a bath(not of my own tears this time!) but deeply relaxed and taking in every word, better understanding myself and my resistance.

In the book The War of Art, Steven Pressfield stated “Resistance is proportional to love. If you feel massive resistance, the good news is, it means there's massive love there too."

So there it is, the act of loving my new WA world has also come with some great tug of war face offs. But it appears that the question and the answer are the same... All we need is love.

I think I can be more gentle and kinder with my resistance, the art of love does not have to be a war.

How do you find your content mojo?

My resistance to writing has to do with a traumatic (at least it felt that way at the time) event when I was a teenager. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my world was turned upside down at the time, and not so much because of what happened with my writing.

I would write prolifically in a journal and I would put all my feelings there as well. The journal was stolen and then the most private parts were used against me. They were also given out to people who I mistakenly thought were friends.

During this time I also lost my greatest champion, my grandfather. He always encouraged me and my writing. He supported me in all that I did. He even raised me. Losing him left me with little left to say, especially after my inner feelings were used against me.

So I am trying to overcome this mental block that was put in place after that. Perhaps talking about it here will help. It can't hurt. That's for sure. Heaven knows enough time has passed that I should be able to overcome it!

Perhaps I should also try reading the book.

Anita

Hello Anita, thank you for sharing that deeply personal story. It is certainly something to consider working through to allow yourself the greatness within you to shine. Have you tried, or heard of EFT?? It is something I do regularly especially when I am stuck or blocked. The book is worth the couple hours it takes to read. Much success to you on this journey.

No, I haven't heard of EFT. What is it?

This is the best (free)resource for learning and working through blockages I know of... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiHZMZejDS4RIxDdBwoie9A
I have been "tapping" for over a decade now and it is truly one of the best things I do for myself!

Let me know what you think?

I will give it a try. Thanks!

I can be resistant to all kinds of things. I've accepted it as part of me now, so when it arises I just say, "Ah there you are again." Somehow it does not seem to get too much of a hold on me these days unless I am having a really bad day. :) ~Mark

Hey friend!! Great to see you are doing your work despite the resistance! It feels like everyday get easier(in very minute amounts). Thank you for your comment, I really appreciative your feedback!

loved the insight

Thank you Jerry!! I have also noticed that more writing means less resistance!! I think I might be getting it!! (finally!!)

Hi Kathleen, those writing humps can strike at any moment even for seasoned campaigners, the best antidote is to step back, even walk away make sure to save your work, if you don't that causes another set of problems.

Long story short writing is a challenge for many, it is something that we evolve into I am sure. The key is to go easy on ourselves and just accept that sometimes those words won't flow.

Have you tried using the site content;

I enjoyed reading your post thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you so much Alex!! I think like everything here that is so completely new there is a steep learning curve. What I do hold out hope for is that it also seems to get easier!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom, I do use the Site Content tool and Jaxxy on my blog posts. It certainly makes writing more simplified!
