I am sure many of you waited in breathless anticipation for yesterday's installment from The Matrix. However, I should have mentioned that I try to not do work on Sundays. I apologize for no blog post, but make no apologies for taking a day off. We went to my granddaughter's Christmas program and thoroughly enjoyed that.

Now, without further interruption, back to the Matrix. Remember about the spoilers, so please watch the movie before reading these.

Born for More

The fourth lesson comes when Neo learns that he was born into bondage with the wool pulled over his eyes preventing him from seeing the truth. The truth that he is in a prison for the power of his mind. That he is, in essence, a copper top battery that the machines are using to power themselves.

I am sure at this time, Neo really doesn't understand what is going on. He just believes that there has got to be more in life than working and taking out the land lady's garbage.

This is prior to being offered the choice of the red or blue pill, I think that one is for tomorrow. (Hey, I just gave a spoiler for the spoiler!)

What is the lesson we can learn from this?

The lesson is just this: We, too, are born for more than just powering the big wheels. You can read that as those in control (like the machines). You can read that any way you want. But if you are working for someone else you are making their dreams come true, not your own.

I take that back, some people really enjoy their work and working for others. There is a lot of responsibility in working for yourself and making your own dreams into realities, but if you are tired of working for "the man," then this applies to you.

Many of us work for businesses that are truly worthy. Like I said the other day, there is nothing wrong with this.

But ask yourself this: If you are not working to make your own dreams come true, then whose dreams are you working on?

If you are a doctor or a lawyer, you may work in a hospital or law firm. These are both professions that are necessary for this world we live in. You could branch out and start your own clinic or law office and those would still be noble pursuits.

You may work for a fast food franchise. That, too, is necessary work because people love to eat. Some might say we "live" to eat.

But if you are unhappy and looking for more whether you are a doctor, a lawyer, a hairdresser or a journalist (which I believe many of us here at Wealthy Affiliate are) then you need an avenue to break free from the bondage which has enslaved you.

For me, that avenue (street) is Wealthy Affiliate. I believe that I can do what I am meant to do through the abilities afforded me by this amazing training and writing platform.

Am I enslaved by my current (or any) employment? I believe I am because I am not building my dream, but my employer's dream. As much as I like my boss, I sometimes think of him as my owner. My days and sometimes my evenings belong to him. He dictates what I do during my work day. While I have some liberties, for the most part, I am stuck doing his bidding.

Every year we have a holiday party and we are invited to his home. I haven't gone for the past few years because it makes me feel bad when I go there. He complains about not making any money and yet, he has new vehicles and new furniture and new 70 inch TVs and, well, you get the idea. I try hard not to be envious, but when my hours are cut and I haven't had a raise in over 5 years... well, I just don't go because I don't want to feel like the "owned" being allowed to go into the owner's mansion and enjoy a feast once a year as some sort of reward.

Phew.... I got off on a tangent there!

The point is, we are all here to do what we are all meant to do (a rough paraphrase from The Matrix Reloaded).

I believe that I am meant to do more than work for someone else. I believe that many of you believe the same way!

Until, tomorrow...let's begin to take that journey down the rabbit hole!

Best Wishes,
Karin :)

Yes, you are meant to do more than work for someone else. I'm fortunate that I don't have to anymore.
Have a great week,
Mickey

Very happy for you, Mickey! I hope to be able to join the gainfully "unemployed" soon! Well, at least by my 55th birthday!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

I am so fortunate because I don't work for anyone but myself these days.

That is great, Fran! It's nice, too, if you like your boss! :)

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

I used to tell the employees who wanted a raise, (Giving raises was not in my control) "If you are not worth more than you are being paid, you have nowhere to go but down."

I'm concerned about working for myself. I might only get what I deserve.

That is a scary thought! Well, with hope, we all deserve more than few think we are worth!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Again great tie in.... it’s a real eye opener when you realize your fulfilling someone else’s dream.... was waiting to read your new addition ....

Tim

Thanks, Tim. Hope you're having a great day!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁
