Well out of my comfort zone

I hope this isn’t too controversial, but here it is...

I have been reading a lot lately about the benefits of getting out of your comfort zone. It’s a concept I’ve always been intrigued by but I have never had a natural tendency to do so, at least not in any way that would draw attention since I am basically one of those people that like to blend in and become part of the crowd.

I have always been more of a follower than a leader, and life is so comfortable when you don't have to change.

But I did change, one very, very hot day this summer.

My husband and were sitting out on the deck and I was just so uncomfortable. I said “Pete, I wish I could take my shirt off like a man can.” and he said “I think you can, Google it.”

So I did and yes, I can, but en though it’s legal it’s not well known nor is it accepted. I’m certain if I started tending my gardens and walking the dogs topless my neighbors would be uncomfortable to say the least.

It really got me thinking...

Why is it different for women than men? If the female breast was not considered inappropriate to view in public and accepted for what it really is, would that lead to a healthier society? Would little girls grow up with a more positive self image of their body than they have today if breasts were seen as normal anatomy? Would little boys grow up without the perversely exaggerated desire for this forbidden part of female anatomy? If it’s legal, why isn’t it acceptable?

In cultures where topless women are an everyday part of life their breasts are looked upon as simply that...breasts...nothing more and nothing less. They are not oggled or viewed as a sexual organ. The little boys in these villages are not hiding issues of National Geographic under their bed.

So I left my cocoon...

And a niche was born!

Right from the beginning Kyle tells us to look to our passion for a niche, and I have found a passion. My feelings about this are so strong I even attended (and participated in) a topless rally! Any social change takes time but I would like to be one of the forcesthat make a difference and I feel ready to fly!

I have to make this clear, I have as many butterflies in my stomach posting this blog as I did going to the topless rally.

I

I would really like to know how others from around the United States view this issue as well as others from around the world.

Be peaceful, be healthy, be happy,

You have more courage than I do, but as a senior citizen, it sure would seem strange to some for me to attempt this. Besides, I am a little old fashioned and modest.

I agree that it would be more natural if we had been raised to not feel we have to cover ourselves so much. But that is our society and other than in private areas, it is just not as accepted I applaud your courage. Start a revolution.!

Thank you Vivian. I am 60 yrs old and up untill this I have always been super modest. I'm surprising myself, and my husband who is so supportive of this cause. He walked with me at the rally.

Go for it, Girl. I think a woman's breast as a sexual organ is vastly overrated. They are so much more visible now than they used to be there wouldn't be much change anyway. It would probably desensitise a lot of men, too.

Such a good point Kari - they were put there to feed your children and not to be ogled at :)
