Focus to Achieve your Goals
Focus, Focus - On the One Thing
Do you have trouble staying focused on the one thing. ?
There are so many options and ideas floating around and oh so many distractions. It is amazing how much you can achieve in a day or even an hour if you stick to the plan and do one thing at a time.
Scientific studies have proven that multi tasking is not an efficient way to achieve anything. Women tend to claim that their gender have it covered and that they can multi task well. That may be because as Wives and Mothers we have to learn to be available and to do several things at once. This may be the case but is not necessarily the best way to complete things to achieve the best result. How many times have you burnt the dinner because you went off to fold the washing, or just do this.... I know I have.
One thing at a time -
I just spent the day trying to do several things without a plan or a goal as to what I wanted to achieve for the day. This is not an efficient way to do things and I was easily distracted by emails, and Social Media. Most of this was actually work related but ended up being very disjointed so now it is at the end of the day for me and my achievements could have been completed by midday.
The days that I achieve the most are the ones that are planned out with a definite list to follow. I stick to the list and don't start the next thing until I have completed what I set out to do. Sometimes I allow an hour for a task but it may take 2 or three.
How come we are so good at underestimating what we think we can achieve in a certain time frame?
The One Thing - What is it?
I recently finished reading the book, The One Thing, By Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. It was a fairly short read but had some good points in it: I will share some of them with you:
- If you chase two Rabbits - You will not catch either one
- The key is over time. Success is built sequentially. It's one thing at a time.
- Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of the things that matter least
- You must be single-minded. Drive for the one thing on which you have decided
- Success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right.
- Decide your habits and your habits decide your future.
There is plenty more good advice in the book but Let's not overdo it at the risk of having too many things on the go at once, which takes me back to my day..... I need to get back to my One Thing for the day and finish it. think that will be to write a blog for my website because "content is king"

Focus creates fire. Like the magnifying glass under the scorching heat of the sun, dry grass easily catches fire because we focus on it through a magnifying glass. Our magnifying glass is our goal. Focus on the goals and you will have the needed motivation in you each day! Find your big why's behind the goals and you will achieve your goals in due time. Way to go!
Great post, funny thing my day job I am more focused, my business I am not, I think it’s because I am accountable at work, I have deadlines and clients whose reports I have to write.
My business is me, I’m accountable to me and I guess my boss (me) is not setting the pace.
So I think having accountability, focused, single minded may help me today.
Loved the post made me think ..👍
Thank you. Sorry for the delay, in this reply...my focus was off.
Yes sometimes it is easier to focus on something if you have added outside pressure to do so.
That probably goes back to our school days where we were worried about getting our knuckles hit with a ruler. if we did not stay on track. ...

Totally agree Karen. Although I do remember an incident on our farm years ago when I was a young boy. My brother and father went out rabbit shooting and my brother shot one, when he went to check on it the one behind it had also been killed by the same bullet. Jim
Jim, wow that's pretty amazing.I suppose you can catch the two rabbits, you just have to adjust your aim.

Yes ... chasing two rabbits ...at the same time you’ll be lucky to catch one... focus is crucial
Thanks Tim
I plan to do many things in a day, I go from one to another and at the end of the day, I have not completed any of them.
Yes, I can resonate with that completely. I try and write a list of to do and stick to it. When I do this it works well. Usually if I write it the night before then I can forget everything knowing that I can pick it up the following morning.
That way I don't stress about what I have to do....that works when I do it.

Thanks, Karen this is great advice which I need to follow. Sometimes I start too many things and then I feel overwhelmed.
Yes I know the feeling. I think we can sometimes expect too much of ourselves. Maybe break things down into small steps. I know my daily lists sometimes take several days to complete, but in my mind it was much quicker than that.
