Under Settings>>Writing you will find update services. This takes care of the pinging settings.
It is automatic in WordPress. No need to dwell on the issue.

I'm trying to connect to my FTP account through Filezilla but I keep getting the message "Connection timed out" "Could not connect to server". Does anyone know why this happens?
It sounds like you're using wrong credentials. See Build My Website>>Websites>>Details and check your FTP Username and Password. Admin username and FTP username are always different whereas the Passwords may or may not be the same... Wallace

When I try to upload a theme I have on my pc I get the message "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.". The .zip file is 4.37MB only.
There is a lot of training on using ftp. The tricky part is knowing where to load the theme or plug in. /httpdocs/wp-content/themes/folder for the theme. Remember your user name and password are different for ftp log in.
Sorry to say you can not and WA host will not do it for you. Your only option is to transfer the file via FTP. On a PC, Filezilla is the most popular program for this. BTW, my zip file was only 2.2 MB and I got the same error!!! Regards, Wallace
