Today 25th February 2020 is Shrove Tuesday also known as Pancake Tuesday, Mardi Gras day or Fat Tuesday.

A little history if you will:

Shrove Tuesday (which derives from the word Shrive, meaning to “absolve”) is a moveable date and usually occurs in February or March depending on what date Easter falls, which is a moveable feast. Pancake Tuesday is the day immediately preceding the first day of Lent or Ash Wednesday, which is a 40-day fasting period.

In some countries Mardi Gras is a carnival day but in each case it is considered the last day of “gorging” or “fat eating” before Lent, hence the name Fat Tuesday.

Shrove Tuesday is observed by many across the world who take the opportunity to "self-exam” and if necessary make amendments in life or areas of spiritual growth.

As a child, we observed the period of Lent by “giving up” something, which we could not “live without”…this was our Lenten sacrifice and usually involved giving up “sugar”, “chocolate”, “crisps” etc.

What I am doing:

As an adult those sacrifices don’t mean as much to me, as I rarely eat sweets or crisps and life is way too short to give up chocolate!

So in a world that revolves around the internet and social media I am aiming to significantly reduce my screen time for the 40 days of Lent.

While I do not intend to go completely off-line, I do intend for the short amount of time that I will be on-line to concentrate solely on my websites, social media for sharing purposes only and learning.

I am looking forward to the challenge and feel it will benefit me more in the long run!

How we like our pancakes:

Pancakes have always been a firm favourite in my house, most weekends pancakes are our

go to breakfast, a break away from the term-time weekly cereals that are eaten before hurrying out the door to school/work etc.

We like them stacked, folded, and open – filled with meat, salad, or fruit…. and of course always with an accompanying sauce, be that honey, Nutella, peanut butter, lemon juice or maple syrup.

Today, as with every Pancake Tuesday we have them for dinner….and we got to bed with happy and full bellies ;-)

So, do you indulge, do you enjoy and how do you like to eat your mix of flour, eggs and milk?

Where ever you are, and what ever you celebrate, I wish you all a very Happy and Fulfiling Tuesday ~ Jules

Hi Jules, I couldn't resist commenting.
To be honest, I never heard of Pancake Tuesday, although I had heard about Fat Tuesday, so now I am well-informed.
Of course, I know about Lent but we never practiced stuffing ourselves beforehand, maybe that was why we failed so often.
It is interesting how different areas celebrate certain days, always fascinates me.
Thank you for sharing.
Ray

Thanks Ray, the world really is a funny 'ol place, so many different traditions I guess that is what makes us all so very interesting...I hope you're having a wonderful Tuesday all the same ;-) Jules

thanks, but now the idea of eating pancakes for supper is stuck in my head, I will have to try that soon.
It does sound delicious at the moment.
Ray

Go for it, I had three delicious different types

Grilled Bacon with Maple Syrup
Sliced strawberries with Nutella
Melted butter with lemon juice and a shake of sugar

Finger licking good my friend!

Pancakes!! It's whats for dinner. I love it. Happy Tuesday

Greg

Got it in one Greg ;-) Jules

If we have them, which is unlikely as the chidren seem to have grown out of the custom, I would just have a few squirts of lemon juice and some Canderel, as I gave up chocolate and sugar in Jan 2019. Rolled up and swallowed whole (kidding) I am allowed the occassional piece of dark chocolate, if I've been good.
Gonna miss you, unless you class being on here as 'website' related'

Ahh Twack you're missing out bud, you need to reacquaint yourself with a fluffy pancake, some strawberries and maple syrup, nothing like it!! We only had the lemon and sugar variety as children, so I do revert to that every now and then for nostalgic memories.

I will be reducing my time on here I'm afraid, I just do not have the capacity to maintain my sites, write content, learn and engage on here also, only so many hours in my day and something has got to give, so I'll be taking a hiatus for a while. I'll dip in every now and then but I've removed notification of blog posts on my email so that I won't stress too much about not being able to read them.

I'm hoping the universe will continue to direct me towards all and anything I need to know to help me on my journey ;-) Slán go fóil, Jules

It's been and gone now, though one of the offspring has made them about three times over the last few weeks, maybe he couldn't wait.
You are right, of course, there is only so much we can do with the time alloted.
I trust also that universe will send you where you need to go. Enjoy and I'll look forward to any fleeting visits you might have.

Jules,Great post..Very interesting information. Keep up the great work. Have a wonderful day. Fitzgerald

Thanks Fitzgerald :-)

Where is my share?

Anyway happy pancake day!

Thanks Merven ;-)
