Anyone that says affiliate marketing is not a profitable or even doable form of digital marketing has no clue what they are saying. Affiliate marketing is a $12 billion per year in sales industry in 2019 and is growing at an extremely fast rate.

affiliate marketing will always be there - every time someone recommends a product to someone else then it exists
it is down to you how you use it and whether you make money out of it.
a very successful entrepreneur maybe now selling his new method- what did he do to make his money - that is what you want to do - not follow into unknown territory.

i would advise following one strategy until you know what you are doing - then you can start to pick and choose bits to create your own system and test what works for you.
