New Month. New Strategy.
I'm always making adjustments and shifts along the way and August of 2019 will be no different. It's going to be really interesting and it is going to take some serious discipline because I will not be looking at email or social media until I've been up for an hour.
The main reason is that I'm looking to increase my personal productivity and to me the natural step is to increase my focus on what I'm going to accomplish for the day.
When I stood back and looked at things objectively I realized that by checking in with Social Media first thing in the morning I was literally beginning my day by looking at everyone else's carefully crafted highlight reel. And that was showing up as a distraction for me.
It's going to be hard because I've become very conditioned to scroll through the endless feed (which we all know is designed to be addictive) and see what's going on but I'm determined to do it and then see how I feel about it at the end of the month.
The email seems like another obvious thing to go because it's literally responding to everyone else's requests and focus. Since I've already been plugging away with lots of unsubscribing and I really don't enjoy email that should be a cinch!
Social Media will be more challenging but it's only for a month so I'm really curious to see how I feel about it after I've completed my challenge.
How about you? Does anyone else restrict their social media... and if you do how is it going for you?
Wishing everyone a wonderful August!

I find social media rather addictive and time-wasting at times at least for me it is.
I restrict my social media to checking for new members and the occasional post.

I definitely have this problem! So I set an alarm every half and hour while I'm doing online work. When my alarm sounds, it is time to reward myself with 10 minutes of social media!
It's definitely designed to be addictive. I think when you're aware of that it becomes easy to control it... smart move with the alarm. It is a valuable tool for us as marketers so I think it's worth figuring out ways to make it work for us!
I have left Social media 2 years ago and do not miss it at all. Now that I am building an online business i have to MAKE myself directing attention to that platform. Social Media is very distracting but can also influence you in a way you may not want to be influenced. Even my Kids ( 27 and 25 ) are using it more to stay in touch with friends around the world rather than sharing information that is where POD Casts come in.
good luck Judy
wishing you all the best

Thanks Andrea, it really can be a major distraction. I'm glad you've got a way to make it work for you :)
Judy, I find it can be a distraction, and only do less time that I need to handle business throughout the day, and only after posting and other important aspects of the day related to business.
Any political or commentaries that become useless I block for 30 days and or note something I do not want to see.
Management of all platforms is vital to keep moving forward.
Take care,
Bill
Hi, Judy, I have no special restriction on my interaction with social media because I do no often engaged in it. I find that it is a waste of time. Nowadays, it is more of responding to WA blogs.
One, to improve my English and vocabulary.
Second, to learn from successful WA blogger like you, and
third, to give encouragement and help to those who need it.
Sometimes, I wonder how come you all have so much to write?
You all are just great and full of ideas.
Anyway, I like it because I can learn more.
Keep it coming, Judy and all the best.
Thank you so much! It's definitely all about learning for all of us... that simply never stops.
I agree with you that Social Media can be a waste of time. I use it for business purposes and to watch what some interesting smart marketers are doing so it can be useful in small controlled doses.
Hope things are going great for you!
With social media, its literally just for the business. I go in, do what I have to do, respond to others and move on to the next platform. Its a useful tool.
Good post and we wish you all the best.
Focus on the things that are important to you.
Regards
Darren & Nicola :)

I've really never acquired the SM bug ... Fb in particular. I've never really been comfortable with the clutter on the site. My wife is just the opposite ... she's hooked. So much so that it started to effect her sleeping habits. She would wake up at night just to view her Fb page.
We tried THC chocolate covered strawberries. It's legal here in Ca. That helped a little bit. We tried small dosage melatonin. That helped a little bit. We tried no cell phone screen viewing for 2 hours before bed time. That worked very well.
Yes, there's so much blue light that comes off all of our devices that it can really comprise our sleep cycles. So glad you've got something that's working for you both. Social Media platforms are designed to be addictive and I think it's important to be aware of it. They offer great opportunity when used the right way.
