To make money online you need to solve problems and add value to the lives of the people who are looking for your site, what ever niche you choose you must make the site about them and not you, other wise you will fall into the trap of "me marketing" which is profitless
Ask your self this, do you want a hobby or a business?

hi, i would suggest a 'how to' because it lends itself to an audience that is looking for a solution and therefore more inclined to buy or click on an ad. You can still focus on for example bass fishing. You are just altering the angle you approach it at. So for example you could focus your site on How to catch the biggest Bass Fish. You could then right a ton of pages/posts on tips and tricks focusing on a particular fishing line, rod, reel, location (all of which have loads of products you could link to say on Amazon)! Hope this was of use.

Like they said, you should find something that you have experience in that you can help others with. You want to be able to promote something in that niche.
