On The Rise: Building My Business Slowly But Surely

It's been a little over two months since I started on the Wealthy Affiliate journey. I just finished my fourth article and working my way through the training. It's been slower than I'd hope but that's partly because "life happens" but I have been determined to not let that stop me.

I haven't gotten to the money making parts yet, I'm currently stepping through the different training courses carefully reading, watching videos and following instructions so that I get the most out of each lesson.

Not My First Rodeo!

Years ago I had tried my hand at blogging without any success. It wasn't that I didn't know what I was doing I just didn't apply myself or follow through with what I needed to do to succeed. Also, I wasn't consistent with publishing new articles. Also, now I see some other areas I was not getting right or missed the point all together.

This time I'm armed with the knowledge of "what not to do" and with this excellent training program at Wealthy Affiliate and the added determination to follow through with everything and be persistent.

Learn To Fail Fast and Often?...

A couple of years ago I went to a seminar taught by a guy who was one of Daymond John's (from the TV show Shark Tank) business partners. It was a great seminar but it was only an introduction to the full course. I learned a lot in that seminar and one of the things he said was don't spend too much time on an idea just to find out years later that its just is not going to work.

He said "fail fast, fail often" which means as quickly as you can try to prove something is going to work or not. This requires that you don't get too hung up on one idea, come up with an idea, test it, make a workable version, one you could even sell and see how it does. It's not going to start out perfect but if it gives you some positive feedback, go back to the drawing board and tweak it, make it better, evolve it.

Transforming an Interest or Hobby into a Business

I have may different interests and hobbies that I could have started with for my first website but for my first one I decided to go with 2 in 1 laptops. I purchased the domain my2in1laptop.com.

I choose this as my first niche site because I'm not only very interest in computers I'm also very knowledgeable about them. It also helps that I work with computers, applications and systems on a daily basis. Plus, I love the idea of being able to do "real work" on something as mobile as a tablet.

The easy part for me is talking about things that I'm interested in. The difficult part is turning that into a real business that makes real money and that's what I'm here to do and Wealthy Affiliate is helping me every step of the way.

Looking Ahead: Setting Goals and Following Through

My goal is to begin generating some type of revenue by my third or fourth month. I'm not expecting too much I just want to at least see something. I won't give up if I don't, but I will strive to succeed in that endeavor.

After all, I need to set goals and work toward achieving them anyway. I won't spend too much time on one method or idea, if somethings not working I need to re-evaluate it and try something different or tweak it a little.

This is a process that does not have one single path to success. No matter how big a task or project is I always remember what a business coach once told me, he said; "how do you eat an elephant?".... "one bite at a time".
