Hello Friends...

Question everything, including Your "Self"

"Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours"

~Richard Bach , (Illusions, 1977)

We all have our Poets, Prophets and Saviours that have shed light along the way, individuals who we've connected with, and inadvertently help shape who we are today. My first major influence Jesus. then Gandhi, and the list goes on, and though over the years, many times I've fallen short of following their example, I strived to remain true to my "Self".

Success

Born the B*ast*rd Son of an Irish Nun, left nameless in an orphanage, to then travel through a series of foster homes, and finally left to fend for myself on the streets, yup, I have eaten from garbage cans. I grew up hard and fast.

~JFC

I was always leader, in 1977, at the age of twenty, I was among the first to form a natural food co op on the Canadian East Coast. Already I'd pulled myself from the streets, and developed a network of followers. I'd built myself a log cabin in the woods, plowed my fields with a horse, and was living "unplugged". I soon became the "go to guy", for back to the landers. I thought I was invincible, bring it on, I really believed I had the Answer.

I had balls, and the years that followed were much the same. I never worked much for anyone else, by the time I was twenty three, I'd formed a construction company with many older guys working for me. As I said, I was invincible.

There's a power that comes with having a payroll, as friends are many, in fact you come to enjoy being the Alpha Wolf, it just seems to be your rightful place.

The fall from "Ego"

Not to say I never fell. however I always found the inner strength to get back up, brush off my knees, and go again.

I never whined...

~JFC

A few years back I had an electrical accident, which left me with both my arms pretty much unusable. My right arm was amputated, my left , being an artist and musician, I argued with my Doctors not to amputate, and I stuck to my guns.

However, the following year was to be of immense emotional trauma, seriously, can you imagine?

I went from the Leader of the Pack, to a one arm guy. A guy who in most local bars could walk up on stage, and jam with the band, to a crippled guy.

Going for the home stretch

Well I've come to understand a lot since, I've learned that indeed a man is not the sum total of his parts. I've rediscovered the younger version of me, the "Me" that believed.

Whining or Winning?

I've relearned to play guitar, and I've searched for new ways to make money. Most importantly, I've rediscovered my true "self", and sometimes that means re-creating your "Self".

I mentioned in other posts, how from the get go, I found WA, I'm just one of many, who have come to the right place, at the right time.

So, are You a Winner, or a whiner?

Later Gators

Joseph

I've said it before...here I go again. Sometimes in life we cross paths with people who touch our hearts so deeply. Not so much because of their stories, (we all have those) but because of the way they've triumphed over adversity and pulled themselves from the ashes of ruin. Being human pretty much guarantees we'll be scarred in some way, but I believe that abandonment, especially as a child, is the toughest wound to heal because it has taught us to abandon ourselves. It is the marking of some of the greatest Warriors and one of the toughest paths to walk in this world. Some make it, and some don't, but those who do have learned to never abandon themselves again. We may cross the finish line bruised, beaten, and battered from all the mistakes we've made in an effort to 'belong' somewhere...anywhere, but the gold we've mined through it all is, like you say, in finding that 'belonging' in our 'true'self' - intact, whole, and ready for anything. You're a good man, Joseph and as always, you have my utmost admiration and respect. Blessings my friend, Heather :-)

Whatever it takes :)

Personally, I've learned it's kind of an Illusion. so send her this...

To You, I send my expectation of You, ya imagine... I expect...

Love ya Sis... :)

It's ALL an illusion as you know my friend. :-)

I know Sage likes that Queen song, but it hasn't made it to her treasured playlist. 'Renegades' appeals more to her sweet and compassionate heart.

Love the John & Yoko video! Hadn't seen that one before.

Warm Hug,
Heather :-)

It really took guts to reveal and shared so much of yourself.... What a story. Thank you for sharing!

Bernie

Thanks Bernie, though it might not have taken so much as "guts", then the realization that we are all frail and human :)
Success is such a personal thing
Blessings

Joseph a gem of a post, this is what makes this place what it is, thank you for sharing your insights and life experiences I for one feel privileged to read. Seem to be saying that quite a bit. Don't think I have come across such a sincere bunch of folks as those that are involved in the community here at WA. Thank you.
Alexander

Well Alexander, when we actually think about it, we are all on the same hip, travelling through time and space.
Thanks so much for your kind insight :)

Wow, what an inspiration to those who believe the world owes them a living. Yes, Joseph, you have come to the right place at the right time, as most of us have, many who have lost thousands of dollars falling for "get rich quick" scams.
As far as finding your inner self:

THE GUY IN THE GLASS
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your Father or Mother or Wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people may call you a straight shooting chum
And call you a wonderful guy,
but the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest
For he's with you clear to the end,
And you have passed your most dangerous test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may face the whole world down the pathway of life
And get pats on the back when you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and strife
If you've cheated the man in the glass.
- Dale Wimbrow

Wow you always come up with the right prose is beyond me Bro
Thank you
I've saved it :)

I believe I am a winner, after 3 failed relationships, 6 children from different fathers, I started all over again by my self in 2004 with 4 children living at home and no alimony, worked myself outof living from the social security into an independent profession in 2009, worked about 80 hours a week multiple jobs from '04-'09, remarried in 2012. Never whined, but shed multiple tears.

You know Loes, I think the world of you guys.
You are so much an inspiration to me.
Long after we both make money here and elsewhere, we will remain Family
with Love,
huggs to all :))
\Joseph

Well done Loes , you have come out tops.......you are a winner, Johan

I guess you never get rid of me anymore:))
I am aquarius, so there is only one way with me. If people are not honest then they ruin it for good. If people are making mistakes but are honest and straightforward, I am the most forgiving person you can imagine.
(hugsback)

I know, and I hear you Sweetness.
I love you both to bits.
Imagine the year ahead
We can, and we will...
Lovingly
Joseph

:)

Well done Loes, It is about never giving up! You sure are a winner.

Yes, imagine when we come to the part of traveling the world:)!

He He, and having you guys down for however long, cooking in Ecuador :)
Your own little guest/Family cottage :)

Wow; I am humbled by your story -- thank you for sharing.
Hugs from Kauai

You are a total winner in my books, Loes...in so many ways. Blessings and a warm hug to you. Heather :-)

Hmm Equador:) never thought of that country to go too

Of course i'll head back home first, do some final touches in modifying my Bike to left hand control, then head on down to Ecuador to build my art studio.
Get all my bestest friends down, and just be....

and maybe, just maybe, I'll forget, watching all those bronzed ladies walk by :)

Thanks Sis :)

If we are all Winners, it's because we've learnt to support each other
Thanks Johan :)

Thanks:) I will give it to him when he comes home

:), I ca't wait to break open that case of Scotch, lol

You have a whole case!! ase!!se!!

One? As a Canadian. I pay close to $40.00 a bottle, do you think for one moment, I'm not stockpiling here? After all, I have to stock up on XMass gifts .
Now i need to make real money, buy a sail boat and hide my cargo :)

Oew you hit the right chord, I simply love Jack Sparrow!

Oh the wicked wild stories we read, such tales do unfold. However we should take heed, of those romances we are told. Such Sweet Maidens have been lost, to tales of Diamonds and Rust...
