WA World; A Few Great Tools To Add To Your Toolbox

Hey Friends

Well the weekend is here, hope everyone is doing well. I thought I'd mention some tools for everyday use, and that personally I couldn't go without. Hopefully they might serve you also. So here goes a few of my Favs.

Hope you enjoy...

1) Lazarus

Ever lose your work, like for instance an online blog or post such as I'm writing right now? Sheesh, all that work, gone, lost in the infinite. Even a long winded comment, right here at WA? Well I'm notorious at it, seriously! I'm forever multitasking, the sudden "oops, $@**# " is quite a common occurrence. Also, the internet in Beirut, is as testy as the way they drive here, you really have to experience it, making it easy to lose your work and your mind.

Lazarus takes care of that, no need to lose your nerve. It's a free Google add-on, that automatically saves your work, making it easy to retrieve your text, by clicking a tiny unobstructive icon, that appears at the top right hand corner of your text box,

2) Scrivener

I first discovered Scrivener while writing my novel, an awesome tool. If you've ever written a long piece on microsoft word, then having to scroll way back and hopefully find something you've written, well you know what a headache that can be.

Scrivener is a godsend, it classifies all your chapters in a sidebar, as well as notes and reminders for each chapter, that you need to remember when you go back and edit.

I've also taken the habit of not writing my content right on my website, I write all my drafts on scrivener first, with all content and pages sorted, as well as relevant memos and notes listed in Scrivener's handy left sidebar. It's been a lifesaver. To tell you all it's capable of, as well as making your writing easier, would take the whole page. It's well worth checking out.

3) Notepad ++.

Used by Pros and Novices alike, this is a must. Over the past few months I've taken up html and css, I'm loving it. What was once similar to trying to read Chinese, is now making sense. Notepad ++ has made it all so much easier.

Now while you can write out your code on Notepad (not to be confused with Notepad ++), the downside is that all your code and text is the same color, making it difficult, to sort and decipher.

Notepad ++, an open source free application, colors all your code, as in the pick above, including a different color should you make any mistakes. The content itself, remains normal text color.

It's an awesome tool, and here comes my fav word again; being an Open Source project, it's FREE.

My # 1 choice, for when all else fails :)

Hoping everyone has a really great weekend

Later Gators

Joseph

Hi Joseph, thanks for sharing, already have Notepad++ and Scrivener, now I;ll give the aptly named Lazarus a try.
Nice to see you're into HTML and CSS, both give you so much more flexibility in developing your website than WYSIWYG.
Have a great weekend, and stay safe bro.

I'm sure you'll enjoy Lazarus, and as far as Note ++, you're spot on Harry
Have a great w/end my Friend, and thanks for dropping by :)
Joseph

Right now I can use Scrivener. Could be the key to writing content for my first web site. Not quite ready for the other tools right now.
Thanks again Jozeph

Have bookmarked these. I remember you mentioning Scrivener once before to me. Have had a peek at it and I like it. May think about getting it at a later stage when it would be more beneficial for me.
Take care bro and congrats again on the climb proud of you.
Bro

Sorry for the late reply Bro, just swamped here.
Yes, indeed I also recall. I'm sure you'll never do without it .

I had the internet go off, when it came back on, it was about 4am your time. Sorry for missing our call. I'm heading to a camp tomorrow, will be back late. Hopefully we can touch base on Monday morn, if you're free :)
Blessing my Friend

Thanks for those, Joseph. Bookmarked for when I need them.

You're welcome Margaret, glad you enjoyed.
Have a swell w/end

I dig name of the script revival program. Bringing your lost text back to life. Geoff. :)

It's saved me hours of work Geoff, either when I screw up, or the internet goes off, which happens to be both every few hours here.. It's a relief to see the Lazarus Icon appear, all my online work, saved!!!

How's your w/end going Bro?

You know Joseph, I had kinda a rough start. I'ts getting better though. I haven't yet lost any work. The providers in California where I live are pretty stable. How bout you? Are you able to help people on a daily basis out there? Anyway, I appreciate what you're doing as I work and raise my kids in a completely different world. Geoff.

Internet as well as providers here is pretty bad, being Canadian, I've sure been spoiled. As far as getting out everyday, I'm taking a little time to get my finances in better shape.
However, I do get out and deliver supplies to camps. a few days a week
It also depends on how heavy the fighting is.
Take good care my Friend

Hello Joseph, great tips.
Can you tell me where you got the awesome dragon scholar drawing? I need to get that for my husband who is a bit of a historian and writer who likes dragons!
Thanks!

Just picked it up along the way Jesicca, if you'd like I can send it. I've got others he might like also:)
Have a great day out there in Alaska, Brrrrr... :)
Blessings to you both
Joseph

Great suggestions! I'll be sure to look into them soon.

My pleasure Liz, thanks for dropping in :)

Some great tools here Jozeph. My first sites were written in notepad, not that i was ever an HTML wiz. Will check the others. What novel did you write.

Hi Peter, have you tried Notepad ++ ? (Notepad plus plus)

No can't say I have. I ASSUME Scrivner is a PC program?

Yes it is Peter, really awesome software, cuts down on search time. and organization.
It works on both Windows and Mac
Also Notepad + + , is really great to write out code with, if you do try it, let me know what you think.
Have a great w/end :)
J*

I will

Do you use free Scrivener, or is that just a demo>

Hi Jozeph,
Thank you for sharing this information.Notepad++ is what I have been using and it sure is handy. The color coding feature is a great help.

Sure beats my eyes getting crossed, trying to sort through code and content :)

Thanks for dropping in Achuthan, much appreciated.
Have a great day
Joseph
