The Writer's Den; Today's Tiny Tidbits of Grammar Tips 2
Hello Fellow Affiliagators
Hope everyone had a great w/end, and ready to tackle this coming week. For those who had to work, hopefully you'll allow yourself a little down time...
Oh. right, before I forget, I hope my US Brothers and Sisters are enjoying a great Memorial Day long weekend ;))
This is the second of a series of Posts, concerning Grammar rules, and Elements of Style, which I hope will please you. If you have any questions, just fire away, I'll do my best to answer in a timely fashion. You can either post it here along with the other "comments", or if you prefer, you can shoot me over a PM.
WA; A Global Guild of Website Creators
"I feel blessed when I reflect upon being surrounded by so many special individuals, like minded in the pursuit of Ethical business practices." ~Joseph C.
One of the aspects I greatly enjoy about our WA Guild, is that it's members gather from such varied backgrounds, and come from all over the World, Wow. From Doctors to Carpenters and everything in between, to individuals who live in areas where English is hardly spoken.
Now for many, writing content may be somewhat of a challenge, some may even feel intimidated, or uncomfortable. Also you might be hesitant because you feel your knowledge of written English may not be up to par. Well you shouldn't be, quite the opposite.
Be proud of yourself in the fact that you've undertaken this task, go at it in a positive way, believe in your abilities, and most importantly, write, write and rewrite. If you feel stuck ask, you will be surprised how in a short time, your writing skills will have improved by leaps and bounds.
Learning the English language, along with it's endless grammar rules, is for everyone an endless undertaking. And I really mean Everyone!
Today's Tiny Tidbits Of Grammar Tips.
Due to the length of my post today, I'll keep it short
Woman vs Women, The singular and plural form
Misusing the plural form of woman when writing about a Woman or the Woman, ect..
Example;
Wrong spelling; I saw a beautiful "women" yesterday.
Right spelling; I saw a beautiful "Woman" yesterday.
In this case Women should have been written in the singular form which is "woman".
An easy way to remember this is if you notice the ending of Woman, "which is "man", would you write "Peter is a really smart "Men"? of course not, you'd write man.
I've not only noticed this error countless times on the web, I've also encountered it quite frequently in magazine articles.
And so this brings today's post to another close. I really hope it was helpful, and that you Liked.
To our success
Later Gators

Thanks Jozeph. We live in a global community where English is the second or third language. Crossing T's and dotting "I's" does not come easy. Pour your thoughts out, fix what you know to fix, and let the world see it. BAM!
Hey Bill,
A man after my own heart.
Straight to the point, and no baloney.
Thanks so much for the pleasure of your comment...
Have a great day
Joseph
Thank you Joseph, and please keep it coming!
It is very true that we all can use a bit of help with just plain English.
Hi Ron!
So true my friend, English rules are endless, from grammar on down to the fine art of punctuation, Grrrrr ; P
Thanks so much for commenting, it's much appreciated
Have yourself a great day Friend
Joseph
Thanks for the post.
I often select the wrong spelling of a particular word to make it more acceptable to Google. US spelling vs UK)
I also use words like don't, can't, gonna, etc to make it more "down to earth" and seemingly more everyday "street talk".
Hey Theuns,
How are you? Great to hear from you.
You brought up two very good points here, and I just can't resist commenting.
Mostly over the last twenty years, English has become the International Business Language. As such, many different dialects are included. Therefore whether spelled in UK or US fashion, they are both right. The TOEFL and IELTS exams are now based on International English.
All the words you listed have now become part of " the International English language", and are correct.
Though the words; Gonna, Wanna, Oughta, and their usage is discouraged, they are also included, and accepted as " eye dialect spelling".
So as you can see, you are perfectly up with the game ;))
Thanks so much for your comment my Friend, was much enjoyed
Have a great day
Joseph
I think if people take the time to read what they wrote BEFORE they hit send, they would be amazed at the mistakes, and typos, throughout their content. I cringe when I see content on a website that has multiple typos, bad grammar, etc. Not very professional. A big one that bothers me, to no end, is the use of "your" and "you're". I am by no means perfect in my grammar but I do have a dictionary by my side when writing content.
Very true Vanessa, I think if a person has or develops a passion for writing, then more care is taken.
Thanks so much for taking the time, much appreciated
Hope you're having a great day
Joseph.
And that is how I first remembered to use woman/women with the MAN in it. I know... don't yell. Anyway, my wife keeps me straight on most of my grammar, 'ain't that something'... thanks for the tidbit of info and have a safe Memorial Day. Cheers... :-)
It's how I did too Michael, my mother tongue is french. No similarities at all between the two languages. I spent many an hour getting my English writing acceptable
I'm glad you stopped by, much appreciated
Thank You
Joseph
Today is Memorial Day here so many people are still off (but I hope not on the roads). Just finishing up my caffeine intake so I can get on the road. Where do I get that automatic wine drinking app? LOL Also, like the dragon. In Chinese,Carla and I are both dragons and yes, I for one, CAN breathe fire. :-)
So, I'll be checkin' in if nothing else, to make sure you're staying in line. :-)
Hugs
Deb

Happy trails Sis
Huggs back at ya!

Great post, Joseph. My girl is a professional proof-reader. Even though I have a solid education in grammar, I have learned you can never rely on yourself to proof-read. The brain has a way of "overlooking: one's own mistakes....
Thanks again for the reminder
BigDaddyFred
great to hear from you Fred,
I know what you mean, I often encounter the same challenge ;))
thanks so much or taking the time
Have a great day
Joseph
I read, read and read my post again before I publish. I write in Word so I can use the edit & spell check facilities. Then I look at the published article and find loads of errors. It's almost like my eyes are blind to the errors at first.
I'm hoping I can rope in a friend to double check articles for me in the future. My brother has an MA in English Language - maybe I should ask him, ha ha!
Great points Jo,
I think it's hard to edit our own writing, especially if we enjoy what we write. I know I tend to get carried away in what I wrote, while editing ;))
Thank you so much for taking the time, much appreciated
Have a wonderful day
