When Marketing on the Internet How do you Stay on Task?
Here are a few of mine:
1. Make a task list for the day. Do this each day or the night before. I know I never get everything I want to get done on any given day. A task list helps me. If it's not on the list don't do it until you have everything on your list done.
2. Put everything -- EVERYTHING on the list that you want to do for your business for the day including visiting forums, research, Facebook for business. Set a time limit and stick to it. This avoids wasted time.
3. Close all windows on your computer except what you are working on. Don't check email, Facebook, Twitter, cell phone, nothing, while you are working on a task.
4. Turn T.V. off.
5. Only play music without lyrics if you need to have noise. It is proven that words from songs will intertwine with what you are trying to do and can be distracting to the thought process.
6. Take breaks. You can't work effectively for 8 to 10 hours without breaks. Take a break at least every two to three hours. It doesn't have to be any more than 10 to 15 minutes, but it will revive you and help you get back on task. Make sure you eat regular meals too.
These are some I use. If you have more to add please add yours.

I, honestly, like to do my tasks in circles. I may have two or more browser windows open with 10 different things on each. I have my emails sent directly to my phone and I have been able to keep up and stay more organized.
Sometimes I find myself with 20 to 30 windows open and I become so overwhelmed I just have to close them all and kind of start over. LOL So much information these days. I like the thing about the email, but my phone would be buzzing all day long and that would drive me nuts! LOL
You are right, everyone has to find the right fit for them, but there are also some general rules that will help. :)
Staying on task is something that I struggle with. Trying to decide which task is most important to due is a challenge.
I think anyone that works at home has this challenge. As you get used to making your lists you will figure out what is important. Just stick with it, right?
Staying focused with literally anything you want in the world just in front of you in a screen is certainly for me the most difficult thing on IM.
Thanks for the tips.
Great advice, Joyce. If anyone's looking for a modern take on task lists, I recommend Wunderlist http://www.6wunderkinder.com/wunderlist It's free and you can access and share lists from multiple devices, computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. across multiple platforms such as Windows, OSX, etc. Rich. x
Hi Joyce! Great post about staying on task. I'm doing some of these, but not all, so this is very helpful! This may be just another distraction, but, something to put on your task list for the end of the day might be to blog about your success for the day. It not only positively reinforces you but also others who can benefit from and be motivated by your success! It's kind of like journaling. Thank you for your post!
