The Start of My Long Journey Up the Mountain

So, I wanted to try and do my first blog on here to help other new commers who are just starting out on their journey as well. For the last couple years of my life has had a TON of ups and downs. Not just with things happening around me but the things happening in my body, both physically and mentally. I have personally struggled with my weight and mental health for probably most of my life at this point. A few years ago, I was at the point of accepting my "place" in the world as just another worker ant who would trade away all his time for money in the hopes of providing for the people I cared about.

At the time I thought I was "happy", but I wasn't, I was only lying to myself to make myself feel like I was doing what I was supposed to do... What everyone told me I was supposed to do.

Looking back, I can’t say for sure what caused the shift in my brain that has got me to this point in my life, but the first step was I got out of the crushing job I use to have. I worked in a manufacturing plant where we would work 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I switched to another manufacturing plant but this one had a much healthier environment and work to life quality. For a moment I thought that this was the change I needed, just a less oppressive job, and at first it seemed that way.

Fast forward a year and I reached this point of I wasn’t happy with me; it wasn’t my job at this point because I got a "better" job it was me. At this time, I was severely overweight, had little to no healthy habits and was not feeling great.

I spent the next year finally starting to work on me, treating the problem rather than the symptom. So, I was just over 370 lbs. at the time, and though I still have plenty left to do, I am now down to just over 300 lbs. I can enjoy playing paintball again without feeling like I can’t breathe in my mask, and since going back to the gym I gained a lot of my strength back from when I was in high school.

But I’m getting a little ahead of myself, let’s rewind back to late February. I was only a few months into trying to get my life together but while doing this something in me changed as well. I took a good look around myself looking at the people I had working for me at the time and saw the position I was in, and I realized that it wasn’t for me. Sure, I could continue to push my way up the corporate ladder to eventually get to manager, but it wasn’t what I wanted. I didn’t want to be stuck with this 9-5 job trading my time for money every day hoping one day I could retire.

So, I began reading my first book, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. Truly a great book that was very eye opening for me, though I didn’t become a real estate expert it did teach me some key lessons. And one thing for sure after reading it, I knew I wanted out of the "rat race."

So, I began doing some research looking for ways to increase my income, create multiple income streams to help me along the way. And I found a lot, believe it or not there are a lot of resources out there, some paid, some free. But you can find almost anything, and I have spent a lot of time on different things.

Thus, the reason for some of my more resent ups and downs with my mental health. There is a lot out there, like I said, but the trade off with so much information is the information overload. I found so many things that I liked I couldn’t tell which one to try so... I tried them all. Real-estate, Digital Marketing (though this one I do like and am still trying to get up on the side), Affiliate marketing (currently doing here and I started to really enjoy), Stock market trading and many more.

I'm a little amazed my girlfriend has been able to keep track of me and all my escapades. Through it all she has stuck by my side, so I am truly grateful for her.

Little tip though for anyone just starting on their journey, DON'T try to do it all. It leads to burnout and overload, and you will quickly find yourself in a place worse than where you’re started. Trust me. ;)

So, after bombarding myself for the next five-ish months, I took a break and reset myself and found my center. Which now brings us to here, starting with affiliate marketing going through these lessons and taking it a step at a time.

As of writing this I am 28% through the "Online Entrepreneur Certification" Training. Now for me I am a very introverted person, I don’t use any social media. I have Facebook to keep in touch with some old friends and that’s about it. So, it was intimidating, the idea of trying to give people my opinion when I’ve basically spent my 29 years of life keeping it to myself.

Funny enough though I wrote my first Keyword Rich Post on Monday, though it was not easy as it took me about 4 days to figure out what I wanted to write. I did it, and it felt good. So good in fact that a day later I wrote another one. Tomorrow I may write another one as writing the one today gave me another idea to post.

Now I’m not claiming that what I’m writing every day is gold, I know it’s not. But it feels good to get words on “paper” and start to tap into the reserves in my brain full of knowledge that I can share with other interested people.

So, a tip for anyone like me who is just starting out, if you’re nervous about what you have to offer to the world with your opinion of whatever it is that you’re trying to do. Just start writing, you may not realize it yet, but you do know so much more about your niche than you realize. For me, the only reason I was able to realize it was because I started. So that’s just the start.

Hope anyone else out there who reads this can find this helpful and encouraging to start your journey if you haven’t yet. Or reassure you that what your ding is right.

Take care!

Hi josh. We learn more from hardship than from victory. It sounds like you've been through the first part. It's time for victory!
