Another Step Forward

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and comment on my first blog post!

My friends call me Josh! I've been around for a few years, mostly inactive for a lot of reasons, kids, college twice, multiple jobs, other business opportunities, etc. I come and go, attend occasional live training or watch recordings on interesting topics through the years. I have always had strong intentions of diving into affiliate marketing and building a business out of it but never really got started on that part. To this day I haven't completed the training and given it a real shot. This last few weeks I realized this was on "ME" and that "I" needed to change and just Start Now! So I did.

I started by updating my profile & goals and getting more involved within the community by chatting, PMs, profile posts with many people at WA. New members, active members, Ambassadors, anyone I could find. I've had many opportunities to reach out, assist, help and get to know other members and even made a new friend or two here :)

During this time I realized that many other people are also struggling to start, or get through the early stages. I've seen hundreds of premium members with accounts several months to several years old with no activity. There are a ton of potential reasons for this but it made me realize that I am not alone!.

In my day job as an IT Engineer, perfection is required before moving a complex system into production. Extensive effort, research, testing, and approvals are all REQUIRED before a simple change can be made. I can not take any kind of risk as it would jeopardize the company AND my paycheck!

This mindset developed and pounded into my head at work is detrimental to starting and building a simple online business. I need to rewire that entire part of my brain as it's been holding me back!

For an affiliate marketing business, I believe that starting, consistent learning, creating content, implementing new things as you go, are the key actions that will lead to success. All while ignoring the desire to seek perfection or that elusive magic bullet as they do not exist here!.

The most important action however is simply giving yourself permission to start! Clear the mental barriers that are holding you back. If you are in the same boat, say this with me: "I give myself permission to start! and will take another step forward every day!"

I, You, We, must take steps heading down this path without knowing everything. Sometimes without knowing anything at all! We can simply start walking, one step at a time, one class at a time, one piece of content at a time. We'll figure out the rest as we go!

Today I am taking a big step. Here's to our journey together!

Josh

Nice article Josh! It is so true to take the first steps in action. I found it is one thing to have a vision and a goal but without action and steps. It just reverts back to a dream.
I like how you emphasize implementing new things, and perfection is elusive and holds our actions back.

Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks so much for sharing. Yes, it is one step at a time.
And it is taking action even though we keep learning.

Your post will be helpful to others. Thanks for sharing your journey and your commitment to moving forward.

The community likes to encourage and help, so if you need either, just give a shout.

Great to read your post.

Thank You! appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. I can only hope this helps others getting started this journey and can't think of a better reason to publicly announce a struggle within the WA community.

Hey Josh
I would also add that it's OK to fail at this and, in fact, it's almost encouraged that you fail as you will know that that particular route doesn't work.

Running a successful website is very similar to your IT job in that you have to undertake extensive, in-depth research before you publish a 'test' piece of content. You then examine the results of that test piece before rolling out a production run of content based on the results.

Good luck with your journey, we'll all be beside you if you need anything.

Thanks Dom, fear of failure and or rejection are very real in many areas of life. I'm sure experience will prove that overcoming this is just part of the process.

Josh, it is great to hear you recommitting to your business dreams. I taught IT for several years so I understand your life as an IT Engineer.

The commitment to your business is not far from your commitment to your day job. Breaking things down and taking one step at a time is all you can do at any pace you decide.

Wishing you the best,
Canty

Thanks Canty! Looking forward to seeing you around!
