Garden Been Put To Bed Today.

Hi All WA friends,

As you will know, we don't get the warmest and sunniest of climate's in the UK, in fact up here in North Scotland, we woke up this morning to a white ground frost, even though we are still in October.

When the mist, fog and frost was burnt away by the autumn sun, we were having a beautiful clear blue sky day. We probably wont get many more of these gorgeous autumn days, therefore I decided to be out in my garden all day.

Getting the lawn mower out of the shed for the last cut, till next spring. Not the best of surfaces due to the ground being wet this time of year, but the electric mower coped, just. After finishing I used my strimmer to clean up the edges of the lawn.

The hardest part was cleaning all the mud off when I had finished !!!!

Now on to my next job, cleaning the windows. Apart from my two rottweilers, smearing and licking the patio door windows, we have a dust problem. My home is about one hundred yards only from a sand and gravel quarry, if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction my windows gets covered in dust.

There is also a scotch whisky distillery four miles away, if the prevailing wind is blowing in my direction we get a strong smell of malt from the distillery.

So I have really enjoyed my day putting the garden to bed for the winter, more beautiful days like this would be a pleasant surprise.

Our clocks go back one hour in the UK on Saturday night, confirming winter season time has arrived.

Hopefully all my WA friends have had a really nice day, where ever you are in the world. It was refreshing just being outdoors all day.

Thank you,

John

Good work in the garden! I do the same here in Netherlands We still have quiet nice weather but getting colder. I very much like your cartoons, Marion

Hello Marion,

We had rain during the night so a bit lucky in getting the garden sorted yesterday. Cartoons did make me laugh.

John

This morning it's foggy in Belgium. Brrrr

Glad you enjoyed your day outside!!!

Hi Liz,

Your weather must be better than our wet climate in the UK.

John

Belgium is quite similar actually. it was foggy most of the day. now the sun is creeping out but hardly.

Lots of rain here. lots of humidity. Hate it!!! Hence the upcoming move to Portugal ;-)

Excuse me !!!
Portugal, I am very jealous. Seriously Liz, my very best wishes with your sunshine move.

John

Lol!! Ya next March...can't wait!

Thanks John ;-)

You are a lucky man to be where you are John. I'm thinking I still have at least 2 more cuttings to do in my neighborhood, to the tune of 25 acres each time:)

Lucky, you certainly are, John.

Hi Stephen,

After sorting the garden out yesterday, it poured with rain during the night. So very lucky with the weather pal !!!

John

My goodness Brad, sit on mower for that acreage pal !!!
Cut mine just in time yesterday as we had rain during the night.
Our climate is cooler and wetter, yours must be a warmer place if the grass still grows.

John

I reluctantly picked all my tomatoes (mostly green) and my peppers and pulled out the plants last week. And mowed my lawn. Now I'm glad because it is cool and damp so far this week. Maybe snow tonight. I'm not looking forward to winter.

Snow already Jean, we haven't had snow in the UK for a few years now, just rain, more rain and more rain !!!!

John

I don't think we got it John; but it got pretty cold. If you get time; Check out my blog "Bitterness". I mentioned this post.

It is gorgeous and sunny and so bright as we already had a bit of snow!!! The fall was so gorgeous here too, lots of sunny days with the golden leaves on the birch trees!

Scotch, lucky you. Ha. Glad you had a good day.

Hello Dennis,

Trouble is pal, I absolutely detest scotch !!!!
My tipple is Brandy.

John

Scotch makes me nauseous too. "Lucky you" was tongue in cheek.

Nice and love to be out myself. thanks,

Hi Mike,

You definitely look like an outdoor guy pal !!!
It is so nice this time of year if the sun is out, bright, crisp, no breeze or wind at all, leaves changing colour and falling off the tree's. It is picturesque and really refreshing, although only about 8 or 9 degrees C.

John

Nice.

I is a beautiful day in Florida too ;)

Hello Ginger,

Although a gorgeous day here in the UK, the day temperature was only about 8 or 9 degrees C.
I have got a feeling Florida will be a lot warmer.

John

Thank You for sharing !

Pat

Hi Pat,

I didn't want to leave any longer, once the weather breaks at this time of year, that's it !!!
It is nice to have a day outside, Pat.

John

Great post John, and awesome pictures! I too am putting things to bed for the winter. Oh a green house would be so nice!
Deb

Hi Deb,

The ground was nearly too wet for the lawnmower, but done now. No greenhouse for me either, raspberries and rhubarb are open to the weather. Raspberries have died off now, a bit of rhubarb is still hanging in there !!!!
