Why it's important to assess the total traffic potential for a blog post topic idea.
Hi everyone,
Just a short post about two ideas:
Firstly, why it's important to take into account all potential traffic a blog post could attract when brainstorming topic ideas and secondly, how we can use Jaaxy to estimate that full traffic potential.
Why it's important
When we write blog posts, the reality of the way Google works is that each single post may actually rank for many different keywords.
In fact, some research reports estimate that top performing posts in the sought after number 1 position in Google can rank for close to 1,000 different key phrases!
So, when we are trying to think of topics to write about, if we focus purely on a single phrase, we might decide (based on the stats for that single keyword) that the topic isn't worth writing about.
But this approach may lead us to discard topics that are actually worthy of our attention.
How we can use Jaaxy to assess total traffic potential
Here's a randomly generated example of a single key phrase along with its Jaaxy stats:
This keyword phrase has a Traffic potential of 24, which, depending on our selection criteria for our specific niche sites, we might feel is too low to target.
But is that a fair reflection of the traffic an article based on coin magic might bring to our site?
Luckily, Jaaxy helps us out with suggesting other related keyword phrases and we can capture all of those keyword phrases and save them to a Jaaxy list:
A naturally written blog post for our original keyphrase 'coin magic tricks for beginners' could easily rank for any/all of the other 8 phrases shown above.
Comparing the traffic stats of the single key phrase, (which was only 24), against the traffic potential of the group of connected key phrases (241 combined), we may well change our mind about whether or not we should write the post.
The key point
Each keyphrase in a connected group will have different levels of competition. This means the ranking position for your blog post will vary in response to different google searches, so the exact amount of traffic you may attract will not be (in this example) precisely 241.
My point is simply to suggest we should avoid being too harsh when initially looking at traffic stats for potential topic ideas, as this may cause us to discard valid and potentially profitable articles.
By remembering that a single post can gain traffic from multiple keywords and then assessing the total traffic potential of the 'group' of keywords, we have a better chance of not missing out on topics that we should cover.
Hope that makes sense and is helpful!
Best wishes
John

Excellent post John!
So very true that we can rank for more than the one keyword within our post. There will be multiple keywords within our posts that can rank in the various search engines as well, so it's a great idea to see what other keywords listed may have as results too.
Thanks for sharing!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry
