Affiliate Marketing: More Composer Than Carpenter
Many people approach affiliate marketing as if it were a set of blueprints, like building a table. You follow the instructions, step-by-step, and voilà – success! But the reality is far more nuanced. While there are fundamental principles to learn (like keyword research or content creation), affiliate marketing is less about rigid construction and more about creative composition.
Think of it this way:
Building a table is like following a recipe. If you follow the measurements and instructions precisely, everyone who uses the same plan will end up with a nearly identical table. Affiliate Marketing, however, is more like composing a song.
You learn:
- the elements of music theory (your affiliate marketing training here at WA)
- the different instruments (YouTube, Pintrest, SEO etc) and;
- various musical styles (your niche selection).
But ultimately, you have to write your song.
You have to combine those elements in a way that resonates with your audience.
And your song will be different from everyone else's, which is why no two websites, even in the same niche, are ever identical.
Skills to hit a moving target
The digital world is constantly changing, and audience preferences shift and evolve.
What worked yesterday might not work today and that's why your affiliate marketing training at WA isn't just about giving you a set of pre-determined plans - it's about equipping you with the musical knowledge, skills and tools to compose your own unique and compelling tune, no matter what challenges the online world throws at you.
It's about consistently understanding your audience's "musical taste" and creating something they'll want to listen to.
Forget the blueprint approach
So, I recommend ditching the blueprint mentality (if you have one) and embrace the creative process...
Learn the fundamentals, yes, but then go out and compose your own affiliate marketing masterpiece!

I agree. More art than science.
There's science in productivity and the techy stuff.
But most of the marketing success comes from relating to humans. A process can help with productivity, but building relationships is much more of an art than a science.

I am the carpenter type, I do my projects with just an idea in mind, no blueprint.
I am building a headboard without instructions other than a picture from the internet. It is a herringbone design with a raw wood frame.
This is the way I build my content, just read, and learn from my experiences and past training (WA training here).
As you state, you cannot be robotic in your content to gather an audience.
