Your Profile Photo on WA

I decided to write this quick post after 'getting help' from someone in WA community. Well first of all i am really happy and grateful to those people who actually helped me and answered all my questions, fixed my website and etc.

However, on the other note i do understand that you do get points for helping others, responding to questions. But there is nothing more annoying when you describe a problem and someone just replies 'what exactly do you want to do?' in that case i would be really tempted to just reply 'can you please read the above?'. Now this particular scenario never happened to me personally, but it happened to someone else i seen it in forums. And i see that person doing it a lot 'giving advice like that' under a lot of trainings...:) And i was thinking to myself 'why i do not like that person? I have never been in contact with them?' But they are very active in answering questions. And today i got it, it is their profile photo because it portrays 'negative thoughts/approach, disbelief, superiority and ignorance' Check out my post on What your facial expressions mean

I guess i am just getting good in reading people, as it is the niche i am writing about...:)

This makes a lot of sense! I personally would want a profile picture that showed me how I am, which is usually happy.

Yes Denise, more i study body language more 'scary' it gets, meaning it is amazing on how much of information your profile photo reveals about you as a person...:) Sometimes it gives away your insecurities...:)

That makes much sense, Joana.

Glad you liked it Audra.

Hi Joana,
This Post is very helpful. I've been thinking about this topic. It is likely to change my profile photo on WA. I think our profile picture says a lot about our personality. If we want to create a good personal brand, there are many tips on this topic to take into account as: It is advisable to avoid full body images or close-up (e.g. an eye) because the expression is reflected in the face. The bottom of the snapshot should not have elements that distract from the focus, you!
Your site looks good, I'll review it.
Best of luck,
Rosa

Hi Rosa,
Thank you. You are absolutely right. In my previous carrier i interviewed few thousand people, meaning i would read their CV before i meet them. And a photo on their CV said a lot. Some photos were funny, meaning they were not suitable for a CV, especially of people from Eastern European Photos. Now I come from Eastern Europe myself, but i live in the West. So i kind of do understand what an eastern european person was trying to portray with it, and it was pretty normal to do it in Eastern Europe. However, that was not normal in the West. And all the western people i worked with, never would understand it, and were even making fun of it 'behind the doors'. But i guess i went into cultural differences with this comment right now. It is a very broad topic.

That's such an interesting topic. I was glued to all of the pictures in your blog, to see what your thoughts were on each one.

Now I also love this big Chimp's picture. He seems like he might be considering something, deciding about what it means or if he likes it. What are your thoughts on the Chimp's thoughts, Joana?

Regarding your comments above on our profile image, this reminds me of one of my gravatars that's been around a while. There are two just slightly different variations of it. In the first, my eyes engage the audience at the same level; the other one, the camera is slightly lower and thus I'm looking down at the lens. You can immediately imagine how the second one generates a completely different response. Once I was bored and changed the first out for the second, more serious pose and ... yikes, changed it back within a short time. lol.

All the best with your site! Looks good.

Hi Fran,
Thank you :)
Yes the monkey scratching his head might mean few different things, well firstly a person is trying to make a desicion, but not sure; or maybe they are feeling a discomfort, and etc. But like many body language signals we should look for clusters.
Regards profile photos it says a lot about people. And me like you i had and still have some photos on social media that i need to change myself...:) I am a girl, so you know how we like posing. And some selfies have never should been created. However, profile photos are crucial. And there is a reason why professional photographers make hundreds for professional headshots. Because it can really portray who you are, or what message you want to send. But here i am talking about professional networks. Here at WA a lot of people have cartoon characters, kids and other important things to them as their profile photo, and that is absolutely fine.

Well, Fran, I think it's pretty obvious -- He's trying to decide between monthly premium and yearly premium. :=)

Spot on Bob..:)

@BobBarr. Hahaha. Good one. Shall we slip him a hint?

@Joana. yes and yes! Hmm "clusters". Tell me more about that.

1

Fran, 'clusters' is a set of behaviour or body language signals usually observed trying to catch a deception, or if you want to see if someone is being truthful to you. That means when we do want to spot a liar we look for few body language signals, we do not judge them just based on one, meaning if some scratched their nose they might just have 'an itchy nose'. But if they do touch their earlobe afterwards, and cover their mouth, you should really 'dig deeper', question them more about the subject. If you interested you read more on my blog role 'How to Spot a Liar?' http://bodylanguagepros.com/body-language-how-to-spot-a-liar.
Hope that helps,
Joana

That's interesting. I thought that it must mean "groups of signals", but wasn't sure. Thanks for elaborating, Joana; and for the pointers.

You certainly do have mannerisms that tell people how you are viewing the world. Your online items can also make an impact. Your choices determine how you are viewed and may have lasting repercussions.

Hi Labman,

I am not sure if you took my post the right way. The person i described in the post i never been in direct contact, but by watching trainings and reading the comments you form the opinion about people, and people give you different advice, as you say it 'makes an impact'. However, it is your choice how you take it, and who do you listen to. And there are people whom i 'sort of bookmarked', meaning i read every blog posted by them, and they are brilliant at the knowledge they have and i love following them.
However, there are people who are just 'active and social', and that was one of the CONs described on a review page of WA through which i signed up for WA (that person did a great review by the way).
I linked the experience of watching the actions on WA and their profile photo, because that is exactly what we do in a real life we judge people not just on what they say, but also on their non verbals.
And as this blog post is not really directed to anyone in particular (and that was not my intention of writing, but i probably still need to work on getting a message across better), but also i think it is a great reflection of a virtual world.
What do you think?
