Hello and welcome! I am new to affiliates too. Been doing it for about a month. As I understand the wording the tax form for some of the programs are for your convenience . They are like nudging you saying hey this is not our responsibility you have to do this yourself so don 't blame us. For others it may be that they need the information to make sure that you have a tax id. Some won 't do business with you if you don 't.

Wealthy Affiliate is a great company but this is just a platform for us. The website that you get from WA ( what I assume you will be using) is what you will be using to promote the affiliate. Along with any social networks,blogs, etc that are directly associated with WA. So that would be the slight difference. WA is like cosmetics on a woman 's face. It is to enhance the look but in reality she is who she is without the make up. So it is really your site that is the platform.

Personally, I think it is much better to become an affiliate of a company. Most companies don't even offer affiliate networking programs. If by affiliate network you mean that you signed up to be an independent business owner of that company, in which the term multi level marketing comes into play, which I tend to stay away from. For now at least.
An example of a new affiliate partnership that I just got approved for is bodybuilding.com, which is awesome because now I can rep their products, give people incentives promos and discounts, and it fits in perfectly with my supplement site!
But everyone does business differently, so ultimately it's up to you. I would just rather position myself to be a network of my own, in which I'm an affiliate of many companies, rather than under one companies affiliate network.

The maind difference between an affiliate for an website and a affiliate netork is that with a website you are only ableto promotethe website/products on that website. In a affiliate network you are able to sell products from lots of different websites that are signed up with the network.
