Happy 240th Birthday to any WA Marines!
Happy 240th Birthday, to the U.S. Marine Corps! Thank you for all that you do and have done.
I'm not a Marine, just a really proud Marine wife.
I love when my husband tells me stories about his experience in the Corps. :) Last night we pulled out one of his Marine Corps albums and he told me story after story. I'm so proud of him. Much love today to ALL Marines. Be safe.
Any Marine will be able to tell you the story below with no effort, but I'm sharing it for anyone who doesn't know how the Marine Corps started. It's quite a story and the Marine Corps takes tradition very seriously so the old and the young Marines get birthday cake first today!
The U.S. Marine Corps celebrates its birthday on November 10, 1775, the day the Second Continental Congress passed the Continental Marine Act of 1775, ordering, “That two battalions of Marines be raised...” The Continental Marines disbanded in 1783 and was formally reestablished in 1798. The first Marines enlisted at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, which is considered the birthplace of the Marine Corps.
During the annual birthday celebration, Order No. 47 is read, which says, in part, “it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.” The commanding officer cuts the birthday cake, and the first piece is given to the oldest Marine present, who passes it to the youngest Marine present.

Hi Carl!
Thank you for such a nice message! I'm sorry you weren't able to get into the USMC. :(
I'm not a Marine myself; I'm just a proud wife. :)
I wish all the Marines who will be overseas over the holidays well and a happy, safe new year as well.
Cute holiday picture, Carl. :)
Hi Jess, Happy birthday and thank you to your husband and to yourself. The spouse sacrifices also. I was in the Army for 13 years. I wish that the Army kept traditions the way that the Corps does. Dave.
Hi Dave!
Thanks for your kind comment! I can take no credit because we weren't married when he was in. We're both old people now. Haha. I can still be proud of him though, right? :)
And thank you very much for your service as well! Wow, 13 years! What was your job in the Army?
Yeah, the Marine Corps really doesn't mess around when it comes to their traditions. :)
Thanks again,
Jess

Hi. I went looking for some fellow Marines, but seem to be doing a better job of finding their wives. :) Even so I'm happy to see all the support for the Corps here on the WA.
